Overview

SnapBallot supports board elections, bylaw amendments, contract ratifications, special votes, referendums and run-offs. Administrators can set minimum and maximum voting requirements for each office or ballot item, and weight votes by ownership, membership class, proxy assignment or other organizational rules. Those controls matter for groups whose voting rules are more involved than a simple one-member, one-vote ballot; they may be unnecessary overhead for an uncomplicated poll.

Administrators can track who has voted without seeing how individual voters voted. The combination supports participation monitoring while preserving the secrecy of selections from administrators. SnapBallot also provides voter logs and audit trails. Its maker describes end-to-end encryption and single-use magic-link authentication, says the platform runs on Microsoft Azure, and says its provider, Survey & Ballot Systems, is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant.

Key features

Participation and reporting

Real-time reports include daily participation, voter logs and email recaps. Each election includes one invitation email and two reminder emails; further reminders cost extra. That is a defined outreach allowance for a typical voting cycle, but groups that need more frequent follow-up should account for the additional charge.

Ballot access and paper voting

The maker says voters can use phones, tablets or desktops, and SnapBallot is offered on Android, iOS and the web. Voters who need paper ballots or do not have email must be handled outside the online process, with paper results combined with SnapBallot totals afterward. That split process may be workable for mixed-access groups, but it adds a separate step rather than bringing every vote into one workflow.

The contact team responds to inquiries within one business day and accepts technical-support inquiries and demo-scheduling requests. This gives organizations a stated route to assistance when setting up or managing a vote.

Pricing

SnapBallot charges per election, with no setup fees in the stated voter plans. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and covers up to 15 voters with 3 voter emails. It is a narrow way to run a small election, but the 15-voter ceiling rules it out for many member organizations.

The 16–250 voters plan costs 49.00 USD per once, the 251–750 voters plan costs 99.00 USD per once, and the 751–1,500 voters plan costs 149.00 USD per once. Larger elections cost 269.00 USD per once for 1,501–3,000 voters and 449.00 USD per once for 3,001–7,500 voters. Each paid tier includes 3 voter emails and no setup fees. Since charges recur per election, groups holding several votes should consider the combined cost, not just the fee for a single ballot.

For more than 7,500 voters, the Custom plan has custom pricing; paper ballots or fully managed services are available through that plan. The published voter-tier prices are practical for groups that can estimate election size, while organizations needing a larger electorate or those services must move to a custom arrangement. The stated voter limit is 250 voters, so groups should confirm the applicable limit for their intended plan before choosing a tier.

Platforms

SnapBallot is available on Android, iOS and the web. The maker says it works on phones, tablets and desktops, giving voters several ways to access a ballot.

Who it's for

SnapBallot targets HOAs, unions, associations, food co-ops, clubs, sports organizations, churches and other member-driven groups. It is a stronger fit when administrators need defined ballot rules, anonymous selections and participation reports. Groups with voters who lack email, depend on paper ballots, or need more than the stated voter limit should weigh the separate handling and plan constraints before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros

Configurable ballot requirements and weighted voting accommodate organizational rules that a basic poll may not handle.
Administrators can monitor participation without seeing individual selections, with voter logs and audit trails for oversight.
Per-election prices are given across voter bands, and the stated plans have no setup fees.
Real-time participation reports and three included voter emails provide a defined reporting and outreach baseline.

Cons

The free plan stops at 15 voters, limiting its usefulness beyond very small elections.
Each election includes only one invitation and two reminders; additional reminders cost extra.
Paper and no-email voters require a separate process, with their results combined afterward.
Per-election fees can add up for organizations that run frequent votes.

Alternatives

Compare online voting software if you want to consider a wider range of options. AssociationVoting is another freemium option with a free trial; its free election tier covers 1–25 eligible voters, while the next stated tier is 99.00 USD per election for 26–125 eligible voters. ElectionBuddy is worth comparing if its separate MeetingVote and ElectionVote free options better match the kind of vote you are running.

Election Runner may suit a smaller election: it is free for up to 20 voters and charges 19.00 USD per election for up to 100 voters. POLYAS offers a free Standard online-voting tier for up to 50 voters, with features and service excluded; compare it if that limited free tier fits your needs. Simply Voting has a free option for elections with 10 electors or less, while its self-administered elections use election-sized fees.

VoteAlly offers a free plan for 50 eligible voters per session, with two active sessions and one admin seat, making its stated free allowance relevant for groups prioritizing a larger free session. Assembley is a web-only alternative with a free Starter plan for up to 25 voters and unlimited assemblies; its Basic plan costs 149.00 EUR per year. CharterVote is another web-based freemium option with a free Starter plan for up to 25 eligible voters per election.

Verdict

Choose SnapBallot if your member organization needs configurable election rules, anonymous selections and live participation oversight, and can budget per election. Its strongest case is the combination of ballot controls and reporting; its clearest drawback is the constrained included outreach and separate paper-voting workflow. Look elsewhere if your electorate exceeds the stated limit, relies heavily on paper or no-email voting, or needs a broader included reminder allowance.
