Overview

EQ Zera reads the plain-text log the game writes, rather than accessing game memory, injecting into the game, or automating play. That makes it a focused companion for reviewing combat and session activity, not a tool that plays on the user's behalf.

Its broader appeal is the combination of a damage meter with quest and item tracking, loot history, progression tools, and timers. Players who only need combat totals may find that breadth unnecessary, while those managing several parts of a session can keep them together.

Key features

Combat tracking

The meter reports damage and healing by fight and zone, with individual hits, a timeline, and fight history. That gives players ways to revisit an encounter or compare activity across a zone rather than relying on a live total alone.

Quest, loot, and progression tools

Quest and quest-item tracking works alongside loot history, zone drops, gear upgrades, crafting recipes, and wish lists. XP and AA progress, raid target history, death recaps, and buff and debuff timers add context for players balancing progression with group activity.

Overlays and companion features

Floating overlays put live information alongside play, and sound alerts can flag events. The overlays require windowed or borderless windowed mode, so players committed to exclusive fullscreen give up that part of the experience. Pairing a phone opens a second screen with the fight meter, run tracker, timers, recent events, and character information, which is useful for players who prefer to keep the main display clear.

Integrations, privacy, and updates

EQ Zera can post celebration cards and away alerts to a connected Discord channel, and it fetches item and mob data from the EQ Legends wiki. The site says it has no compiled telemetry endpoint and makes network calls only to that wiki and GitHub for updates. Phone-sharing data is encrypted on the PC before transmission, so the relay service cannot read it.

Downloads are checked against a SHA-512 hash, and releases since version 1.20.1 are code signed; the app rejects updates from another publisher. Bug reports and feature requests can go through a GitHub issue or the in-app feedback option. The source is under the Functional Source License, free for non-commercial use and scheduled to convert to MIT.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. It requires no purchase, account, or sign-in, and has no locked features. There is no free trial because the free plan itself is the offer; no paid plan is described. That makes it a straightforward choice for any EverQuest Legends player who wants the full feature set without a subscription or account requirement.

Platforms

EQ Zera supports web and Windows, but its installer requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Mac and Linux are not supported, although the FAQ mentions users have run it through Wine and CrossOver. The overlay works in windowed and borderless windowed play, not exclusive fullscreen. Those requirements are the main practical reasons to choose another tool.

Who it's for

EQ Zera suits EverQuest Legends players who want one companion for combat, quests, loot, crafting, and character progress, especially those who value fight history and live overlay information. It is a poor fit for players seeking a multi-game meter, native Mac or Linux support, or overlays in exclusive fullscreen.

Pros and cons

Pros: The free plan has no account requirement or feature locks, so players can use the complete toolkit without a purchase.
Pros: Fight and zone breakdowns, individual hits, timelines, and history support more useful review than a damage total alone.
Pros: Quest, loot, crafting, progression, timer, and phone companion tools extend the app beyond combat tracking.
Pros: The site describes specific protections for telemetry, phone-sharing data, and signed updates, which will matter to privacy- and security-conscious users.
Cons: It supports EverQuest Legends only, so it will not serve players looking for a general-purpose meter across games.
Cons: Native support is limited to Windows 10 or 11 on 64-bit systems, excluding Mac and Linux users unless they rely on compatibility software.
Cons: Exclusive-fullscreen players cannot use its overlays.

Alternatives

Elite Insights is a free alternative with Linux, macOS, self-hosted, and Windows support; choose it if broader platform coverage or self-hosting matters more than EQ Zera's EverQuest Legends-specific companion tools. Its MIT-licensed software is provided as-is.
eqdps is free for Linux and Windows, with optional EQLDB uploads; it may suit a player seeking a simpler cross-platform option.
Advanced Combat Tracker is free Windows desktop software, another option for Windows users looking for a combat tracker.
AwowLab Overlay has a free core job with no paid tier required; consider it if you want that overlay-focused option instead.
Combat Metrics is a free ESO addon whose required libraries must be downloaded separately; choose it for ESO rather than EverQuest Legends.
CombatDash is a free Windows option for Creep classes in an unofficial Lord of the Rings Online community plugin.
EQL Meter is a free MIT-licensed app for macOS and Windows with no account or cloud backend; it is a platform alternative for players prioritizing those terms.
PQ Companion is a free Windows 10/11 companion for Project Quarm, rather than EverQuest Legends.

Verdict

Choose EQ Zera if you play EverQuest Legends on Windows and want a free, account-free toolkit that joins detailed combat history with quest, loot, and character tools. Its breadth is the strongest reason to pick it; its single-game focus, Windows requirement, and inability to overlay exclusive fullscreen are equally clear reasons to look elsewhere.
