Overview

ServiceM8 is field-service software for contractors who need to coordinate jobs, staff and customer payments. Its strongest fit is a team that wants unlimited users on paid plans and field tools such as offline access and route optimization; the job quotas make the plan choice important as work grows.

Made by a Darwin-based company, it supports Android, iOS and macOS, with a separate desktop app for Mac or PC. ServiceM8 says contractors worldwide use it to manage more than $50 billion in jobs.

Key features

ServiceM8 links job coordination with team oversight: managers can see staff locations and job progress, while messaging, activity feeds and timesheets help keep teams aligned. Route optimization and recurring jobs support businesses scheduling repeat visits or coordinating field work. Offline mode is useful when staff cannot rely on a connection, though the facts do not establish which functions remain available offline.

A customer portal, invoicing and card payments on site or online cover customer-facing work; Tap to Pay on iPhone adds a way to take payment on that device. Connections to Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB can suit businesses already using those accounting systems. Mailchimp, Deputy, n8n, Zapier, add-ons and a REST API extend the integration options.

Two-step authentication and a 90-day account activity log provide account safeguards. Paid plans include 24/7 chat and email support; help videos and partners are also available.

Pricing

ServiceM8 offers a free plan and a 14-day trial. Paid plans run from $29 to $349 per month; prices are in AUD and include GST. The homepage says there are no hidden fees and no contracts. Paid plans include unlimited users, so the key step-up between tiers is monthly job capacity and SMS allowance.

Plan	Price	Monthly limits	Best fit
Free	0.00 USD per free	1 user, 30 jobs, 10c per SMS	A solo contractor with light monthly volume
Starter	29.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 50 jobs, 100+ SMS	A small team whose workload stays within 50 jobs
Growing	79.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 150 jobs, 300+ SMS	A team needing more monthly capacity
Premium	149.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 500 jobs, 1000+ SMS	A higher-volume operation
Premium Plus	349.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 1500+ jobs, 3000+ SMS	A business handling the largest stated job volume

The free plan is a genuine entry point, but one user and 30 jobs per month constrain it to solo, lower-volume use. Starter removes the seat ceiling but still caps jobs at 50; higher tiers raise that ceiling, so growing businesses should compare their expected volume with each quota. Prices in the plan entries are shown in USD, while ServiceM8's pricing note says prices are in AUD and include GST.

Platforms

Android and iOS apps cover both major mobile platforms, and macOS is supported. The separate ServiceM8 Desktop app runs on Mac or PC. This is a broad device mix for a contractor coordinating office and field work.

Who it's for

ServiceM8 suits contractors who manage recurring jobs, dispatch field staff and want customer access, invoicing and payment options in one service. Unlimited users on paid plans can suit teams that need to add staff without moving to a seat-based tier, while the job caps still matter for busy operations. A solo contractor can start free, but businesses needing more than 30 monthly jobs or multiple users will need a paid plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: Paid tiers have unlimited users, avoiding a user cap as teams expand.
Pro: Offline mode, route optimization and staff-location visibility address practical field coordination needs.
Pro: Customer portal, invoicing and several card-payment methods support work from job to payment.
Con: The free plan limits users to one and jobs to 30 per month, making it a narrow option for larger workloads.
Con: Paid plans still impose job quotas, so a growing contractor may need to move up tiers as volume rises.

Alternatives

For a broader category comparison, browse Field Service Management Software. Contractors in a particular trade can also compare Electrical Contractor Software, Appliance Repair Software, HVAC Software or Plumbing Software; teams focused on dispatch can browse Dispatch Management Software.

Choose ServicePower if you want a freemium web option with workforce scheduling, mobile access, customer self-service, work orders, analytics and Vision AI. ReachOut Suite is another freemium option, with Android, iOS and web support and a free tier described as covering 25 jobs with limited features. Spoors offers Android, iOS and web support, a free tier of 1,000 tasks per month and a Basic plan at 12.00 USD per month.

ServiceMax is a paid web alternative. Zuper and Zinier are paid options for web, iOS and Android. IFS Cloud Field Service Management is another paid alternative. Consider simPRO if its base plan's three data feeds or add-ons such as GPS fleet tracking, maintenance planning, SMS and VoIP fit your needs.

Verdict

ServiceM8 is a strong choice for contractors who want field-team coordination, customer access and payment tools without limiting paid plans by user count. Its free plan gives a solo operator a low-commitment way in, but job quotas shape the cost of scaling. Look elsewhere if those monthly caps do not fit your workload or if a web-only alternative better suits your platform needs.
