Overview

Learners choose a sales stage and difficulty, then practise with an AI buyer by voice or text. Hints offer support; Blind Mode removes them. A five-point competency score and coaching cues follow each session, giving managers and learners a concrete basis for discussing performance.

Foundational practice is positioned for onboarding and product launches, while performance mode targets senior representatives preparing for high-stakes enterprise deals. Elite simulations can verify mastery and grant Field-Ready status. Tiered difficulty, leaderboards and readiness intelligence extend practice into team-level readiness tracking. Teams can adapt feedback and scoring to their sales framework, messaging and KPIs, and UMU says pre-built templates and zero-script configuration can get scenarios running in days.

Key features

Guided and unassisted simulations: Hints suit learners building confidence; Blind Mode provides a more demanding practice format. Voice and text options let teams vary how buyers are simulated.
Scoring and coaching: The session score and cues make practice more actionable than a roleplay alone. Custom measures can align with a team’s own framework, though the value depends on how well those expectations are defined.
Readiness and certification: Elite-level simulations, Field-Ready status and automated readiness intelligence give teams ways to assess mastery alongside practice.
Sales enablement tools: Sales playbooks, readiness assessments, content guidance, engagement analytics, coaching and feedback complement the AI roleplay focus.
Security and service: UMU states compliance with ISO/IEC 27001, 27017, 27018, 27701 and 42001, SOC 3, GDPR and HIPAA, and describes encryption, HTTPS, network protections, vulnerability scanning and audited operations. Enterprise Edition or higher carries a 99.9% uptime commitment. Business-day email support typically responds within one to two business days.

Pricing

UMU’s pricing spans a capped free entry point, individually priced subscriptions and a custom enterprise arrangement. The plans shown cover UMU’s broader learning platform, so buyers should confirm which capabilities and options meet their roleplay needs.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Basic	0.00 JPY per free	Free, with feature limits; video and file uploads are generally unavailable. It suits a first look or limited use, but the upload restrictions constrain teams relying on training materials.
Professional	8325.00 JPY per year; annual billing only, ¥99,900 per year including tax	Unlimited video uploads, class creation, learner data access, a meeting system and HD video. This is the paid option for teams needing those learning and conferencing functions without the organization-management features of Business.
Business	36004000.00 JPY per month; annual billing requires 10 or more accounts, or monthly billing from one month	Learning management, organization management and portal configuration, with additional options charged separately. Its management tools suit larger or more structured deployments; the 10-account minimum applies to annual billing.
Enterprise	Custom pricing; account and initial deployment fees depend on user IDs and months of use; 12-month minimum contract	Dedicated customer success and enhanced security. This is aimed at teams with enterprise requirements and a willingness to commit for at least a year.

A Zoom-powered paid web-conferencing system is also offered with usage-based additional charges. Teams should account for those charges and any separately priced options when comparing plans.

Platforms

UMU is available on web, iOS and Android, so learners can access it through a browser or official mobile apps. The Japanese FAQ also describes a paid web-conferencing feature powered by Zoom.

Who it's for

UMU fits sales organizations that need repeatable buyer-conversation practice for both new hires and experienced representatives, especially when managers want scores and coaching tied to a defined sales framework. Its customization and enterprise controls may suit larger teams; the annual account threshold on Business and 12-month Enterprise term make those plans less suited to small teams seeking a short commitment.

It is a weaker fit for buyers seeking a simple, low-cost roleplay tool without broader learning management or a need to upload video and files on the free plan. UMU reports 1,000+ paid customers, 100M+ active users and presence in 208+ countries and regions.

Pros and cons

Pros: Roleplays span sales stages and difficulty levels, with hints, Blind Mode and voice or text practice to vary challenge.
Pros: Session scores, coaching cues and customizable KPIs connect practice to a team’s performance expectations.
Pros: Foundational and performance modes cover onboarding through enterprise deal preparation, while certification and readiness tools add assessment.
Cons: The free plan restricts features and generally disallows video and file uploads, limiting its usefulness for content-heavy training.
Cons: Business annual billing requires at least 10 accounts, Enterprise requires a 12-month contract, and add-ons can cost extra.
Cons: Business-day email support has a typical one-to-two-business-day response turnaround, which may not suit teams needing faster routine support.

Alternatives

Hyperbound is worth considering for buyers who want a freemium web option. Choose Allego if its per-user, annually prepaid custom contract model and mobile apps better match your purchasing needs; its typical contract is three years, with two- and one-year options.

Highspot may suit teams prioritizing governed content, AI-powered search, content personalization, Sales Plays, Digital Sales Rooms and CRM integration. Mindtickle offers training, virtual roleplays, coaching and analytics in its Readiness plan, but that plan does not include two-way AI Role Play.

Spekit is another paid option. Altify may be preferable for buyers seeking quote-based annual subscription pricing tied to selected solutions and user count. Apparound and Mindmatrix Bridge are also paid alternatives.

Verdict

Choose UMU if your sales team needs structured AI buyer practice, coaching cues and readiness assessment across experience levels, with scoring adaptable to its own framework. Look elsewhere if strict cost predictability, unrestricted free-plan content uploads or short enterprise commitments matter more than that combination of practice and enablement tools.
