Overview

SmartEvals is web-based evaluation software for colleges and universities managing course feedback, surveys, and educational assessments. It is best suited to campus teams that need connected collection and institution-wide analysis. Its reporting and integration range is a strong fit for that work; custom pricing and a narrowly described free plan make it less straightforward for other buyers.

Key features

Campus workflows and participation

SmartEvals supports summative and formative course evaluations, general-purpose surveys, and educational assessments. ERP or SIS synchronization, connections to homegrown databases, preloaded question banks, and automated report distribution can link collection to existing campus processes and reduce repeated administrative work. It also lists Blackboard Learn and Ultra, Canvas, Moodle, Brightspace, and other LMSs, with LTI tools for integration.

Email, text, and voice reminders, mobile access, and real-time response-rate reporting give administrators several ways to encourage and monitor participation. Institutions can customize survey forms and reminders, and set role-based permissions. These controls are useful for programs spanning departments or audiences, though they do not replace decisions about survey design and access policies.

Analysis, accessibility, and data handling

Reporting covers institutional and nationwide benchmarking, aggregate comparisons, longitudinal trends, text analytics, and demographic analysis. That depth can help campuses examine results across groups and over time, rather than treating each course survey as an isolated exercise. Anonymous feedback, instructor evaluations, benchmarking, advanced reporting, and data export are also supported.

The maker says SmartEvals is WCAG and ADA compliant and compatible with mobile devices. It describes the hosted application as using US-based primary and failover data facilities meeting SSAE 16 SOC 2 security standards. It also says institutions retain ownership and control of their data and that confidential data is not shared or retransmitted to outside organizations. In-house customer support is listed, alongside free instructor training programs and online faculty training.

Pricing

SmartEvals is a paid product with pricing on request. That suits institutions seeking a campus-oriented system but means they should obtain a quote before comparing total cost with their evaluation program and requirements.

SmartEvals Lite costs 0.00 USD per contact. It is described as an on-the-go version for schools currently using paper, and includes anonymous feedback, instructor evaluations, benchmarking, advanced reporting, and data export. The plan could be a practical starting point for paper-based schools, but its stated audience is specific; institutions should confirm whether it covers their use case before relying on it as a substitute for a broader paid deployment.

Platforms

SmartEvals is available on the web and supports mobile access. Mobile compatibility makes it usable beyond desktop workflows, while the product remains centered on institutional evaluation rather than a range of separately named platform apps.

Who it's for

SmartEvals is aimed at colleges and universities coordinating evaluations across a campus, especially those that need LMS and administrative data connections, participation tracking, and broad reporting. It is less compelling for individuals or buyers seeking a general-purpose survey service: its stated purpose and feature set are oriented toward institutional higher education, and its paid pricing requires a request.

Pros and cons

Pros: Supports several evaluation types and LMS connections, plus ERP, SIS, and homegrown-database synchronization, making it relevant to varied campus systems.
Pros: Combines reminders and live response-rate reporting with benchmarking, longitudinal analysis, text analytics, and demographic reporting.
Pros: SmartEvals Lite is free at 0.00 USD per contact for its stated paper-using school audience and includes advanced reporting and export.
Cons: The main product has custom pricing, so buyers need a quote to judge cost against their needs.
Cons: Lite is framed for schools currently using paper and as an on-the-go version, which may not fit institutions seeking a full campus deployment.

Alternatives

Course Evaluation Software is a category page for comparing options in this field.

FrontCore is worth considering when a free plan or trial and participant-based LMS tiers matter: its free LMS Start plan supports up to 30 participants, while LMS Mini costs 42.00 GBP per month for up to 300 participants.

IASystem may suit a campus that wants a one-term pilot license at no cost before considering its Enrollment Category 6 price of 1.59 USD per year. SmartEvals instead provides the described Lite option for paper-using schools.

Qualtrics offers a free individual plan limited to one user, three active surveys, and 500 total responses. It may fit an individual with modest survey needs; SmartEvals is oriented toward institutional evaluation workflows and reporting.

High-Resolution Course Feedback is an alternative with a free course survey plan for creating a survey, course roster, custom questions, and admin list.

Perspective AI Intelligent Intake has a free plan with 100 credits toward AI-powered conversations and a Pro Subscription at 99.00 USD per month. It is an alternative for buyers considering that credit-based conversation model rather than SmartEvals' higher-education evaluation focus.

QuestionPro has a free Essentials plan with one user, 200 responses per survey, and 30 question types; its Advanced plan costs 99.00 USD per month and is billed annually. It may suit buyers comparing those survey quotas and terms with a campus evaluation system.

HelioCampus Course Evaluations & Surveys is another paid course-evaluation and survey option.

IOTA360 Evaluations is another paid option with customized pricing based mostly on annual faculty and student users; custom reports may incur additional charges.

Verdict

SmartEvals is a strong candidate for colleges and universities that need coordinated evaluation workflows, campus integrations, and analysis extending from course-level feedback to institutional and nationwide comparisons. Its main reason to choose it is that combination of participation tools and reporting depth. Look elsewhere if you need transparent pricing or a general-purpose survey tool; for a paper-based school, first confirm that Lite's defined scope matches the intended program.
