Overview

Photographer-focused templates, full-page layouts, and content blocks give Pixieset a clear purpose: presenting images and related work. Its drag-and-drop Flex Editor includes separate controls for desktop and mobile layouts, and sites resize for tablet and phone screens. Unlimited-bandwidth hosting and automatically renewed free SSL certificates remove two routine hosting concerns.

Blogging and an SEO manager extend the product beyond a static portfolio. AI tools can generate descriptive alt text for images. The combination suits photographers who want to maintain a site themselves, but the Free plan’s five-post limit is restrictive for anyone publishing regularly.

Key features

Portfolio and publishing

The templates and content blocks are built around photographers’ work, not a broad range of site types. Plus and Pro allow unlimited pages, photos, and blog posts, making them better suited to a substantial portfolio than Free, which caps sites at 15 pages, 100 photos, and five posts.

Integrations and safeguards

Plus adds tracking and analytics integrations. A Lightroom Classic plugin supports direct uploads and collection-structure syncing, which can help photographers keep site content aligned with their Lightroom workflow. Pixieset describes technical and administrative safeguards, redundancies, and firewalls, while acknowledging that absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Its Help Center says support staff respond to messages within 24 hours.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Billed Never. It includes 15 pages, 100 photos, five blog posts, unlimited bandwidth, SSL security, and a mobile-optimized website. That is enough room for a modest portfolio, but the photo and post limits are likely to prompt an upgrade as work accumulates.

Plus costs 12.00 USD per month, billed annually or $15/month. It removes the page, photo, and post caps, adds a custom domain and removes the Pixieset banner, and includes tracking and analytics integrations. It is the sensible step up for photographers who need a larger site without Pro’s extra customization tools.

Pro costs 18.00 USD per month, billed annually or $24/month. It includes Plus features, then adds advanced theme customization, custom code, advanced fonts and colors, and AI-generated alt text, page descriptions, and copywriting. Those extras suit photographers who want more control over presentation or help preparing site copy; they are less compelling if the Plus design and publishing options are enough.

Platforms

Pixieset Website is available on Android, iOS, and the web. Its sites resize for tablet and mobile visitors, while the editor provides desktop and mobile layout controls.

Who it's for

Pixieset is a strong fit for photographers building a portfolio that also needs a blog, SEO settings, and a custom domain. The unlimited paid-plan quotas leave room to grow, and the Lightroom Classic plugin is useful for those who organize work there. It is less suitable for someone who needs a large portfolio or frequent blogging at no cost, or who wants advanced customization without paying for Pro.

Pros and cons

Pros: Plus and Pro remove page, photo, and blog-post limits, so a growing site need not be trimmed to fit a quota.
Pros: Unlimited-bandwidth hosting and automatically renewed free SSL are included, alongside mobile-responsive sites.
Pros: Lightroom Classic uploads and collection syncing support a photographer-centered workflow.
Cons: Free allows only 100 photos and five posts, which makes it a poor long-term fit for a growing portfolio or active blog.
Cons: Advanced theme customization, custom code, and AI page descriptions and copywriting require Pro.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, explore Photography Website Builders, Portfolio Website Builders, Photo Proofing Software, and Photo Sharing Software.

LentloSites is another freemium option, with a free plan that includes restaurant features and a 2.5% fee per website sale. Lightfolio may suit photographers looking for unlimited galleries and specified photo and video storage allowances. RebookMedia has a free Member plan centered on a public directory listing and lead inquiries, with no media storage. ShootCal Websites offers a free plan with 10 GB storage and Home and Contact pages, while its Plus plan is 12.00 USD per month with monthly billing and no annual contract. Zarla offers a free plan with 75 AI credits, 10 pages per site, preview-only access, and unlimited lead-capture forms. Avago, EasySite, and FolioHD are also alternatives to consider.

Verdict

Choose Pixieset Website if you are a photographer who wants a portfolio, blog, and hosting in one purpose-built service, especially if you expect to need the unlimited content quotas on Plus or Pro. Its chief drawback is the Free plan’s tight photo and post caps; look elsewhere if you need substantial free capacity or Pro’s customization is not worth the higher price to you.
