Overview

Guusto is employee recognition and rewards software for organizations with a mix of frontline and office staff. It is best suited to HR teams coordinating several recognition programs and reward-delivery routes. Flexible delivery and budget oversight are its strongest points; minimum commitments make the paid tiers a poor fit for smaller budgets.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Vancouver, Guusto supports recognition for milestones, birthdays, peer appreciation, manager awards, nominations and performance, safety or learning incentives. Its programs can reach employees beyond the desk, but buyers should weigh that breadth against the cost floor on annual paid subscriptions.

Key features

Recognition that travels

Rewards can be sent by email or SMS, printed, displayed as QR codes, or routed through a manager for in-person delivery. That range is useful for employers whose staff have uneven access to workplace apps. Recipients can redeem Guusto cards for gift cards, company swag, charity donations or custom rewards, giving programs several reward types without limiting delivery to a digital inbox.

Program controls and reporting

Separate workspaces can have their own budgets and admins, while approval workflows and cost-center pools give HR and finance ways to govern spending. Real-time reporting and taxable-benefit reporting support oversight after awards are sent. Guusto also lists HRIS, single sign-on and collaboration integrations, plus an API for sending recognition and integrating reporting. Named connections include Microsoft Teams, Outlook, SharePoint and UKG Pro; report exports can be scheduled over SFTP.

Security and support

Guusto’s trust materials identify PCI DSS and SOC 2 compliance, alongside audit logging, encryption at rest, backups, access monitoring, data security and multi-factor authentication. It states an average support response time under 10 minutes and a 95% support satisfaction rating, useful assurances for teams that expect operational questions during rollout.

Pricing

Guusto has a free plan and paid options, with a 30-day trial. The headline paid rate starts at $4/user/mo, but the sender and recipient seat charges and minimum contracts determine the actual fit; Essential and Premium are billed annually.

Plan	Price and terms	What it suits
Free	0.00 USD per free. No minimum reward spend; send rewards, mobile app and 100+ merchant options.	A low-commitment way to send rewards. It avoids a reward-spend floor, but its listed inclusions are narrower than the paid plans’ administration features.
Lite	150.00 USD per month; 1 Sender Seat, 250 Recipient Seats, bulk send to unlimited recipients, cancel unclaimed gifts.	A defined small-team setup with one sender and up to 250 recipient seats. Bulk sending can extend beyond those seats, but the one-sender structure may constrain shared administration.
Essential	4.00 USD per month; billed Sender Seat $4.00/mo and Recipient Seat $0.70/mo; $200/mo minimum contract, billed annually.	Teams that need seat-based pricing and can support the $200/mo minimum annual commitment. That floor can outweigh the per-seat rate for smaller programs.
Premium	5.00 USD per month; billed Sender Seat $5.00/mo and Recipient Seat $1.00/mo; $500/mo minimum contract, billed annually.	Larger programs able to justify the $500/mo minimum. Its higher seat rates and contract floor make it harder to justify for a limited recognition rollout.
Enterprise	Custom pricing; talk to Sales. Enterprise-grade recognition, customization, automation and integrations.	Organizations seeking customization, automation or integrations beyond the listed plans, with pricing agreed by quote.

Lite and higher tiers credit unclaimed gifts back in full. That limits the cost of rewards employees never claim, while the free plan’s no-minimum-spend structure is the least demanding option for cautious buyers.

Platforms

Guusto supports Android, iOS and web, and offers an API. Email, SMS, print, QR-code and manager-mediated delivery add options for employees who do not use the app or sit at a computer.

Who it's for

Guusto is a strong fit for HR leaders building recognition programs across frontline and office teams, particularly in healthcare, hospitality, retail, construction, manufacturing and financial services. Its varied delivery methods and budget controls suit employers managing different work settings and cost centers. Organizations with limited spend or only a basic recognition need should compare the free option carefully with the paid plans’ minimum commitments.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple delivery methods can reach employees without relying on a workplace inbox or app.
Pros: Separate budgets, approvals, cost-center pools and real-time reporting help administer recognition spending across teams.
Pros: A free plan has no minimum reward spend, and Lite and higher tiers return unclaimed gifts in full.
Cons: Essential and Premium require $200/mo and $500/mo minimum contracts respectively, billed annually, which can rule them out for smaller programs.
Cons: Lite has one sender seat and 250 recipient seats, a tight structure for organizations that need multiple administrators or a larger named recipient group.

Alternatives

Choose Bonusly if a free plan for up to 8 users, peer recognition guidance, Slack and Teams integrations, and mobile apps are the priority. Its free tier is explicitly capped at eight users, unlike Guusto’s free plan, which is framed around no minimum reward spend.

Assembly is worth comparing for its Empower plan, priced at $3 per user / month (billed yearly), with peer-to-peer recognition, points and budget controls, AI insights and advanced people analytics.

Culture Cloud is another paid option with Android, iOS, web, API and extension platforms.

Consider Mo if quote-based pricing is acceptable; its page gives no published amount or plan limits. Motivosity is also quote-priced, with a custom Celebrating People plan that includes milestone celebration programs, corporate gifting and a global reward marketplace. Nectar Recognize offers quote-based per-employee monthly pricing.

Bucketlist is a paid alternative on web, iOS and Android. ELEV8 has a free plan and supports web, iOS and Android.

Verdict

Guusto is a sound choice for HR teams that need to run varied recognition programs across frontline and office work, especially when delivery flexibility and budget governance matter. Its free plan lowers the barrier to sending rewards, but the paid tiers’ annual minimums are the main reason to look elsewhere if your program is small or cost-sensitive.
