Overview

Ouch! by Icons8 is an illustration library and editing service for people adding artwork to digital designs. It suits designers who want to customize assets, use illustrations in several formats, or connect a library to an app or website. The strongest case is its mix of editable artwork, animation exports and integrations; the 25-download monthly allowance on the Illustrations plan makes usage volume an important buying consideration.

Key features

Artwork and editing

The library spans illustrations, clipart, vector graphics, 3D illustrations and animated illustrations. Static assets are available as PNG or SVG, and Mega Creator lets users recolor, change and rearrange illustrations assembled from separate pieces. That gives a designer practical room to adapt an asset before export, rather than relying on it unchanged. Icons8 says its styles are designed to remain consistent, a useful quality when several images need to work together in one project.

Animation formats include Lottie JSON, Rive, After Effects project, GIF and MOV. The Illustrations plan includes JSON, After Effects project and GIF for animations, SVG and large PNG for vectors, and FBX with textures. This is a broad export mix, but buyers should check that the specific format they need is part of their chosen plan.

Integrations and access

Plugins are available for Figma, Google Docs, Webflow, Photoshop, Illustrator, Miro and Lucid. An API can bring illustrations into an app or website, and Icons8 says its engineers can help with integration. That combination suits teams fitting artwork into an existing product or design workflow, though each paid account is for one user and teams are asked to contact Icons8.

Icons8 also lists Pichon and Lunacy desktop apps for Mac and Windows, Lunacy for Linux, and Face Swapper and GenYOU mobile apps for iOS and Android. The product is therefore accessible across many platforms, although those apps serve different parts of the wider Icons8 offering.

Pricing

Ouch! uses a freemium model with a free plan and a 7-day trial. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and provides free illustrations, but free use requires attribution and is limited to bitmap format. Icons8 says its products are also available at no cost for open-source projects. This is a sensible starting point for low-volume work that can accept attribution and bitmap assets, but not for users who need SVG or attribution-free use.

The Illustrations plan has custom pricing, billed monthly or yearly with a 20% saving on yearly billing. It includes 25 downloads per month; each additional illustration costs $0.80, with extra downloads billed on the next bill. It also includes SVG and large PNG for vectors, JSON, After Effects project and GIF for animations, FBX with textures, desktop app and plugins, and use without attribution. Its one-user account limit makes it a fit for an individual designer, while teams need to contact Icons8.

AI and graphics also has custom pricing, billed monthly or yearly with a 20% saving on yearly billing. It includes everything in Illustrations, 100k AI credits (about 500 generated illustrations), AI generators and image editing, 100 icons and MCP access, 50 photos, and Mega Creator AI and hand-drawn graphics. It is the step up for users who need the added AI and graphics resources, but the included illustration allowance remains defined by the Illustrations plan.

Ultimate has custom pricing, billed monthly or yearly with a 20% saving on yearly billing. It includes everything in AI and graphics, 1M AI credits (about 5,000 generated illustrations), and unlimited graphics. This is the broadest option for users with substantial graphics needs; those who only need occasional illustrations may not need its expanded credits and unlimited graphics.

Paid plans include lifetime use without attribution, and unused downloads and AI credits roll over. These terms soften the effect of unused monthly allowances, but do not remove the Illustrations plan's per-download charge after 25 downloads.

Platforms

Ouch! is listed for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows, as well as API and extension access. Plugins for Figma, Google Docs, Webflow, Photoshop, Illustrator, Miro and Lucid extend its reach into common design and document workflows.

Who it's for

Ouch! is best suited to individual designers who want editable illustrations, multiple export formats and plugins, or developers who need an illustration API. It is less suitable for a team seeking a self-serve multi-user account, or for a high-volume buyer who wants predictable downloads without per-illustration charges.

Pros and cons

Pros: Mega Creator can reshape illustrations assembled from separate pieces, giving designers more control before export.
Pros: Animation formats include Lottie JSON, Rive, After Effects project, GIF and MOV, supporting different animation workflows.
Pros: Plugins, API access and broad platform coverage create several ways to bring artwork into existing workflows.
Cons: Free use requires attribution and bitmap format, so it does not suit projects that need attribution-free SVGs.
Cons: The Illustrations plan charges $0.80 per illustration beyond 25 monthly downloads, which can make frequent use more expensive.
Cons: Each paid account is for one user, and teams must contact Icons8 rather than use a stated team-seat allowance.

Alternatives

Stock Illustration Websites and Stock Vector Libraries are category directories for comparing other options. Choose Pixabay when a free media library is the priority: its full-resolution photo and video downloads require sign-up. Choose Bigstock if a paid plan with a stated daily and monthly image allowance better suits the work; its listed plans begin at 79.00 USD per month for 5 images a day and 150 a month. Storyblocks is an alternative for users seeking unlimited downloads of 8K, 4K and HD footage, video templates and other media on its Essentials plan, listed at 21.00 USD per month billed annually. Clipart.com may suit a buyer seeking clipart and a single-user license, with its listed one-week license at 12.95 USD per once and auto-renewal until canceled. Depositphotos is an alternative with monthly or annual unlimited-download plan options. DrawKit offers unlimited free content on its Basic plan without requiring an account, so it may suit those who value that access model over Ouch!'s editing and integration mix. Dreamstime is another freemium option for buyers considering image-pack plans. GetIllustrations may suit developers who want a free API tier, with 1,500 calls per month and premium assets shown as watermarked previews.

Verdict

Choose Ouch! if you are an individual designer or developer who values customizable illustrations, animation formats and integration options. Its most compelling advantage is the flexibility to adapt and export artwork across workflows. Look elsewhere if you need a free attribution-free vector workflow, predictable high-volume downloads, or a self-serve team plan.
