Overview

GIS Cloud is a mapping and field-data platform for teams that build maps, collect location-based information, and share it with colleagues or the public. It suits utilities, infrastructure, and other operations teams that need both desktop mapping and mobile fieldwork. Its strongest case is bringing map editing and offline collection into one set of tools; its separate plans and storage caps call for careful selection.

Key features

Mapping and data sources

Map Editor supports vector and raster formats, layers, basemaps, and drawing points, lines, and polygons. Its connections include WMS, WFS, WMTS, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Excel, CSV, Bing, OpenStreetMap, and Mapbox. That range can help teams bring varied spatial and business data into a mapping workflow. Advanced spatial analysis, web mapping, and dashboard building add scope beyond viewing maps, though Map Editor's organization-level storage limits matter for larger datasets.

Field collection and offline work

Mobile Data Collection provides custom forms for collecting points, lines, and polygons on Android and iOS. Collections can be stored on a device offline and sync automatically when it reconnects, a useful fit for fieldwork beyond reliable coverage. The plan's 10,000-feature vector and 1 GB media storage caps per organization may constrain data-heavy programs.

Sharing, tracking, and integration

Teams can keep maps private, share them with collaborators, or publish them publicly. Map Viewer focuses on private access to shared maps and data, while Map Portal adds a custom domain, branding, and a no-code app builder. Track covers per-asset location, reports, historical playback, geofences, and alerts. QGIS and ArcMap publisher plugins, plus REST and JavaScript APIs, support existing GIS workflows and custom web applications.

AI, security, and deployment

AI Form Fill suggests form values from photos or voice, with review, editing, or reversion before saving. Map Viewer also includes plain-language map questions, and Map Editor includes Ask AI. GIS Cloud says it has been ISO 27001 certified since November 2025, encrypts data in transit, and uses role-based permissions. Data is hosted on AWS in the US by default, with EU and Australia regions and on-premises deployment as options. It says customer data is not used to train models and that Anthropic is contractually prohibited from doing so. The Geocoder is in beta and limited to beta customers, so it is not a dependable general option for geocoding needs.

Pricing

GIS Cloud uses a freemium model, with a free plan, paid plans from $5/mo, and a 14-day trial. The published monthly prices below distinguish the billed-annual plans from Track's per-asset charge.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Publisher plugins	Custom pricing	Publisher for QGIS, Publisher for ArcMap, and symbology preservation.
Track	5.00 USD per month	Per asset; real-time location and reports, historical playback, geofences, and alerts.
Map Viewer	12.00 USD per month, billed annually	Private access to shared maps and data, custom branding, mobile and web app, and plain-language map questions.
Mobile Data Collection	25.00 USD per month, billed annually	Unlimited projects and survey forms, 10,000 vector features and 1 GB media storage per organization, AI Form Fill, and Map Viewer access.
Map Editor	75.00 USD per month, billed annually	200,000 vector features and 1 GB other storage per organization, WFS and WMS access, Ask AI, and Map Viewer access.
Map Portal	79.00 USD per month, billed annually	Custom domain and branding, 50,000 included public map views, and no-code App Builder.
On-premises & Crowdsourcing	Custom pricing	On-demand firewall or on-premises installation, ISO 27001 security review, and a complete crowdsourcing solution.

Track is the lowest-cost route for asset monitoring, but its per-asset basis makes it a different proposition from the mapping and collection plans. Map Viewer is for sharing rather than authoring; Mobile Data Collection adds forms and offline fieldwork; Map Editor is the step up for editing, WFS/WMS access, and larger vector storage. Map Portal is the fit for branded public maps, with a 50,000-view allowance.

Platforms

GIS Cloud supports web, Android, iOS, APIs, and self-hosted deployment. The mobile apps support field collection, while APIs and self-hosting provide options for extending or deploying the platform beyond its cloud service.

Who it's for

The product is aimed at teams managing water and pipeline networks, electric utilities, telecommunications, roadworks, tree inventories and inspections, retail operations, smart cities, natural resources, and public city maps. It is a strong candidate when spatial data collection, map editing, and sharing need to work together. A team looking only for simple forms, or one whose storage needs exceed the plan caps, should compare alternatives before committing. Solution consultants reply to demo, question, or project inquiries within one business day.

Pros and cons

Pro: Offline point, line, and polygon collection syncs automatically on reconnection, supporting fieldwork outside dependable coverage.
Pro: Map Editor connects to a broad range of GIS, database, spreadsheet, and basemap sources.
Pro: QGIS and ArcMap plugins plus REST and JavaScript APIs make it adaptable to established GIS workflows.
Con: Mobile Data Collection and Map Editor have per-organization storage limits that may not suit larger datasets.
Con: Map Viewer, collection, editing, tracking, and public publishing are split across distinct plans, so teams may need more than one subscription for a complete workflow.
Con: Geocoder access is restricted to beta customers.

Alternatives

For form-first work where spatial editing is not central, Jotform has a free Starter plan with 5 forms and 100 monthly submissions. Teams needing standard-use forms, users, surveys, and integrations without per-user fees can consider mWater, whose platform plan is free and described as unlimited. If open-source licensing is a priority, CommCare offers an open-source web platform and Android app. DataScope has a free plan capped at 100 actions per month, 10 users, 3 forms, 5 assets, and one-year storage, which may suit a small, bounded deployment. IndeForms offers a free Basic plan with 100 monthly responses and up to two subdomains. KoboToolbox is another freemium option, with a Starter plan at 21.00 USD per month for private companies, for-profit organizations, and personal use. Monival has a free Community plan with up to 3 forms, 100 monthly submissions, and 5 enumerators, alongside offline mobile collection. For an alternative to evaluate in the GIS category, see QField.

Verdict

Choose GIS Cloud if your team needs a connected GIS workflow for editing maps, collecting spatial data offline, and sharing or publishing results. Its range of GIS sources, mobile capture, and integrations is the main reason to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need uncapped organization storage, a broadly available geocoder, or a simpler form-only tool.
