Overview

WordPress.com is a hosted site and publishing service for people who want WordPress without arranging hosting separately. It is strongest for publishers and creators who may expand into memberships, newsletters, or commerce. Its free entry point is useful for getting started, but ads and a 1 GB storage cap make it a limited long-term home.

Managed hosting, a global CDN, security protections, and unmetered bandwidth come with every plan. That is a solid foundation for sites with changing traffic, though storage remains a meaningful constraint on lower tiers. Paid annual plans include a custom domain for the first year.

WordPress.com spans Website builders, Blogging Platforms, Personal Website Builders, AI Website Builders, Nonprofit Website Builders, and Music Website Builders.

Key features

Scheduled posts, blog analytics, built-in memberships, and theme customization with custom code cover the needs of a publishing site that wants more than a basic page builder. Newsletters can start free with unlimited subscribers, while payment buttons support PayPal and Stripe. These options suit creators building an audience or collecting payments, but Commerce is the tier that adds ecommerce tools and a WooCommerce experience.

The plugin marketplace has over 60,000 plugins and supports direct uploads, giving growing sites room to add functionality. Business and Commerce also include SFTP/SSH, WP-CLI, Git commands, GitHub Deployments, real-time backups, and one-click restores. Those tools will matter more to developers and teams than to a simple personal blog.

Business and Commerce include MailPoet Business email marketing for 500 subscribers. The Jetpack mobile app supports site management on iOS and Android. Support ranges from free support to free 24/7 priority expert support, so the support level depends on the plan.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and has no expiration date. It includes 1 GB storage, unlimited pages and posts, and basic stats for 7 days. WordPress.com ads appear on free sites, making this better for trying the service or maintaining a modest project than for a polished public presence.

Personal is 2.75 USD per month, billed every 12 months, with 6 GB storage and unlimited pages, posts, users, and visitors. It removes WordPress.com ads and suits a personal site or publication that needs its own domain and a cleaner presentation, but it has less room for media than higher tiers.

Premium is 5.50 USD per month, billed every 12 months, and raises storage to 13 GB while retaining unlimited pages, posts, users, and visitors. It is a more comfortable fit for a creator publishing regularly, though the listed storage remains finite.

Business is 17.50 USD per month, billed every 12 months, with 50 GB storage and unlimited pages, posts, users, and visitors. Its developer tools, backups, restores, and 500-subscriber MailPoet Business inclusion make it the more capable choice for teams and sites that need operational control, rather than a necessary upgrade for every blog.

Commerce is 31.50 USD per month, billed every 12 months, excluding taxes. It has 50 GB storage and adds ecommerce tools and a WooCommerce experience, so it is the relevant tier for a store rather than a general upgrade for a site that only needs publishing. WordPress VIP is 25000.00 USD per year for an enterprise platform, with a demo offered. Agencies has custom pricing; the displayed rate is INR 54 per month per site, excluding taxes, and is not a USD rate.

Platforms

The Jetpack app is available on iOS and Android for managing sites on mobile. Hosting is included, so users do not need to arrange a separate hosting provider for a WordPress.com site.

Who it's for

WordPress.com is a good fit for bloggers, newsletter publishers, and creators who want managed hosting and a path from free publishing to memberships or payments. Business suits teams and developers who need backups, deployment tools, and more storage; Commerce is for businesses that need its ecommerce and WooCommerce capabilities. It is less compelling for someone who wants an ad-free site at no cost, or for a site whose storage needs exceed the lower tiers.

Pros and cons

Pros: Managed hosting, a global CDN, security protections, and unmetered bandwidth are included across plans, reducing infrastructure work and avoiding bandwidth caps.
Pros: Unlimited pages, posts, users, and visitors on paid plans give growing sites room to expand without those particular quotas becoming a constraint.
Pros: Publishing, memberships, newsletters, analytics, and payment buttons cover several creator workflows in one service.
Cons: The free plan displays ads and limits storage to 1 GB, so it is a compromise for a professional-looking site or a media-heavy publication.
Cons: The advertised lower paid rates are billed annually, and storage is capped at 6 GB on Personal and 13 GB on Premium.
Cons: Advanced developer tools, backups, and restores are reserved for Business and Commerce, while ecommerce tools are tied to Commerce.

Verdict

Choose WordPress.com if you want managed WordPress publishing with a clear route from a small blog to memberships, newsletters, or a store. Its broad publishing toolkit and unmetered bandwidth are the main reasons to choose it; look elsewhere if an ad-free free tier, generous entry-level storage, or advanced tools without a Business-tier commitment matter more.
