Overview

Anyone can download tracks without signing up, and the site says downloads are unlimited. The catalog is limited to music uploaded by approved artists and reviewed before approval, a useful quality-control step for creators choosing music for public videos. The company says the music is made by human artists and that it owns the rights to every track.

Free To Use registers its catalog with YouTube Content ID and Meta Rights Manager. That may help protect the catalog, but it also makes the service’s YouTube whitelisting option relevant: subscribers can whitelist channels to help prevent Content ID claims when using music without attribution. For claim assistance, the FAQ directs users to email copyright@freetouse.com; typical removal takes 1–3 days, sometimes up to 7.

Key features

Free social-video use

The Free License covers non-premium tracks in user-generated content on social platforms, provided users add attribution. Qualifying videos can be monetized if the correct attribution is added before the video becomes public or unlisted. This is a practical route for creators publishing monetized social videos, but not for commercial work outside that scope.

Rights and restrictions

Free To Use says it owns the rights to its tracks, but the license still prohibits redistributing the music or using it to train or develop AI or machine-learning models. Those restrictions matter to anyone hoping to republish tracks, bundle them into another product, or use them in model development.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it covers
Free License	Free	Non-premium tracks for social-platform user-generated content; attribution required; commercial use prohibited.
Pro License	50.00 EUR per once	One specific track, one digital product, unlimited commercial content, one account, and no attribution.
Broadcast License	450.00 EUR per once	One specific track for broadcast use, including TV, radio, and film; one account; no attribution.
Commercial Plan	custom pricing	Full catalog, one digital product, unlimited commercial content, up to 10 accounts, and no attribution. Billed €18.99/month billed yearly or €23.99/month billed monthly.
Personal Plan	custom pricing	Full catalog for social-platform user-generated content, one account, and no attribution. Billed €7.99/month billed yearly or €11.99/month billed monthly.

The free option is the clearest fit for creators comfortable crediting the music and staying within social content. The one-time Pro license makes sense when a single track needs commercial use in one digital product; Broadcast is the targeted choice for a single track in TV, radio, or film. The subscription plans trade a single-track license for catalog access, with Commercial extending to unlimited commercial content and up to 10 accounts. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time without a cancellation fee and remain active through the current billing period.

Platforms

Free To Use is available on the web, so it is suited to people selecting and downloading music through a browser rather than looking for a separate mobile or desktop app.

Who it's for

Choose Free To Use if you publish social-platform videos and want unlimited no-sign-up downloads, with attribution acceptable on the free license. It is less suitable when you need commercial rights without upgrading, broadcast clearance, or use beyond the license’s limits.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unlimited free downloads without sign-up reduce friction for creators sourcing tracks.
Pros: Qualifying social videos can be monetized under the free license when attribution is in place before publication.
Pros: One-time licenses cover defined commercial or broadcast use without an ongoing subscription.
Cons: The free license requires attribution and prohibits commercial use, so it will not fit every monetized or business project.
Cons: Pro and Broadcast apply to one specific track, while the subscription plans are needed for full-catalog access.
Cons: Content ID claims may require follow-up; typical removal takes 1–3 days and can take up to 7 days.

Alternatives

Stock Music Libraries is a useful place to compare more services before settling on a catalog.

Pick Soundstripe if Twitch is your focus: its free extension offers Twitch-cleared royalty-free music and curated playlists, and the service also has a free trial.

Choose RouteNote if your goal is music distribution rather than sourcing background tracks; its free plan offers distribution with no upfront fee and keeps 85% of net revenue.

Bensound offers selected free music for online videos with attribution, while its Business All Access plan is an option to consider for broader business use.

Melody Loops may suit users who prefer a free account and credit for free, non-commercial tracks; commercial and monetized projects need an appropriate license.

Sonoton is an alternative for commissioned radio and TV productions: its described free use generally depends on the broadcaster having a GEMA contract and requires usage notification.

Consider TuneTank if three monthly downloads on a free plan meet your needs, or if you want its paid plan’s unlimited music and sound effects.

Uppbeat offers three free downloads for individual use on your own channels, making it an option for creators whose needs fit that cap.

Free Music Archive is another free web option for listening, downloading, and streaming audio and video, with reuse governed by each work’s license.

Verdict

Free To Use is a strong fit for social-content creators who want unlimited downloads without an account and can follow an attribution requirement. Its central trade-off is clear: free use stops short of commercial rights, so anyone making business or broadcast content should choose the license that covers that work or look elsewhere.
