Overview

RCS-Box is an API for teams building Google RCS Business Messaging into services for multiple brands. It suits development teams and technical leads who need tenant separation and webhook-driven messaging; its clearest drawbacks are the Free plan’s 100-session monthly ceiling and the fixed monthly charges on paid plans.

EU hosting and a German contract partner may suit organizations that value those arrangements. The product is offered on API and web platforms, with API access, two-way messaging, rich media, a verified sender, delivery analytics and webhook support.

Key features

RCS-Box supports text with suggestions, rich cards, carousels and XL messages, and automatically unfurls video and image links. This gives product teams several message formats to work with, while XL messages are available from Skizze onward and count as one conversation.

Webhook events cover incoming messages and opt-in and opt-out activity. Forwarded requests include a lowercase hexadecimal HMAC-SHA256 signature calculated with the tenant API key, so integrations can validate their origin. API calls authenticate with a tenant-specific 64-character hexadecimal key, sent as a Bearer token or in an X-API-Key header.

Each tenant has a dedicated key and brand-level isolation, along with a configurable country allowlist. The default is Germany (+49), so teams targeting other countries should adjust the setting. RCS-Box also manages STOP and START blacklist status per agent automatically, reducing the need to handle that status within a separate integration.

Every plan supports standard mode or newsletter mode. In newsletter mode, billing is based on active recipients per month, a distinction worth weighing when choosing how to reach an audience.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and allows 100 sessions per calendar month. It is a limited starting point for evaluating a small integration, but that cap makes it a poor fit for sustained or high-volume messaging.

Skizze costs 49.00 EUR per month, billed monthly, and includes XL Messages with standard or newsletter mode. It is the lowest paid option for teams that need XL messages and a recurring allowance beyond the free tier’s session cap.

Atelier costs 249.00 EUR per month, billed monthly, and includes XL Messages with standard or newsletter mode. It is a higher-priced step for teams that need a different paid tier, though the published plan details do not distinguish its capacity from Skizze.

Manufaktur costs 999.00 EUR per month, billed monthly, and includes XL Messages with standard or newsletter mode. Its price puts it toward teams prepared for a substantial monthly commitment; the plan details do not state what additional capacity or features separate it from the lower paid plans. The Free plan’s session limit and the newsletter mode’s active-recipient billing are the key usage terms to consider.

Platforms

RCS-Box is available on API and web platforms. Its API orientation is suited to teams integrating RCS into software rather than seeking a standalone messaging client.

Who it's for

Development teams, CTOs and tech leads at startups, scale-ups and enterprise technology units are the stated audience. Multi-brand products can make use of tenant isolation and dedicated keys, while webhook events and signature validation suit teams building message handling into their own systems. Teams sending beyond 100 sessions monthly should look beyond Free; those unwilling to take on a monthly paid plan may find RCS-Box a poor fit.

Pros and cons

Pros: Brand-level isolation and tenant-specific keys provide a clear separation model for multi-brand services.
Pros: Rich cards, carousels, suggestions and automatic media unfurling give teams more message formats than plain text.
Pros: Webhooks include messaging and consent events, with an HMAC-SHA256 signature for verification.
Cons: Free is limited to 100 sessions per calendar month, constraining regular or larger-scale use.
Cons: The country allowlist defaults to Germany (+49), so teams serving other markets need to configure it.
Cons: Paid plans range from 49.00 EUR to 999.00 EUR per month, and their stated details do not clarify differences in capacity.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison, see RCS Messaging Platforms.

Choose Bandwidth Messaging API if a paid API with a free trial and per-message U.S. SMS outbound pricing better suits your needs. SimplyRCS is another freemium API and web option, with a free pay-as-you-go plan and a Starter plan at 20.00 USD per month.

Gupshup may be worth comparing if its messaging-fee model suits your requirements. Orbit by Devotel offers API, web and self-hosted platforms, with a free pay-as-you-go option and two team members included.

Google RCS for Business is an alternative if carrier rate-card billing, dependent on destination region and billing category, is a better fit. LINK Mobility RCS is another paid API and web option, with pricing that varies by message type and a 24-hour session for RCS Conversation.

M-Target RCS for Business is another paid API and web alternative. Juphoon RCS.DEV is a paid web alternative.

Verdict

RCS-Box is a strong fit for technical teams integrating Google RCS across brands, particularly when rich formats, consent-event webhooks and tenant controls matter. Its Free plan is useful only within 100 sessions per calendar month, and the steep spread of monthly paid prices is hard to assess without clearer capacity distinctions; teams needing predictable fit at scale should compare alternatives before committing.
