Overview

Happy Scribe supports transcription, subtitling and translation in more than 150 languages. Transcripts can include speaker identification and timestamps, and export to DOCX, TXT, SRT or MP4. AI tools add summaries, action items, custom templates, searchable transcripts and AI Chat.

Optional human services cover proofreading, subtitling, translation and professional transcription, with stated accuracy of 99%+ and delivery from four hours. These are a distinct option for work where automated output is not enough, though the per-minute starting price can add up on longer recordings.

Key features

Meeting connections cover Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar. Combined with collaborative editing, comments, highlights and shared workspaces, these integrations suit teams that want to review meeting records together rather than pass transcript files around. Business and Enterprise add administration features such as roles, permissions, centralized billing, SSO/SAML and user management.

iPhone and Android apps support offline recording. The Mac desktop app is described as coming soon and intended for recording calls without a bot, so it should not be treated as an available desktop option yet. API access and speaker labels broaden its use beyond simple transcript exports.

Happy Scribe is SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant, offers EU data residency and TLS encryption, and says it does not use customer data to train AI models unless the user opts in. Support is available from 05:00 to 23:00 CET.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. It allows unlimited meeting recordings, capped at 45 minutes each, with limited history and a 10-minute AI trial; it also permits 3 AI Chat files per month. That makes it useful for occasional short meetings, but not for retaining a large archive or sustained AI use.

Basic costs 8.50 USD per month with annual billing, saving 50%; monthly billing is $17/month. It includes 120 minutes/month, a 90-minute recording limit, 1 user seat and 1,440 AI minutes per year. This is the entry paid option for an individual with modest monthly volume, but the per-recording cap rules out longer sessions.

Pro costs 19.00 USD per month with annual billing, saving 34%; monthly billing is $29/month. It includes 600 minutes/month, 3 user seats, unlimited recording duration and 7,200 AI minutes per year. It is the more practical fit for longer recordings or small collaborative teams, though its quota still limits overall volume.

Business costs 59.00 USD per month with annual billing, saving 34%; monthly billing is $89/month. It includes 6,000 minutes/month, 5 user seats, 72,000 AI minutes per year, unlimited style guides and unlimited glossaries. The larger allowance and team controls suit heavier use, while Enterprise is the step up for premium support, dedicated account management, SSO/SAML and advanced workspace features, with custom pricing.

Plan credits reset each billing cycle. Users can buy top-ups without a subscription commitment, and topped-up credits remain until used. Human Services cost 2.00 USD per once, priced from $2.00/min. Check both the billing term and seat and minute allowances before choosing a subscription.

Platforms

Happy Scribe is available on Android, iOS, macOS and through an API. The mobile apps support offline recording; the Mac call-recording desktop app is described as coming soon.

Who it's for

Happy Scribe is a strong fit for individuals and teams handling multilingual transcripts, subtitles or translations, especially when speaker labels, timestamps and shared review matter. The free plan can cover short meeting recordings, while Pro and Business better suit longer sessions and group workflows. It is less compelling for users whose work regularly exceeds a plan's monthly minutes, or who need the Mac call-recording app now.

Pros and cons

Pros: Support for more than 150 languages across transcription, subtitling and translation makes it relevant to multilingual work.
Pros: Meeting integrations and shared editing tools support team review, with seats and administrative controls scaling on higher plans.
Pros: Top-ups remain available without a subscription commitment and do not expire until used.
Cons: The free plan limits each meeting recording to 45 minutes, keeps history limited and provides only a 10-minute AI trial.
Cons: Basic has a 90-minute recording cap and just 120 minutes/month, so frequent or longer recordings call for a higher tier.
Cons: The Mac desktop recording app is not yet available, despite macOS being among the platforms.

Alternatives

Consider Simon Says if its pay-as-you-go pricing better fits your workflow. OpenWhispr is an alternative with a free tier that includes 2,000 words/week of transcription and 5 hours of meeting recordings/month. Speechmatics offers a free tier with $100 in credits and API, self-hosted and desktop platform options. mercuryScribe is a free, open-source alternative under the MIT license for personal, academic or commercial use.

Rev may suit users focused on English transcription, with 45 AI transcription and caption minutes/month on its free plan. AssemblyAI is another option for users who want API access and free credits. AudioPod AI offers a free tier with monthly credits for audio-related tools. Pepys is worth considering for a free tier with 60 signup minutes, additional demo minutes and files up to 1 GB.

Verdict

Happy Scribe is best for multilingual individuals and teams that need transcripts, subtitles or translations alongside meeting connections and shared review tools. Its language range, collaboration features and flexible top-ups are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if low free-tier limits or monthly minute quotas do not fit your workload, or if you need Mac call recording immediately.
