Overview

POINT is volunteer-management software for organizations coordinating volunteers and the opportunities they serve. It is best suited to nonprofits that want recruitment, scheduling, messaging, and hour tracking in one system. Its free tier covers core coordination, while structured applications and reporting require a paid plan.

Founded in 2013, POINT is headquartered in Powell, Ohio, and runs on Android, iOS, and the web. Its pricing FAQ says it is available to charitable community 501(c)(3) organizations in the U.S. and Ukraine.

Key features

Recruitment and onboarding

Website widgets, a hosted volunteer hub, social-media integrations, and email invitations give organizations several ways to bring volunteers to opportunities. Custom applications, waivers, background checks, progress tracking, and administrator approvals can support a more formal intake process, but application and waiver management are Pro features. That makes Free a better fit for straightforward signups than for organizations with screening or consent workflows.

POINT says Checkr conducts background checks; POINT receives only the check status, not the report or its contents. That separation may matter to organizations mindful of handling sensitive screening data.

Scheduling and coordination

Volunteers can register for shifts and groups, including youth and guest registrations. POINT also organizes volunteer profiles, administrators, programs, groups, cohosts, and documents. Recurring opportunities are part of Pro, so teams coordinating repeated shifts need a paid plan for that capability.

Hours and communications

Hours can be recorded automatically, manually, or through self-check-in kiosks. Free includes time tracking and reporting, while kiosks and custom reports are Pro features; organizations that need those more specialized tools should budget for the upgrade. Messaging includes SMS, email, automated confirmations and reminders, push notifications, and calendar integrations. SMS add-on bundles are included in Pro, so its base price does not mean unlimited SMS is bundled.

Integrations include Kindful, Okta, Checkr, PayPal, Venmo, Givebutter, Donorbox, DonorPerfect, Donately, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn. POINT says it uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards for personal information and does not sell volunteer personal information.

Pricing

POINT has a free plan, paid subscriptions, and a 14-day trial. Free costs 0.00 USD per free and supports unlimited volunteers and admins, signups and scheduling, event, contact and group management, messaging and reminders, time tracking and reporting, website widgets and integrations, and the volunteer portal and mobile app. It is a substantial starting point for organizations coordinating routine opportunities, but does not include application management, program management, kiosks, waiver management, or custom reports.

Pro (annual) costs 99.00 USD per month, billed annually; Pro (monthly) costs 140.00 USD per month, billed monthly. Both add application and program management, check-in kiosks and QR codes, recurring opportunities, waivers, document storage, custom reports, background-check integration, and SMS add-on bundles to Free. The annual plan lowers the monthly rate, but requires annual billing.

Teams (annual) costs 199.00 USD per month, billed annually; Teams (monthly) costs 299.00 USD per month, billed monthly. Both include Pro features plus role-based access controls, admin task management, program segmentation, and branded communication. This is the tier for organizations that need to divide administration across roles or programs; smaller teams may not need its additional controls.

Network has custom pricing and adds multi-organization oversight, cross-organization impact tracking, centralized reporting, network-wide admin communication, and an aggregated opportunity feed. It is aimed at organizations coordinating across multiple member organizations rather than a single nonprofit.

Platforms

POINT supports Android, iOS, and web, giving volunteers and administrators mobile and browser access.

Who it's for

POINT is a strong fit for eligible nonprofits that need to manage volunteer opportunities beyond a basic roster, especially when they want signups, reminders, and hour tracking together. Free suits core coordination; Pro makes more sense when applications, waivers, recurring opportunities, kiosks, or custom reporting are essential. Teams is better for organizations that need role and program controls, while Network serves multi-organization oversight. Organizations outside the U.S. and Ukraine or outside POINT's stated nonprofit definition should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free includes unlimited volunteers and admins, scheduling, messaging, hour tracking, and a volunteer portal, making it capable for core coordination without a subscription.
Pros: Recruitment channels, multiple ways to log hours, and a broad set of listed integrations connect volunteer acquisition and coordination.
Pros: Checkr report contents stay with Checkr; POINT receives only status, according to the company.
Cons: Application and waiver management, kiosks, and custom reports require Pro, which starts at 99.00 USD per month with annual billing.
Cons: Pro's monthly option costs 140.00 USD per month, and SMS is offered through add-on bundles rather than described as unlimited.
Cons: The stated availability is limited to eligible nonprofit accounts in the U.S. and Ukraine.

Verdict

POINT is a compelling choice for eligible nonprofits that want a free foundation for volunteer signups, communications, and time tracking, with a clear upgrade path as coordination needs become more formal. Choose Pro when applications, waivers, or custom reports matter; look elsewhere if you need those capabilities without a substantial monthly subscription or your organization falls outside POINT's stated availability.
