Overview

OpenAgree brings contract creation and negotiation into one workflow: users describe an agreement in everyday language, then use automated review, signature and tracking tools as it progresses. That breadth can reduce the work of moving between separate drafting and follow-up processes. It does not, however, remove the need to assess whether a generated term or suggested compromise is right for the parties.

The platform says its approach draws on research into AI negotiation and contract law, and references the University of Chicago Law Review. Its site displays SOC 2 Type II and GDPR Compliant badges, and its homepage reports all systems operational.

Key features

Plain-language drafting: Describe an agreement in everyday language and OpenAgree turns it into a legally structured contract. This is a useful starting point for freelancers and small projects, though users still need to review the resulting terms.
AI negotiation and review: The negotiation engine analyzes proposed changes and suggests compromises informed by legal best practices, industry standards and historical data. That can help structure a negotiation, but a suggested compromise is not a substitute for deciding what terms are acceptable.
Risk and compliance checks: Automated risk assessment evaluates terms in real time, while compliance validation is intended to check that terms meet legal standards. These checks may help flag issues during review; the platform does not make the user's judgment unnecessary.
Lifecycle and signatures: OpenAgree tracks milestones, manages payments and sends notifications and status updates, alongside integrated digital signatures and validation. Combining these functions is useful when an agreement needs follow-through after signing.
Business capabilities: The business offering adds advanced AI negotiation features and detailed analytics and reporting, making it the more relevant fit for complex agreements than the simpler Light Agreements option.

Pricing

OpenAgree uses freemium, pay-per-use pricing. Free to Start costs 0.00 USD per free for the first two contracts or agreements, requires no credit card, and has no subscription or hidden fees. That makes trying the workflow low-commitment, but the free allowance is capped at two agreements.

Light Agreements has custom pricing at the plan level, with charges of $1 for creating an agreement, $5 for an AI change proposal and $2 for milestone tracking. It is aimed at freelancers and small projects using simple contracts; paying only when used avoids a subscription, though repeated proposals or tracking actions raise the total.

For Business also has custom pricing at the plan level, with charges of $5 for creating a contract, $10 for an AI change proposal and $3 for milestone tracking. It includes complex agreements, advanced AI negotiation features and detailed analytics and reporting. Businesses needing those capabilities may find the per-action model worthwhile, but should account for each proposal and tracking action when estimating regular use. No trial length or renewal terms are stated.

Platforms

OpenAgree is a cloud-deployed web platform. That keeps the described workflow browser-based, but readers looking specifically for a native desktop or mobile platform should consider their platform needs before choosing it.

Who it's for

Freelancers and people managing small projects are the clearest fit for Light Agreements: it targets simple contracts and charges only when an agreement-related action is used. Businesses negotiating more complex agreements are better matched to For Business, where advanced negotiation and reporting are included. OpenAgree is less compelling for high-volume use if per-action charges would be difficult to predict or control.

Pros and cons

Pro: The first two agreements are free with no card required, so users can try the drafting and negotiation workflow before paying.
Pro: Drafting, proposed-change review, risk assessment, signatures and lifecycle tracking sit within one platform.
Pro: Light Agreements and For Business address different levels of contract complexity, rather than forcing small-project users into business features.
Con: The free offer stops after two agreements, and subsequent creation, change proposal and tracking actions each incur charges.
Con: Separate per-action charges make ongoing costs depend on how often users negotiate and track agreements.
Con: OpenAgree is web-only, which may not suit readers who require another platform.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, browse Contract Negotiation Software. Choose Contractbook instead if a freemium service with API and web platforms, an Essential plan for one user with 100 signed contracts a year and five templates, or a Centralize plan at 399.00 USD per month billed annually fits better. Canveo is a paid web alternative.

DocuSign eSignature is worth considering when the priority is sending, signing and managing agreements through an API-based freemium service; its Personal plan is 11.00 USD per month with an annual commitment. Choose Docusign CLM if a paid API-based contract lifecycle management option with contact-sales pricing is a better fit. Icertis Contract Management is another paid API-based alternative. Juro may suit teams seeking paid API access with unlimited users, workflows and templates on its Essentials and Growth plans, both at custom pricing. LinkSquares and Sirion are also paid API-based alternatives.

Verdict

OpenAgree is a strong fit for freelancers who need occasional simple agreements and businesses seeking AI-supported negotiation alongside signing and lifecycle tracking. The first two free agreements and pay-per-action options lower the entry barrier, while the main reason to look elsewhere is the prospect of accumulating charges through frequent proposals and tracking.
