Overview

StudyGlen can turn PDFs, text, images, handwritten notes, YouTube links and Anki decks into study materials. That flexibility is useful when lessons are spread across documents, video and existing cards; it is less compelling for learners who only need a conventional flashcard app. Quiz generation accepts PDFs up to 20MB, text up to 20,000 characters, images with OCR, and YouTube URLs using captions.

Quiz generation supports 41 content languages with localized AI explanations, while the interface supports 13 languages. A no-account trial offers five quiz questions without a credit card, a low-friction way to judge whether generated practice suits your material. StudyGlen says it is GDPR compliant and deletes uploads from active systems after processing, though backups may persist for up to 30 days.

Key features

Quizzes, cards and Anki

Flashcards support basic and cloze deletion formats, FSRS spaced repetition, and smart, sequential and shuffle study modes. Anki imports accept .apkg, .colpkg, .txt, .csv and .tsv files and preserve SM-2 scheduling. That makes StudyGlen a practical option for Anki users who want to bring existing cards and scheduling along, although the free five-import daily cap can slow larger migrations.

Comics, live quizzes and exports

The comic tool creates scripts, characters, dialogue and scenes, with cartoon, anime, watercolor, realistic and sketch styles. Its educational focus gives teachers and visual learners another way to present material, but the free tier includes only one lifetime comic. Live quiz competitions offer unlimited hosting, real-time leaderboards and no credit requirement, a notably generous option for group review.

Quizzes can be exported without charge or limits as PDF, Word, CSV, Anki (.apkg) or QTI for LMS platforms, including direct import into Canvas and Moodle. The range is useful for learners moving between tools and educators distributing quiz material. On iOS and Android, quizzes and flashcards work offline, with ratings syncing when connectivity returns.

Pricing

The Free Forever plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes one quiz or flashcard per day, one lifetime comic, and two question regenerations per day. It is enough to sample the formats, but the daily creation cap is restrictive for regular study. Free users also get five Anki imports per day. The free allowance includes a comic trial; quiz generation can additionally be tried without an account for five free questions.

Paid packs are one-time purchases, not subscriptions, and their credits never expire. One study credit generates one complete quiz or flashcard deck; all paid packs include five regenerations per day. The Mini Pack costs 4.99 USD per once for 10 study credits, but includes no comic credit. The Starter Pack costs 9.99 USD per once for 30 study credits and one comic credit; the Plus Pack costs 24.99 USD per once for 100 study credits and three comic credits; the Pro Pack costs 49.99 USD per once for 300 study credits and five comic credits. The larger packs suit people expecting sustained use or regular comic creation, while the Mini Pack is a smaller commitment for occasional study. The packs do not remove the daily regeneration limit.

Platforms

StudyGlen is available on web, iOS and Android. Its mobile apps support offline review of quizzes and flashcards, then sync ratings when a connection returns. That helps learners continue reviewing away from reliable internet, though the stated offline support covers review rather than creating materials.

Who it's for

Students preparing for exams, including medical and nursing students, and language learners can use the mix of source formats, practice modes and multilingual quiz generation. Teachers may find the comics and no-credit live competitions useful for varying lessons, while parents are also among the audiences StudyGlen serves. Anki users have a specific reason to consider it: imports preserve SM-2 scheduling, and exports can carry cards back out. It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs a high volume of daily generations on a free plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad input support brings documents, images, video captions and existing Anki decks into one study workflow.
Pros: Unmetered quiz exports and unlimited live quiz hosting make it useful for sharing and group review without spending credits.
Pros: One-time study packs do not expire, avoiding recurring billing for occasional or uneven study schedules.
Cons: The free plan allows only one quiz or flashcard daily, with two regenerations, so regular free use is tightly capped.
Cons: The cheapest paid pack has no comic credit, and the one-comic free allowance is only a lifetime trial.

Alternatives

For learners who want a free mobile flashcard app with more daily AI generation, Jambo offers five AI generations per day and up to 2,000 cards on its free plan; StudyGlen is the better fit when varied source uploads, quiz exports or Anki scheduling matter. RemNote is worth considering for annotated PDFs, image occlusion and handwritten documents, with 250 monthly AI credits on its free plan.

Brainscape is another freemium flashcard option; its Pro plan includes unlimited AI flashcard creation for 7.99 USD per year. For macOS users seeking a free card system, Mindomax offers unlimited cards in one box on its Free Forever plan. StudySense offers a free web and mobile plan with five decks and five AI generations per month, while Gizmo has a yearly plan paid upfront for 365 days that auto-renews until canceled.

PupilBot is an iOS alternative whose free plan covers a first study of up to three pages. Cogni offers a free mobile and web plan with spaced repetition, notes, sync and Anki import, subject to a daily review limit. For a broader comparison, browse Flashcard apps, AI Flashcard Generators or AI Study Tools.

Verdict

StudyGlen is a strong choice for students and educators who want quizzes, cards and comics from varied material, especially if Anki compatibility or LMS-ready exports matter. Its one-time packs and unlimited live hosting add flexibility. Look elsewhere if you need generous free daily creation or a focused flashcard workflow without the broader toolset.
