Overview

Ledor combines rapid word-by-word reading with a conventional e-reader and text-to-speech narration. That makes it a better fit for readers who move between articles, books, and listening than for someone seeking only a basic ebook shelf. EPUB import and saving articles by URL cover common reading material, while Android users can also share a page directly to the app.

Key features

Reading modes and controls

RSVP is the speed-reading mode; conventional e-reader view offers a more familiar way through a book, and text-to-speech provides an audio option. TTS uses system voices, has lock-screen controls, and supports speeds from 0.5× to 3×. The speed range and playback controls are useful, but the voice selection and quality depend on the system voices available on the device.

Readers can adjust colors, fonts, text sizes, and positions, preview changes live, and choose light or dark themes. These controls give readers room to tailor the display rather than accept a fixed layout.

Offline reading, sync, and privacy

Ledor says it works without internet and stores books and progress on the device. Optional Google Drive sync can carry the library, progress, bookmarks, ratings, sessions, and display settings across devices. Ledor says it uses Drive's drive.file scope to access only files it created, with data traveling directly between the device and Google Drive. Sync is a practical option for readers switching devices, but it is not automatic account-based syncing through Ledor itself.

The privacy policy says Ledor collects no data and has no analytics, ads, tracking, accounts, or servers of its own. Weekly and monthly reading charts and a shareable monthly recap are calculated on the device. The MIT license and GitHub issues, pull requests, and forks offer a route for users who want to inspect or contribute to the project.

Pricing

Ledor's Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes all features, with no ads and no account. There is no free trial because the app is free. Readers do not have to give up customization, reading modes, or sync access for a paid tier; Google Drive sync remains optional.

Platforms

Ledor supports Android, iOS, Linux, and web. Android also supports sharing a page directly to the app. Optional Google Drive sync is the stated way to carry reading data across devices.

Who it's for

Ledor is a strong fit for readers who want EPUB and web-article support alongside RSVP, narration, customizable display controls, and offline access without a subscription or account. It is less compelling for someone who only wants a conventional reader, or who expects cross-device syncing without connecting Google Drive.

Pros and cons

Pros: All features are free, with no ads or account requirement, so the reading modes and display controls are not reserved for paid users.
Pros: On-device books, progress, and statistics support offline reading without Ledor accounts or servers.
Pros: Optional Drive sync covers a broad set of reading data, not just the library.
Cons: Cross-device sync depends on Google Drive, which may not suit readers who want a service independent of that platform.
Cons: TTS relies on system voices, so voice quality depends on the device.

Alternatives

Speed Reading Apps is a useful starting point for comparing more speed-reading options.

Reading Trainer may suit readers who want a freemium curriculum and exercises; its free plan includes the first curriculum unit and a couple of exercises, and it offers a free trial.
Superead is another freemium option on Android, iOS, and web, with a limited-features free plan.
LightSpeedRead may fit readers who want a browser-focused option: its free plan includes a website reader, speed test, calculator, and guides, plus a Chrome extension that reads up to 600 wpm. Pro costs 2.99 USD per month.
Outread may suit readers on iOS, macOS, or extension who want to try its free plan or trial before considering Outread+ at 4.99 USD per month.
Dogear is a free iOS and macOS alternative with no ads, subscription, or account.
Flash-Read is a web-based option whose free tier gives guests three stories.
LumaRead is a web option with a free allowance of 1,500 words per day, one book in its library, and reading speeds up to 600 WPM.
Spreeder is available across more platforms, including Windows, macOS, and browser extensions.

Verdict

Choose Ledor if you want a free, open-source reader that combines RSVP, EPUB and article reading, narration, and flexible display controls with offline use. Its main advantage is that the full feature set is free without an account; look elsewhere if you need cross-device sync that does not rely on Google Drive or want narration voices beyond those your device provides.
