Overview

FirstSlate brings intake, proposals, production paperwork, delivery and invoicing into one service. For a producer moving a job from brief to crew call sheet and final payment, that breadth can reduce the need to stitch together separate workflow tools. Clients and crew can work from links without creating accounts or passwords, a practical advantage when collaborators only need occasional access.

Proposals, e-signatures, invoices, call sheets, crew management, the client portal and teleprompter are available on every plan. Free users therefore retain the core workflow, but the limits of five active projects, 20 archived projects and three clients make the plan a better fit for a small workload than a growing roster.

Key features

Proposals and production work

The AI assistant uses Google Gemini to draft proposal content from a project brief. That can provide a starting point, while the producer remains responsible for tailoring the offer. FirstSlate also supports reusable content and client approvals, extending its usefulness beyond initial drafting.

Signed documents receive a permanent tamper-evident record with signer details, timestamp, IP address, browser and a SHA-256 fingerprint. FirstSlate says it stores encrypted daily database backups separately from its primary system. Those safeguards may matter to teams handling signed paperwork, though they do not replace a review of the service’s terms and security practices.

Client payments and integrations

Clients can pay invoices by card or ACH through Stripe, and FirstSlate says it charges no platform fee. Pro includes online invoice payments, so that feature is a reason to upgrade if collecting payment through invoices is central to the workflow.

Pro and Studio workspace owners can connect FirstSlate to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other MCP clients to read data and create drafts. This is a specific integration advantage for users already working with MCP-compatible assistants, rather than a benefit every production team will need.

Pricing

Every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial without a credit card, then reverts to Free unless upgraded. That gives prospective users a way to try the paid workflow without an initial commitment, but access to Pro features during the trial should not be mistaken for an ongoing free allowance.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever	Five active projects, three clients, intake forms, proposals, contracts, invoices and crew call sheets; no credit card required. The broader Free-plan limits are 20 archived projects.
Pro	190.00 USD per year, billed annually; equivalent to $15.83/mo	Unlimited projects and clients, online invoice payments and branding on every client page. Founding pricing is limited to the first 200 producers.
Studio	66.00 USD per year, billed annually; $790/yr	Everything in Pro, three team seats, up to 10 additional seats at $150/yr each and priority support.

Free is the sensible starting point for a solo producer with a few clients, since its workflow tools remain available after the trial. Pro is the relevant step for an individual whose workload exceeds the caps or who wants online invoice payments and branded client pages. Studio adds seats and priority support for a team, but its annual charge is substantially higher; extra seats also add cost. The stated Pro founding price is limited to the first 200 producers, so it should not be treated as an unlimited offer.

Platforms

FirstSlate runs on the web. Its link-based client and crew access avoids requiring those collaborators to open FirstSlate accounts.

Who it's for

FirstSlate is best suited to independent video producers and creative agencies that want client-facing work and production coordination in one place. It is less suitable for someone who needs only proposal drafting, or for a larger client operation that expects to stay on a free plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Intake through invoicing sits in one production workflow, reducing the need to assemble separate tools for each stage.
Pros: Clients and crew can use links without account creation, lowering friction for occasional collaborators.
Pros: The Free plan retains proposals, signatures, invoices, call sheets and other central workflow features after the trial.
Cons: Free caps active projects at five and clients at three, which can quickly constrain a busy producer.
Cons: Paid plans are billed annually, so the listed monthly-equivalent Pro price is not a month-to-month option.
Cons: Studio’s seat allowance is three; teams needing more can add seats, but at an additional annual charge.

Alternatives

For a wider set of proposal-focused options, browse AI Proposal Generators. Choose Effie instead if a free web app with no-card access is the priority. Proposal Expert offers a free web plan with monthly proposal and e-signature quotas, making it a more bounded proposal-specific alternative. Proposar is another web option with a free allowance of three proposals per month and three templates. ProposalGrid has a free plan with five active documents and two AI proposal drafts each month, useful when document and draft quotas suit the workload. ClientPoint is an alternative with a paid Small Business plan that includes scheduling, branded virtual meetings, e-signatures, document sharing and video recording. Handoff is a paid, multi-platform alternative with a free trial. AdvisorPitch is also a paid alternative with a free trial. Ciela AI is a free web alternative.

Verdict

Choose FirstSlate if you produce video or run a creative agency and want client intake, production coordination and billing under one roof, with no-account links for clients and crew. The main reason to look elsewhere is scale or focus: the Free plan’s small client and project limits can force an upgrade, while teams seeking proposal drafting alone may not need its broader workflow.
