Overview

JBS replaces manual wallpaper changes with scheduled rotation. It can show a single photo or compose several into a montage or collage, making it useful both for a changing gallery and for keeping several images in view at once. It is focused on still photos, so it is not the right pick for someone seeking video or animated wallpaper.

Image sources include local photos, Flickr, SmugMug, Unsplash, Pixabay, Dropbox, OneDrive, Vladstudio, Immich and Media RSS feeds, with availability varying by platform. Windows also lists Pexels, Last.fm and Wallhaven. That breadth is a practical advantage for people with collections spread across services, but the platform split means source choice should factor into the edition decision.

Key features

Rotation and monitor controls

The Mac version supports intervals from every 10 seconds to every 7 days, plus grayscale, sepia and desaturation effects. On multiple monitors, it can show the same image on each display, different images, or use only one monitor. That flexibility makes it the stronger edition for multi-screen desks; Windows users should not expect those monitor options or Mac-specific effects.

Windows edition and privacy

Windows 10 and later are supported, with Microsoft .NET 4.8 required; the setup wizard can install it if needed. The Windows edition includes a system tray interface, a cached photo browser and full documentation. It also offers an uninstaller that the maker says removes every trace of the app. Its language selection spans English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Ukrainian, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Russian, Finnish, Hungarian, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

JBS stores settings and authentication tokens locally, connects directly to photo services and keeps cached photo results for no longer than two days. Update checks send an IP address retained in server logs for up to 30 days; crash reports include a call stack and operating system version, without personally identifiable information. This is a reasonably clear account of routine data flows, though update checks do involve an IP address.

Pricing

The Windows plan is 0.00 USD per free for Windows 10 and above. An optional support license lets users choose how much to pay; the core free plan is the sensible choice for Windows users who want photo rotation without an upfront charge.

Mac direct costs 7.99 USD per once, and Mac App Store costs 8.99 USD per once; both require macOS 12.0 and above. The direct purchase is the lower-priced route, while the App Store option costs one dollar more. Both are one-time purchases rather than subscriptions, and the Mac version is the paid route for users who need its multi-monitor controls and image effects.

Platforms

JBS runs on Windows 10 and later and macOS 12.0 and later. The editions differ in sources and controls, so it is worth choosing according to the features needed on the intended computer rather than assuming parity.

Who it's for

JBS is a good fit for people who want a desktop that refreshes from local photos or supported online sources, particularly Mac users with multiple displays or a preference for collage layouts. Windows users get a free option with a broad set of sources and supporting utilities. It is less suitable for anyone whose priority is animated wallpaper or a uniform feature set across Mac and Windows.

Pros and cons

Pro: Local photos and numerous online sources give users several ways to keep a rotation varied.
Pro: Single images, montages and collages accommodate different desktop styles.
Pro: Mac monitor choices, long interval range and image effects offer meaningful display control.
Pro: Windows is free, while Mac has one-time purchase options rather than recurring charges.
Con: Source availability and features vary by platform, so the editions are not interchangeable.
Con: The distinctive monitor controls and listed image effects are Mac-only.
Con: Update checks transmit an IP address, even though the maker says logs retain it for no longer than 30 days.

Verdict

Choose JBS if you want scheduled still-photo rotation with a choice of image sources and layouts, especially if you use multiple monitors on Mac. Free Windows access and one-time Mac pricing make the cost structure straightforward. Look elsewhere if animated wallpaper is essential or if you need the same controls on both platforms.
