Overview

Shufti brings document forensics, facial liveness, NFC chip verification, and real-time AML screening into configurable verification workflows. It also supports business verification and transaction monitoring, making it relevant to organizations whose checks extend beyond identity documents. The service is headquartered in London, United Kingdom.

Document verification covers more than 240 regions and 150 languages, with decisions returned within 15 seconds. Shufti says its iBeta Level 3 certified liveness detection is designed to detect deepfake selfies, printed photos, and injection attacks. That combination is useful for services onboarding customers across borders, though the per-verification model makes usage volume an important cost consideration.

Key features

Configurable verification: Teams can combine document, biometric, NFC, and AML checks through an API or assemble journeys in Journey Builder, a drag-and-drop workflow builder. This gives compliance teams flexibility to tailor the sequence and scope of checks.
Broad document reach: Support for more than 240 regions and 150 languages can help businesses serve customers across markets. Decisions within 15 seconds are a stated turnaround, but do not remove the need to assess whether each workflow fits a business’s compliance requirements.
Biometric liveness: iBeta Level 3 certified detection is intended to identify deepfake selfies, printed photos, and injection attacks, strengthening the case for Shufti where selfie-based checks matter.
Developer integrations: A REST API supports identity, business, and transaction verification or monitoring in web and mobile applications. Webhooks and native SDKs for iOS, Android, and web provide additional integration routes; an AWS Marketplace integration is also documented.
Security and support: Shufti lists PCI DSS, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR-related certifications, and Cyber Essentials among its audits and certifications, and advertises 24/7/365 support.

Pricing

Shufti uses per-verification billing. The Free Forever plan costs $0.00 USD per free, billed at $0 per verification, and includes up to 10 verifications each month in the live production environment with no card required. It is useful for a small evaluation or very low-volume use, but the monthly cap is quickly restrictive for a live service with regular onboarding.

Essentials is priced at $1.50 USD per once, billed at $1.5 per verification, starting from and covering up to 20,000 verifications on a pay-as-you-go basis. The lack of a minimum monthly commitment makes it a better fit for teams whose volume varies, though usage still drives the bill. Enterprise has custom pricing based on volume, coverage, and compliance requirements, so it is the appropriate route for organizations needing tailored terms rather than a fixed per-check offer. Free Forever and Essentials have no minimum monthly commitment; a free trial is offered.

Platforms

Shufti supports Android, iOS, web, API, and self-hosted deployment. Native mobile SDKs and web integrations give development teams options for embedding checks in apps, while the API also supports web and mobile application workflows.

Who it's for

Shufti identifies fintech, forex, banking, social networks, gaming, gig economy, crypto, and marketplaces as industries it serves. It is best suited to teams in these sectors that need configurable document, biometric, business, or AML checks across multiple markets and can integrate them into their own applications. Organizations needing only a handful of checks monthly can start on the free tier; higher or variable volumes fit the pay-as-you-go Essentials plan, while bespoke volume, coverage, or compliance terms point toward Enterprise.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad international document coverage across more than 240 regions and 150 languages supports cross-border onboarding.
Pros: Multiple check types in configurable workflows allow teams to combine document, liveness, NFC, AML, business, and transaction capabilities.
Pros: Flexible developer routes include REST APIs, webhooks, native SDKs, and AWS Marketplace deployment.
Cons: Small free allowance of 10 verifications monthly is unlikely to support meaningful production volume.
Cons: Per-verification billing means spend grows with use, so teams with sustained high volume should assess Enterprise terms.
Cons: Essentials has a stated ceiling of up to 20,000 verifications, so organizations beyond that scale need to consider custom Enterprise pricing.

Alternatives

For a different free-tier proposition, Didit offers 500 full KYC verifications each month at no charge, including ID, liveness, face match, device and IP checks, and a workflow builder; it is worth considering when a larger monthly free allowance matters more than Shufti’s stated international document reach and verification mix.

Socure is another option for teams comparing per-evaluation document verification: its DocV plan is $0.80 per evaluation and covers government ID scans and selfies from 195+ countries. Shufti’s listed document reach is broader, while Socure’s stated DocV rate is lower; the choice depends on the specific coverage and checks required.

Consider Entrust Certificate Manager, Alloy Embedded, Footprint, Jumio, Trulioo, or Ondato as alternatives when comparing other identity or certificate-management products.

Verdict

Shufti is a strong fit for internationally oriented teams that need several configurable identity and fraud checks behind developer integrations. Its main advantage is the combination of broad document coverage, liveness, NFC, and AML capabilities; its main drawback is a small free cap and usage-based costs. Choose it when that breadth and workflow control justify per-check billing, and look elsewhere if a generous free production allowance or a different pricing structure is the priority.
