Overview

XnConvert is desktop software for converting and editing batches of images, best suited to people handling large or recurring photo collections. Its breadth of operations and automation make it more capable than a simple format converter, though businesses need a paid license.

It handles more than 500 formats and exports to about 70, so it can bring varied collections into consistent formats while applying edits. More than 80 operations cover metadata, transformations, adjustments, filters and effects. That range helps when a batch needs more than a format change, but makes XnConvert less compelling for a one-off conversion.

Saved presets make repeat jobs easier to standardize, and watched folders can automatically apply edits to new or updated images. Export to NConvert provides a command-line route for workflows that outgrow the graphical interface. XnConvert also supports drag-and-drop and includes more than 20 translations.

Key features

Batch editing and conversion: More than 80 operations include metadata editing, transforms, adjustments, filters and effects. Bulk renaming, resizing and RAW processing extend its use beyond format changes.
Broad format support: It supports more than 500 formats and exports to about 70, including JPEG, TIFF, PNG and WebP. This is useful for mixed collections, though the number of formats alone does not guarantee every workflow needs its wider feature set.
Reusable automation: Presets preserve an edit sequence for later batches; watched folders can trigger a custom set of edits when images are added or updated. That suits recurring work better than occasional manual edits.
Image review and control: Quality controls, color management, a metadata viewer, side-by-side comparison and contact sheets help users manage output and inspect images alongside processing.
Command-line option: XnConvert can export to NConvert, offering a path to command-line use for users who want to build on a batch workflow.

Pricing

XnConvert is freeware for private or educational use, including non-profit organizations. That makes it a practical option for personal collections, learning and qualifying nonprofit work. The free plan is not for company use, and there is no free trial plan to bridge into business use.

Company licenses are priced once per license, with the per-license cost falling for larger purchases: 1 license costs 15.00 EUR per once; 2–9 licenses cost 13.50 EUR per once; 10–19 cost 12.00 EUR per once; 20–49 cost 10.50 EUR per once; 50–99 cost 9.00 EUR per once; and 100+ cost 6.50 EUR per once. These tiers suit businesses that can buy multiple seats, while a single-seat buyer pays the highest listed per-license price. The license requirement means company users should factor the purchase into adopting XnConvert.

Platforms

XnConvert runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, making it suitable for mixed desktop environments. The product page recommends its forum for interaction with users and the developer. Download checksums are provided as SHA-256.

Who it's for

XnConvert is a strong fit for photographers, educators and nonprofit organizations that need repeatable batch conversion or edits across varied collections. Folder monitoring and saved presets are especially useful when new images arrive regularly. Its command-line export may also suit users extending a recurring process beyond the graphical interface.

It is less suitable for company users who want a free tool, or for anyone seeking a narrow, occasional format conversion without setting up a batch workflow. Businesses can use it with a company license, but should weigh the per-seat cost against how much they need its automation and editing breadth.

Pros and cons

Pro: More than 80 operations and support for more than 500 formats cover substantial batch editing and conversion needs.
Pro: Presets and watched folders reduce repeated setup for recurring image-processing jobs.
Pro: Windows, macOS and Linux support serves users across the major desktop platforms.
Con: Company use requires a paid license, so the free option does not extend to business workflows.
Con: The single-license company tier costs 15.00 EUR per once; the lower per-license prices apply only to larger seat purchases.
Con: Its batch-oriented feature breadth may be unnecessary for users who only need an occasional, simple conversion.
