Overview

Klaros brings projects, requirements, test cases, suites, environments, runs, and results into a common record. Requirements, cases, and suites can be revisioned, with versions associated with the system under test and its environment. That context helps teams understand what a result applies to, provided they keep the linked test material current.

Manual testers work through guided steps in a web client, recording comments, attachments, and results. Automated results can arrive through a Jenkins/Hudson plug-in. Bringing both into the same system suits QA teams with mixed execution methods, though the automation connection described is specifically for Jenkins/Hudson.

Key features

Planning, execution, and evidence

Klaros supports test planning, case management, and run tracking, then generates reports and statistics from stored test data. Exports include PDF, HTML, CSV, and TXT, giving teams several formats for sharing or processing results. The value depends on maintaining complete test records: reporting draws on what the team has stored.

Integrations and access

Issue-tracker integrations include Jira, Redmine, GitLab, Bugzilla, GitHub, Mantis, and Trac, which can suit teams that want test work alongside existing issue workflows. REST interfaces provide read access and import paths for test results, cases, and requirements. Authentication can use Klaros-managed credentials or LDAP or Active Directory, and CAS single sign-on is supported.

Pricing

The Community Edition costs 0.00 EUR per free and allows unlimited concurrent users. It gives smaller or budget-conscious QA teams a way to use the product without a concurrent-seat ceiling, but includes fewer features than Enterprise Edition.

Enterprise Edition has custom pricing and a license tied to a set number of users, making it the option for teams that need its additional features and can work within a defined user count. Klaros also offers a 30-day trial. The free plan’s user allowance is generous, but its feature gap is the important trade-off when evaluating it for broader team needs.

Platforms

Klaros is web-based and can be installed on 64-bit Windows or Linux servers; Docker deployment is documented. Supported databases include Apache Derby, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL. The manual warns that the default Apache Derby database is not intended for production and recommends a separate production database such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle. That makes database selection a deployment requirement, not an optional refinement.

Platforms include Android, API, Linux, self-hosted, web, and Windows. The maker also describes a Mobile Edition for executing manual test cases on mobile devices and documenting them with audio, video, and GPS.

Who it's for

Klaros is best suited to QA teams that need revisioned requirements and test assets, structured manual execution, reportable results, and links to established issue trackers. Its free concurrent-user model is especially relevant when headcount is variable. Teams seeking a particular automation workflow beyond Jenkins/Hudson, or those unwilling to manage a production database deployment, should weigh those constraints before choosing it.

Pros and cons

Pros

Unlimited concurrent users in the free Community Edition removes a seat-count barrier for growing teams.
Revisioning tied to system and environment versions gives execution results useful context.
Issue-tracker integrations, REST imports, and Jenkins/Hudson result transfer support established QA workflows.
PDF, HTML, CSV, and TXT exports offer practical options for distributing stored test reports.

Cons

The Community Edition has fewer features than Enterprise, so the free edition may not cover every team requirement.
Enterprise licensing is for a set number of users, unlike the free edition’s unlimited concurrent-user allowance.
Apache Derby is explicitly unsuitable for production, so production deployments need a separate database choice.
The described automated-results plug-in is for Jenkins/Hudson, which may not match teams built around another automation tool.

Alternatives

Compare test management software to explore more options. Consider Kualitee if its free Growth plan’s stated caps—one project, 500 test cases, 200 defects, three users, and 20 AI credits per month per domain—fit your scope. Qase is another free option, with a stated limit of four users and two projects, plus 500 MB storage, 30-day test history, 5k monthly API results, and two active test runs.

Testiny is a web, API, and self-hosted alternative. TestMu AI may suit teams looking for a paid AI-oriented option; its KaneAI Starter plan is 17.00 USD per month billed annually, with one agent and 2,000 credits per month per agent. Zephyr is a downloadable free option with a name-your-own-price plan. QA Sphere, Tricentis Testim, and aqua are other alternatives to consider.

Verdict

Choose Klaros-Testmanagement if your QA team needs linked requirements, revisioned test assets, manual execution records, and automated results gathered alongside issue-tracker work, especially if unlimited concurrent users matter. Its production database warning and the Community Edition’s reduced feature set are the main reasons to look elsewhere or budget for Enterprise.
