Overview

Houzz brings homeowners and home professionals together around renovation and design, with a local directory alongside software for businesses. It is best suited to remodeling and design professionals who want project administration and client leads in the same service. The range of tools is substantial, but the $249 monthly Pro price and online payment fees make the cost worth weighing against the workflow it replaces.

Its directory supports submissions from homeowners and professionals, profile reviews and verified profiles. Founded in 2010, Houzz combines this discovery layer with Houzz Pro’s business tools rather than serving only as a project-management product.

Key features

Houzz Pro’s estimates, invoicing, 3D Floor Planner, online payments, assemblies and CRM cover core stages from planning to client billing. A digital contract builder adds templates, electronic signatures, reminders and activity tracking, helping businesses keep agreement administration within the same workflow. The Web Product Clipper saves products from supplier websites to the Houzz Pro product library through a browser extension, a useful fit for teams organizing project selections.

The mobile app handles projects and leads, estimates, proposals, invoices, schedules, tasks, time and expenses, time clocks and daily logs. Offline access to project data is practical when connectivity fails at a job site. Storage is unlimited for data and features, including photos, videos and documents, so the stated offering has no storage cap to manage.

Integrations include QuickBooks Online, iCloud, Google, Office 365, Exchange, Outlook, Google Meet, 8x8, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoTo Meeting, Google Drive, Gmail and Gusto, as well as Zapier. The Zapier connection only imports leads and projects into Houzz Pro; businesses that need to send Houzz Pro data out through Zapier should look elsewhere. Houzz transmits data over HTTPS, meets PCI-DSS standards for card payments, stores data in AWS and maintains encrypted backups. Users may request a CSV export in privacy settings. Support includes live chat, email, phone, a Help Center, video tutorials, training resources and a professional forum.

Pricing

Houzz uses a freemium model, with a free plan and a 30-day free trial. The Free Plan is free and includes the 3D Floor Planner, estimates and invoicing. It is a useful starting point for professionals who need those tools without a subscription, but it omits the Pro plan’s online payments, assemblies and CRM.

Pro costs 249.00 USD per month, billed at $0/mo for the 30 day free trial, then $249/mo. It adds online payments, assemblies, CRM and phone and live chat support to the free plan’s features. The plan suits businesses that will use those additions; its card processing costs 3.5% and ACH costs 1%, so payment volume affects the total cost beyond the subscription.

The Advertising Package starts at 499.00 USD per month and includes preferred directory placement, lead generation and targeted advertising. It is aimed at businesses prioritizing visibility and lead acquisition, not simply project administration.

Custom pricing applies to a plan with takeoffs, project schedule, selections board, daily logs, budgets, bid management, Google Suite integration, change orders, financial reports, marketing solutions, dedicated account support and unlimited users. That breadth may suit larger or more complex teams, while the lack of a fixed price means it cannot be compared on subscription cost alone.

Platforms

Houzz supports Android, iOS, web and a browser extension. The mobile app’s project and lead tools, combined with offline project-data access, make it relevant for professionals moving between office and job site.

Who it's for

Houzz is a strong fit for local remodeling and design businesses seeking a directory presence plus client, project and billing tools. Smaller firms can begin with estimates, invoicing and floor planning on the free plan; teams needing CRM, online payments or assemblies will need Pro. Businesses chiefly seeking broad contractor project controls, or those for whom recurring software and transaction fees outweigh the value of the directory and workflow, should compare alternatives.

Pros and cons

Pro combines several project functions. Estimates, invoices, floor planning, payments, assemblies and CRM reduce the need to separate these tasks across tools.
Mobile and offline access support field work. The app covers project administration and can access project data without a connection.
Flexible storage and export. Unlimited storage avoids a stated media cap, and users can request a CSV export.
Pro carries a significant recurring cost. At 249.00 USD per month, it is a larger commitment than the free plan, before payment fees.
Zapier is limited to inbound data. It cannot export data from Houzz Pro through that integration.

Alternatives

For construction project management, compare Construction Project Management Software; for a directory-focused search, see Business Directories; and for trade-specific tools, browse Remodeling Contractor Software.

Buildxact is worth considering for its free plan with five complimentary credits, AI estimating, professional proposals and Home Depot material ordering. Fieldwire offers a free Basic plan capped at five users, three projects and 100 sheets, with a Pro plan that includes unlimited projects and sheets at 39.00 USD per month billed annually. Trimble Viewpoint Vista offers cloud-hosted and on-premises deployments with pricing by contacting sales.

BuildBook is another remodeling-software option. Causeway Construction Software, CMiC and HCSS use custom or contact-for-pricing approaches. Oracle Primavera Cloud is another paid option, with listed monthly services including a 12.00 USD Hosted Named User service and a 55.00 USD Hosted Task Management service.

Verdict

Choose Houzz if you run a local remodeling or design business and want homeowner discovery alongside connected project, contract and billing tools. Its directory, field-capable app and broad Pro workflow are the case for it; the $249 monthly Pro charge and payment fees are the reasons to look elsewhere if you need only basic project administration or a lower-cost operation.
