Overview

Quadratic is a spreadsheet for people who need formulas, code, AI analysis, and connected data in one workspace. It suits data-minded individuals and teams who want to inspect and revise generated work; its breadth is appealing, though the free tier is limited and paid plans are billed annually.

Users can ask questions in plain English and have AI create formulas, code, or charts. The results remain in cells to inspect and edit, which makes Quadratic a better fit for analysis that needs review than a tool that delivers only a finished answer. It combines familiar spreadsheet work with Python, SQL, and JavaScript, and connects to live data sources.

Quadratic says a sheet can hold 100 million rows and supports multi-GB CSV and Parquet imports. It also imports Excel/XLSX, PDF, and Google Sheets, and exports to Excel/XLSX, CSV, Quadratic/Grid, PNG, and PDF. The connections directory includes PostgreSQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, QuickBooks, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Plaid, and Salesforce.

Key features

AI-assisted analysis: Plain-English questions can produce formulas, code, and charts. Because the output stays editable in cells, users can review and refine it rather than treating an answer as final.
Large-data capacity: Support for 100 million rows in one sheet and multi-GB CSV and Parquet imports makes Quadratic relevant to large datasets. That capacity is most useful to people who need to combine spreadsheet work with code or SQL, rather than simply organize a small table.
Data connections and file exchange: SQL connections and integrations spanning databases, business services, and analytics tools can bring external data into the workflow. Broad import and export formats also make it easier to move work between Quadratic and other spreadsheets or documents.
AI tool access: The MCP server lets compatible AI tools read sheets, write cells and charts, and run Python, SQL, and formulas. The API can trigger AI runs and read or write cells, making Quadratic usable as part of a wider automated workflow.
Local processing and security: Quadratic says data is stored and calculations run on the user's computer by default. Its cloud service is SOC 2 and HIPAA compliant; teams considering deployment should distinguish that cloud assurance from the self-hosting option, which is reserved for higher plans.

Pricing

Quadratic uses a freemium model. Personal has no published price and is aimed at individuals, but its AI usage, sharing, files, connections, and support are limited. It is the low-commitment way to start, though those caps may become restrictive once work depends on regular AI analysis or shared data.

Pro costs 18.00 USD per month, billed annually. It includes $20 in AI credits per month, additional privacy controls, and unlimited sharing, files, and connections. It is the clearest fit for shared-workspace users who need fewer collaboration and connection constraints; the annual billing term is the trade-off.

Business costs 36.00 USD per month, billed annually, and includes $40 in AI credits per month, the ability to purchase more credits on-demand, and everything in Pro. That makes it more appropriate for teams with heavier AI use than Pro's monthly allowance supports, but the higher recurring price is hard to justify for occasional analysis.

Enterprise has custom pricing, custom AI usage, Single Sign-On, a self-hosting option, and dedicated support. It fits companies that need those controls or support arrangements rather than individuals seeking a larger standard plan. No free trial is offered.

Platforms

Quadratic lists Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, API, and self-hosted availability. Standalone desktop apps are available for macOS and Windows, and the mobile interface is designed for phones. Self-hosting is offered on Business and Enterprise, with AWS and Docker supported.

Who it's for

Quadratic is a strong choice for analysts and teams that want spreadsheet accessibility alongside code, SQL connections, AI-generated work they can edit, and room for large datasets. Personal can suit an individual with modest needs, while Pro targets shared-workspace users and Business teams that need more AI capacity. It is a weaker fit for someone who only needs a basic spreadsheet or cannot accept annual billing for paid plans.

Pros and cons

Pro: AI output is editable in cells, so users can inspect formulas, code, and charts instead of relying on opaque results.
Pro: Large-sheet capacity, multi-GB imports, SQL, and a wide range of connections support more demanding data work than a simple workbook workflow.
Pro: MCP and API access extend the spreadsheet into compatible AI tools and automated workflows.
Con: Personal limits AI usage, sharing, files, connections, and support, so growing individual projects may need a paid plan.
Con: Pro and Business prices are tied to annual billing, and Business costs twice Pro's monthly price.
Con: Self-hosting is confined to Business and Enterprise, so it is not an option for users on the lower tiers.

Alternatives

Julius AI is another freemium option, with a free plan offering daily credits and a Google Drive connector; choose it if those entry-level terms and its Android, iOS, or web availability better suit your workflow.
Byaan offers a free, MIT-licensed macOS app for individuals and a self-hosted team version; choose it if those licensing and deployment options matter more than Quadratic's spreadsheet-and-code approach.
Calliope AI offers a BYOC workbench that runs in the customer's AWS account and VPC, with a 10-seat minimum; consider it when that deployment model and team scale are the priority.
Akkio offers an enterprise AI analytics platform with custom pricing; it may suit buyers seeking that kind of enterprise platform rather than a spreadsheet-centered workspace.
ExcelGPT has a free plan with up to 90 credits per month via daily check-in and a $19.90 USD monthly Pro plan with 300 credits; choose it if a credit-based plan is a better match.
PerSight offers a free plan with 15 questions per month, one database connection, and one device, or a Pro plan at 390.00 EUR per year; it may be worth comparing if those stated limits or its macOS and Windows availability fit.
Energent.ai has a free plan with one concurrent task, 10 monthly uploads, and five monthly downloads; consider it if those file-workflow limits suit your needs.
Kiln is another freemium data-analysis option for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Verdict

Choose Quadratic if you want a spreadsheet that brings code, SQL, AI analysis, and connected data together while keeping generated work open to inspection and editing. Its capacity and integrations give it a clear role in substantial data workflows. Look elsewhere if your needs are basic, if Personal's limits are too tight, or if annual billing and the step up to Business do not suit your budget.
