Overview

HiPDF is made by Wondershare, founded in 2003 and headquartered in Shenzhen, China. Alongside its web tools, it offers API access and lists Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, and browser-extension platforms. The free converter works without installation for files up to 20 MB, while paid plans raise the per-file ceiling to 100 MB.

HiPDF says uploaded files are permanently deleted within 60 minutes after processing. It also identifies itself as a PDF Association member and cites ISO 27001 and SSI SECURE certifications. These claims may matter when choosing an online service for document work, though they do not replace an organization’s own security requirements.

Key features

Conversion, OCR, and PDF tools

HiPDF converts files to PDF and PDFs to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, images, HTML, and text. Its broader target list includes DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, EPUB, RTF, and Publisher. OCR can turn scanned PDFs into editable Word documents, and batch conversion is available. That mix is useful for people handling varied or repeated document jobs; the free converter’s 20 MB cap is less suited to larger files.

PDF tools cover editing, merging, compression, splitting, image extraction, page rearrangement, protection, unlocking, redaction, signing, and sharing. A DOC-to-PDF workflow can open files from Dropbox or cloud storage and save converted PDFs there. Paid-plan limits of 100 MB and 2,000 pages per file give routine office documents room to fit, but may rule out unusually large files.

AI and API

AI features include Chat with PDF, translation, proofreading, AI detection, mind maps, AI reading, rewriting, explanations, and question answering. Their usefulness depends on the plan’s allowance: annual Basic includes 50 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 50 AI Detector uses, while Advanced includes 1,000 of each. The monthly AI plan provides 1,000 uses, making it a more focused option for someone who needs AI tools without the full annual package.

HiPDF offers API subscription and prepaid pricing, with custom or high-volume plans by quote. The API subscription costs $28.00 USD per month; the page says the first 200 files per month are free for monthly and annual subscribers. This is the relevant route for integrating PDF processing into a workflow, rather than using only the web interface.

Pricing

HiPDF is freemium, with a free plan, a 7-day trial, and paid plans. Annual web tiers include OCR and batch processing, while AI allowances distinguish the Basic and Advanced plans.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per free	Limited access to most PDF and image tools; converter files up to 20 MB.
Basic	39.95 USD per year	Web access, OCR, batch processing, 100 MB maximum file size, 2,000 pages per file; 50 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 50 AI Detector uses.
Advanced	69.95 USD per year	Basic features plus AI PDF tools; 100 MB maximum file size, 2,000 pages per file, and 1,000 uses each for Chat with PDF/AI Reader and AI Detector.
AI Monthly Plan	3.99 USD per month	Web access and 1,000 uses; automatically renews, cancel anytime.
HiPDF API Subscription	28.00 USD per month	API subscription; custom or high-volume plans by quote.

For a short-term need, Basic 7-Day Access costs 0.95 USD per once and includes 2,000 pages, 100 MB files, unlimited batch processing, and PDF editing and download tools. It automatically renews after 7 days at US$ 39.95 per year. Advanced 7-Day Access costs 1.95 USD per once, adds Chat with PDF, AI Reader, and AI Detector, and automatically renews after 7 days at US$ 69.95 per year. Those renewal terms make these trials a poor fit for anyone who might overlook the switch to annual billing.

Support includes live chat and email responses within 24 hours. The free tier is useful for smaller occasional conversions, but its 20 MB converter limit and limited tool access make it a weak choice for sustained or large-file work.

Platforms

HiPDF lists Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, web, API, and extension access. The paid feature and file limits described above apply to its web plans; the API has separate subscription and quote-based options.

Who it's for

HiPDF is a sensible choice for individuals or teams that regularly convert PDFs, need OCR or batch processing, and value editing and AI tools in one service. Basic is the better fit when OCR and batch jobs matter more than substantial AI use; Advanced fits heavier use of its AI features. Occasional users with small files can start free. Look elsewhere if the 100 MB and 2,000-page caps are too restrictive, or if a trial’s automatic annual renewal is not acceptable.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad conversion targets, OCR, and batch processing make it useful for varied or recurring document work.
Pros: The toolset extends beyond conversion to editing, security, signing, sharing, and PDF-focused AI features.
Pros: Cloud storage workflows and API access support work beyond manual web conversions.
Cons: Free converter files are capped at 20 MB, compared with 100 MB on paid plans.
Cons: Paid files are still limited to 2,000 pages, and AI usage allowances vary substantially by plan.
Cons: Both 7-day access offers automatically renew at annual prices unless canceled.

Alternatives

PDF Candy is worth considering if desktop access matters; its free plan covers web and desktop use, but has page and hourly restrictions, limited file size, and no batch processing.
PDF24 Compare PDF is the simpler free choice when no limits, registration, or time restrictions matter more than HiPDF’s broader paid toolkit.
iLovePDF offers a free start with limited tools and document processing, so consider it if that free tier better matches a modest workload.
LightPDF may suit smaller files: its free web plan caps files at 10 MB and cloud storage at five files for one year.
Smallpdf offers 30+ tools on its free plan and a 7-day free trial; compare those options if its tool access fits your needs.
AvePDF allows files up to 128 MB on its free plan, but limits processing to two operations per six hours and ten files per processing.
PDFgear is a free option with a 100 MB-per-PDF limit for its online editor.
Sejda PDF Editor is another PDF editor option.

Verdict

Choose HiPDF if you want conversion, OCR, batch processing, editing, and PDF-oriented AI tools together in a web service. Its breadth is the main reason to choose it; the main reasons to look elsewhere are the file and page ceilings, limited free conversion size, or annual renewal attached to the short access offers.
