Overview

Testportal is an online platform for assessing skills and knowledge through quizzes, tests, exams, and certifications. It is a strong fit for schools, training teams, and employers that need to monitor respondents and analyze results, rather than just publish a quiz. The broad question and delivery options are balanced by response quotas on several plans and a stated ceiling of 1,000 simultaneous respondents.

Key features

Questions can be written from scratch, imported from PDF or Word, or generated with AI. Single- and multiple-choice and self-grading short answers suit assessments that need quick scoring; descriptive open-ended questions allow richer responses but call for human judgment. Automatic and manual scoring, partial and negative points, bonus points, pass marks, grade ranges, and multidimensional scoring give administrators useful control over how performance is evaluated.

Reporting covers results tables, detailed respondent reviews, scores by question, pass rates, histograms, grade distributions, average answer times, answer popularity, and cross-test results. Live monitoring and progress statistics are useful for following an assessment in progress, while certificates support credential programs. Exports depend on the plan: Business and paid education plans support PDF, XLSX, and CSV, while Free EDU users can download PDF reports.

Tests can be distributed by public link, email verification, group password, individual access code, Microsoft Teams, website embed, API, or printable sheets. Respondents do not need a Testportal account and can save and resume after an interruption, reducing access friction. The API can authorize respondents, start tests, and return results through another system. The Microsoft Teams add-in includes Azure Active Directory authorization and live webcam monitoring.

Testportal says its infrastructure runs on Microsoft Azure and uses anti-DDoS techniques, auto-scaling, redundancy, SSL, and encryption. It describes itself as GDPR ready and offers a customized data processing agreement. These are relevant assurances for organizations handling assessment data, but do not replace their own security and privacy review.

Pricing

Testportal is freemium, with a 14-day trial and paid plans starting at $35/mo. Free EDU costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever, and stores 100 results. It includes advanced test configuration and reporting, additional user accounts and collaboration, and customization. That makes it a practical starting point for smaller education programs, though the storage cap can constrain a continuing record of results.

Standard costs 35.00 USD per month and allows 30 results/month. It includes AI question creation and PDF/Word import, analytics and reporting, certificates, and API integration. It is the lowest-priced listed business plan, but the monthly response allowance suits modest volume better than recurring large cohorts. PRO costs 79.00 USD per month for 300 results/month, while MAX costs 129.00 USD per month for 3,000 results/month; both include those Standard business capabilities. The higher quotas better suit growing assessment programs, although organizations with unpredictable or larger demand should compare their expected monthly volume against the caps.

EDU costs 39.00 USD per year and offers unlimited results storage, advanced test configuration and reporting, additional user accounts and collaboration, and customization. It is the most clearly education-focused paid option for programs that need durable results storage and shared administration. MAX Customized starts at $159 / month, with unlimited results/month, AI question creation and document import, analytics and reporting, certificates, additional users and collaboration, and API integration. EDU School and EDU University have custom pricing and unlimited results storage with advanced configuration, reporting, additional accounts, collaboration, and customization; EDU School is for district deployments only. Support is available by email, and Testportal says it provides human support rather than chatbots.

Platforms

Testportal supports Android, iOS, web, and an extension. The web-based delivery options, including Teams, embeds, and API, make it adaptable to different assessment workflows, while mobile apps extend access beyond a desktop browser.

Who it's for

The company identifies human resources, training, certification, sales and customer service, language schools, teachers, schools, and universities as target users. It is particularly well suited to organizations that need more than multiple-choice testing: mixed question formats, scoring controls, monitoring, reporting, and several distribution methods support both instruction and workplace evaluation. Readers who need only a small quiz or who expect very high response volume should weigh the plan caps and simultaneous-respondent ceiling before choosing it.

Pros and cons

Pros: Import, AI generation, and several question formats support both quick checks and more considered evaluations.
Pros: Monitoring, detailed analytics, scoring controls, and certificates cover the assessment lifecycle from delivery to review.
Pros: Account-free respondent access and resume-after-interruption support make participation less cumbersome.
Cons: Free EDU stores only 100 results, and Standard, PRO, and MAX impose monthly result quotas.
Cons: Testportal states a maximum of 1,000 simultaneous respondents and asks customers with larger groups to contact the company.
Cons: Report export formats vary by plan, with Free EDU limited to PDF.

Alternatives

Choose FlexiQuiz if its free allowance of 20 responses per month, 20 responses per quiz, unlimited quizzes, and 10 questions per quiz better matches a small recurring quiz program; it also includes five respondent portals and 1 GB of storage.

SpeedExam is worth comparing for exam programs that can work within its free plan of 25 exam attempts per month, 2,000 questions, and 100 MB storage. Crowdpurr is another option to compare for a free setup capped at 20 participants, 15 questions, and three simultaneous experiences.

ProProfs Quiz Maker offers a free plan with 12 questions, including eight quiz questions and four lead fields, and 90-day report history. Classtime may suit classroom use when its free Basic plan’s allowance of up to 40 simultaneous students, unlimited questions and sessions, and 50,000+ free questions is a better fit.

Interact is an alternative for a free lead-capture quiz setup allowing 100 completions per month, two quizzes, and one user, with no integrations and Interact branding. ScoreApp offers a free plan for one live scorecard and up to 10 responses per month. For hiring workflows, compare TestGorilla, whose free plan includes 10 credits each month, five essential-skills tests, and one full-access seat.

Verdict

Testportal is a strong choice for educators and organizations that need flexible assessments, respondent monitoring, and substantial reporting in one platform. Its account-free participation, integrations, and scoring controls make it more capable than a basic quiz tool, but the result quotas on its lower business plans and the 1,000-person concurrency limit matter for high-volume use. Choose it when those assessment and reporting capabilities outweigh the need for uncapped volume; look elsewhere if your expected use exceeds the plan allowances or simultaneous limit.
