Overview

EmuSync syncs game saves between devices by connecting configured save locations to cloud storage or a local folder. It best suits players who use emulators or non-Steam games across multiple devices, and its free, no-subscription model makes it a practical choice for adding save backup without another paid plan.

Key features

EmuSync supports Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive, as well as local or shared folders. You can configure save locations, have the app detect saves, and choose automatic or manual syncing. That combination gives players flexibility over where saves live and when they sync; those relying on an automatic workflow should still consider that restore is manual.

Local backup and restore add a fallback beyond cloud synchronization. Version history is included, which can help when a save needs recovery, while automatic backup is also part of the free plan. A Decky plugin lets Steam Deck users check sync status without leaving desktop mode for the desktop; Linux installation instructions also cover Steam Deck.

Advanced users can use the local HTTP API for scripts and third-party automation. It requires no authentication and is documented as device-only, not network-accessible, so it is intended for local integrations rather than remote access. The privacy policy says personal information is not collected, stored or transmitted; app data stays locally or with the chosen cloud provider.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per free	Free with no subscription or paywall; automatic backup, cloud synchronization, version history, game detection and manual restore.

There is no subscription or paywall, so the free plan is the whole offer rather than a trial. It includes both cloud sync and backup features, making it suitable for players who want to avoid a recurring cost. Restoring saves is manual, so it is less suited to anyone expecting hands-off recovery.

Platforms

EmuSync supports Linux, Windows and an API. Windows support covers x64 PCs running Windows 10 or Windows 11. The project provides Linux installation instructions for Steam Deck and says it should work on modern Linux devices. The maker cannot currently build and test for Mac and has no plans for Android or iOS, so it is not a fit for those platforms.

The Windows installer is not code signed, and SmartScreen may flag it as a risk. Users should take that notice into account before installing.

Who it's for

Choose EmuSync if you play emulator or non-Steam games across devices and want saves synchronized through a provider you already use, or if you want an extra local backup. Steam Deck users also get a quick status check through the Decky plugin. It is a weaker fit if you need Mac or mobile support, network-accessible API access, or automatic restore.

Pros and cons

Pros: No subscription or paywall, with cloud sync, automatic backup and version history included.
Pros: Works with three named cloud providers and local or shared folders, giving users a choice of storage location.
Pros: Steam Deck status checking and a local API extend its usefulness beyond basic save syncing.
Cons: Restore is manual, which adds a step when recovering a save.
Cons: There is no planned Android or iOS version, and Mac builds are not currently available.
Cons: The unsigned Windows installer may trigger a SmartScreen warning.

Alternatives

Browse Game Save Managers for more options. Pick Checkpoint64 if you need Mac support or want a paid Pro tier; its free plan is limited to 20 MiB per space, one team, three joined friends’ teams and three read-only fans. Consider Game Backup Monitor for an open-source, free option with unlimited games and 7-Zip compression; cloud use requires a provider and sync client.

Game Save Genie is another free option with no subscription that uses your own cloud storage. Hoard is a free alternative. Choose Ludusavi if you want a portable, MIT-licensed executable for Windows, Linux or Mac. OpenSave is free and open source, with no pro tier, ads or telemetry.

Game Save Manager offers a free Windows 64-bit installer under GPL-3.0, while its support download is optional. Gamekeeper may suit Windows users who want cloud storage options including local, FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, SMB/CIFS and S3; its free Multi-Space feature is limited to three per game.

Verdict

EmuSync is a strong fit for emulator and non-Steam players who want free cross-device save syncing, a choice of cloud or folder storage, and local backup in one tool. Its main limitation is platform reach: Mac and mobile users should look elsewhere, as should anyone who needs automatic restore or a network-accessible API.
