Overview

The service runs the corresponding GOV.UK check for a right-to-work or right-to-rent share code and returns its answer as JSON. Responses can include the outcome, dates, conditions, applicant photo and GOV.UK PDF, and an audit trail is supported. The home page also provides two live checks per day without an account, enough for occasional initial use but not sustained checking.

Right-to-work checks are intended for UK employers, recruitment agencies and hiring platforms. Right-to-rent checks serve landlords and letting agents in England and apply to every adult tenant. This is a private service, not one affiliated with HM Government, the Home Office or GOV.UK.

Key features

API and callbacks

API access is useful when checks need to sit inside a recruitment or rental workflow rather than be handled solely through a separate page. Asynchronous checks can send signed results to a callback URL, including on every plan and in sandbox. Documentation includes cURL, Node.js and Python examples; Node.js requires no SDK. Rate limits vary by plan, so teams with high request bursts should compare those limits as well as monthly check allowances.

Data handling and support

Live check inputs and GOV.UK pages are retained for up to seven days to investigate failed or disputed checks, then deleted automatically. That bounded window may suit teams that do not need longer service-side retention, but it is worth accounting for if a case requires follow-up beyond that period. The maker says customer and applicant data is processed within the UK and EEA, with no transfers outside those regions during a check. API keys are stored as SHA-256 hashes, traffic uses TLS, and Stripe handles card data rather than the service storing it.

A published data processing agreement and countersignable PDF can help procurement review. General enquiries, security issues and support go to support@checksharecode.co.uk.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and includes 10 live checks a month, a hard stop at 10, no card requirement, a sandbox key and five requests a second. It is a sensible starting point for low-volume use or integration work, but the hard cap means it cannot absorb a busier month.

Pro costs £14.00 per month, billed £14/month, and includes 100 live checks a month, then £0.25 per check, with 20 requests a second and email support from Matthew. It suits smaller teams with predictable volume; the overage charge matters if hiring surges push usage beyond the allowance.

Scale costs £49.00 per month, billed £49/month, for 500 live checks monthly, then £0.10 a check, and 50 requests a second. Its larger allowance and lower overage rate fit heavier throughput better than Pro, though teams below that volume may not need the higher monthly commitment. Enterprise has custom pricing and is invoiced monthly, with volume-based rates, an SLA, a named contact, signed DPA and higher rate limits. It is the option for organizations needing negotiated capacity or service terms.

Platforms

The service is available on web and through an API. The web option supports direct use, while the API is the more relevant route for teams integrating checks into their own systems.

Who it's for

Employers, recruiters and hiring platforms in the UK have the clearest fit for right-to-work checks. Landlords and letting agents in England can use it for right-to-rent checks, including the requirement to check every adult tenant. Organizations seeking a government-affiliated provider should look elsewhere, and teams that need checks beyond the published monthly allowances should weigh the overage terms or Enterprise pricing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Signed callbacks are included even in sandbox, making the service practical to evaluate in an automated workflow.
Pros: The Free plan has no card requirement, while paid tiers publish monthly allowances, overage prices and request rates.
Pros: UK/EEA processing, a seven-day automatic deletion policy and a countersignable DPA give teams concrete points for data and procurement review.
Cons: Free use stops at 10 live checks a month, so occasional testing does not translate into flexible production capacity.
Cons: Pro and Scale charge per additional check after their allowances, requiring volume monitoring to control spend.
Cons: The service is explicitly independent of government, so it is not a government-operated checking service.

Alternatives

Right to Work Verification Software is a broader directory of options for comparing providers. For a free web-based government service with no stated usage limits on its opened pages, choose GOV.UK Right to Work Checking Service instead. Rightcheck has custom pricing and web, Android and iOS platforms, making it an option to investigate if mobile access matters.

Clear I-9 uses a demo-led approach with unpublished pricing. EmploymentCheck Right to Work Check offers per-check options at £2.25 GBP per once for its G-Cloud 14 cloud service and £2.50 GBP per once for its Right to Work Check. Experian Data Quality Solutions offers a free trial and tailored pricing through consultation.

TrustID Right to Work sells checks on a credit basis with a 100-check minimum order and no setup costs or admin fees. Verifit offers per-seat pricing by quote with all capabilities included on one platform. Yoti Right to Work is another option available on web, iOS and Android.

Verdict

Right To Work Checker is a good fit for UK hiring and England rental teams that want share-code results delivered through a web service or integrated API, especially when signed callbacks matter. Its low-cost entry and published volume terms are useful, but hard caps, overage charges and non-government status are material constraints. Choose it when workflow integration and predictable check volume are priorities; look elsewhere for a government-operated service or if the plan limits do not suit your expected volume.
