Overview

Obsidian brings application discovery, governance, and runtime security together across AI agents, identities, and integrations. That makes it relevant to teams responsible for risks spanning many connected services, rather than a single application. The company says it serves Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 organizations and began its security-for-SaaS work in 2021; its stated focus is firmly enterprise-oriented.

Organizations can use a library of hundreds of validated connectors, including Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic Claude, Google Workspace, GitHub, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Snowflake. They can also build custom connectors, which are hosted on the Obsidian Platform and re-evaluated after updates. This breadth can help cover varied application estates, though teams should consider the ongoing work of deciding which services and controls they need to manage.

Key features

AI and application governance

AI security capabilities include agent visibility, agent governance, runtime security, and AI security posture management. Misconfiguration checks, permission analysis, automated remediation, and compliance monitoring add practical controls for teams that need to assess and act on risk, not just discover applications.

Detection and response

The Advanced plan includes detection for account takeover and session hijack, insider risk, misuse, sensitive data exposure, and API and token compromise. Obsidian’s AI Assistant is designed to explain rules, triage threats, manage exceptions, and suggest security steps. Together, these capabilities suit security teams seeking both detection coverage and help handling the resulting work; they are not part of the stated Foundations scope.

Trust and availability

Obsidian reports 99.99% historical availability over 12 months, while cross-region high availability is under development. Its trust controls include granular role-based access with audit logging, per-customer storage buckets, and dedicated database schemas. Listed attestations and certifications include SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and IRAP; ISO 42001 is coming soon. Regional hosting is available in AWS US West 2, EU Central 1, and AP Southeast 2, as well as at a data center in Saudi Arabia. These points matter to organizations with governance and regional hosting requirements, but the availability figure is historical rather than a forward guarantee.

Pricing

Obsidian uses a freemium model. Its free trial requires no credit card, but no duration is stated, so buyers cannot plan around a defined evaluation window. Paid plans use custom pricing, making a quote necessary to compare cost with scope.

Plan	Price	What it includes	Best suited to
Free	Price not listed	Up to 1K users; discovery of app sprawl, including unsanctioned AI and shadow SaaS; spear-phishing detection with no manual tuning	Organizations that want a capped starting point for discovery and a specific detection capability
Foundations	Custom pricing	Discovery and governance features	Teams prioritizing application visibility and governance over the Advanced plan’s detection and response scope
Advanced	Custom pricing	Detection, proactive defense, and incident response features	Security teams needing broader threat detection and response coverage

The Free plan’s 1K-user ceiling is the clearest constraint; teams above it need to consider a paid plan. Foundations gives up the stated Advanced detection and incident-response features, while Advanced is the more appropriate choice when those capabilities are central. No paid seat limits or contract terms are stated.

Platforms

Obsidian is available on the web. The platform’s integrations cover numerous third-party services, but the listed platform availability is web.

Who it's for

Obsidian is a strong candidate for large organizations securing mission-critical AI and third-party applications, particularly those needing discovery, governance, and runtime controls in one platform. Smaller teams or buyers looking mainly for a low-cost tool may find the enterprise focus and quote-based paid plans difficult to justify.

Pros and cons

Pros: Combines AI and application visibility, governance, and runtime controls, helping teams address connected-service risks across one platform.
Pros: Hundreds of validated connectors plus hosted custom connectors can accommodate a broad and changing application estate.
Pros: Advanced adds detection across account compromise, insider risk, data exposure, and API or token compromise, with an AI Assistant for triage and exceptions.
Cons: Paid plans require a quote, so buyers cannot compare their price with the plan scope before engaging.
Cons: The Free plan is capped at 1K users, and its stated scope is narrower than the detection and response coverage in Advanced.
Cons: The free trial has no stated duration, making its evaluation window uncertain.

Alternatives

For a wider catalog of products in this category, browse SaaS Security Posture Management Software.

Cloudflare Access is worth considering when a buyer wants a freemium option with broad listed platform support, including mobile, desktop, API, and web; its free plan is for under 50 users.
FailSafe may suit smaller teams seeking a free plan capped at 80 users, one organization, and web or API access, though it does not offer a free trial.
Qualys External Attack Surface Management is an alternative for buyers seeking a 30-day no-cost CSAM with EASM trial rather than a continuing free plan.
Onam Security API Security is a better fit when API security is the focus and a free tier capped at one cloud account, 500 resources, and 30-day finding history is sufficient.
Skyhigh Private Access is another paid option for buyers comparing private-access products across mobile, desktop, and web platforms.
ClosedSSPM is a free alternative for buyers who need its listed API, desktop, or self-hosted platform support.
AppOmni may suit buyers who prefer a published entry price: its SaaS Platform costs 7500.00 USD per year on a 12-month contract for 100 users per SaaS application.
Check Point Harmony SASE is an alternative for buyers looking for a SASE product with a 30-day trial and broad desktop, mobile, and web support.

Verdict

Choose Obsidian Security if your organization needs to govern AI agents and connected applications while combining discovery with runtime controls and, on Advanced, detection and incident response. Its connector breadth and enterprise security controls are compelling for that remit. Look elsewhere if a published price, a defined trial period, or a smaller-team solution is essential.
