Overview

RemNote suits students and other learners who want to turn their own notes and source materials into a structured study routine. Its combination of annotation, AI-generated study material, and scheduled review is compelling; the trade-off is that frequent uploads and heavier AI use quickly run into the Free plan’s limits.

It is less suited to someone who only wants a simple place to take notes, or who needs a generous free allowance for large documents and AI generation.

Key features

Build and review study material

RemNote can generate flashcards, quizzes, and summaries from notes, PDFs, and other sources. Cards support question-and-answer, fill-in-the-blank, list, cluster, and image-occlusion formats. Spaced repetition brings cards back at intervals intended to support long-term retention; adaptive review and practice quizzes add other ways to revisit material. This range serves learners building an ongoing study system, but may be more machinery than occasional note-takers need.

Annotate source documents

PDFs and slides can be marked up with highlights, drawings, and shapes, and source citations are supported. That makes RemNote a practical fit for studying from course readings alongside notes and flashcards. The free allowance of three annotated PDFs is a meaningful constraint for students working through a larger reading list.

Work across devices

Desktop apps and mobile apps for iOS and Android are supported. Notes and flashcards remain available offline and sync when connectivity returns, which is useful for study away from a reliable connection. Shared flashcards and group licenses for classrooms and educational institutions also make it relevant beyond individual use.

Pricing

RemNote has a free tier and two monthly subscriptions, plus a one-time Life-Long Learner option. A 25% education discount applies to Pro. Full refunds are available within 30 days of a subscription or license purchase.

Plan	Price and terms	What it suits
Free	0.00 USD per free. Unlimited notes and flashcards, unlimited synced devices, 3 annotated PDFs, 5 image occlusion cards, 1 handwritten document, 20 uploads per day, files up to 8MB, and 250 AI credits per month. Free users can try each Pro feature a few times.	A useful starting point for learners with modest document and AI needs. The annotation, file-size, and AI allowances can be limiting for regular coursework.
Pro	8.00 USD per month, billed monthly. 600 files per day, files up to 300MB, 1,000 AI credits per month, and 50 monthly runs for listed AI features.	For learners who need larger uploads and more regular AI use, but do not need the higher AI allowance of Pro with AI.
Pro with AI	18.00 USD per month, billed monthly. 600 files per day, files up to 300MB, 20,000 AI credits per month, and nearly unlimited runs for listed AI features.	For users who expect to rely heavily on AI generation and want substantially more monthly credits.
Life-Long Learner	Custom pricing. One-time purchase with indefinite access to most Pro features.	For buyers who prefer a one-time purchase and indefinite access to most Pro features; it does not promise access to every Pro feature.

The free tier preserves unlimited notes and flashcards, but its file and annotation caps restrict source-heavy study. Pro raises upload size from 8MB to 300MB and the daily allowance from 20 to 600 files. Pro with AI chiefly makes sense when the 1,000 monthly credits and 50 AI runs on Pro are not enough.

Platforms

RemNote offers desktop apps and mobile apps for iOS and Android. Offline access applies to notes and flashcards, which sync again when connectivity returns.

Who it's for

RemNote is a strong fit for students and self-directed learners who work from readings or other source files and want annotation, generated study aids, and spaced repetition together. Its offline access and mobile apps support study across locations, while shared flashcards and group licenses extend its use to classrooms and educational institutions. It is a weaker fit for people who want only basic notes or need consistently generous uploads and AI without paying.

Pros and cons

Pros: Generates summaries, quizzes, and several kinds of flashcards from source material, giving learners multiple ways to turn reading into review.
Pros: Offline notes and flashcards, plus desktop and iOS and Android apps, support study across devices and without a connection.
Pros: Unlimited notes and flashcards on Free make it possible to build a substantial study collection without subscribing.
Cons: Free annotation stops at three PDFs, and free uploads are limited to 20 files per day and 8MB per file, which can obstruct document-heavy study.
Cons: The Free plan’s 250 AI credits per month and Pro’s 1,000 credits and 50 monthly AI runs may be insufficient for frequent generation; the larger allowance requires Pro with AI at 18.00 USD per month.
Cons: Life-Long Learner covers most Pro features, not all of them, and has custom pricing.

Verdict

Choose RemNote if you want a connected study workspace that turns your own material into annotated, AI-assisted flashcards and quizzes, then brings them back for review. The free plan is a credible entry point for modest use, but document-heavy study or sustained AI generation makes its limits a real consideration. Look elsewhere if you need a simpler note-taking app or want to avoid those paid-plan constraints.
