Overview

Elementor combines a live drag-and-drop editor with tools for building and managing WordPress websites. It works with self-hosted WordPress.org and WordPress.com, though WordPress.com users need the Business plan. Elementor reports that its platform powers more than 22 million sites and 13% of the web; those figures speak to its reach, not whether its workflow will suit an individual project.

The free plugin includes core editor features and 32 widgets. Elementor also offers a standalone managed-hosting product, while Elementor One packages AI tools with a monthly credit allowance. These are distinct routes into the broader product range, rather than features every editor user needs.

Key features

Visual building and content

The live editor gives users direct visual control over WordPress pages. Theme and popup builders extend that control beyond individual page layouts, while dynamic content can help sites with changing or repeatable information. The library has 10 templates, so users who expect a large ready-made design catalogue may find it limited. Elementor advertises more than 100 design, marketing, and ecommerce widgets across its offering.

Essential includes Dynamic Content but excludes custom fields and post types. That makes it a possible fit for simpler dynamic pages, but a poor match for projects that depend on those structured-content tools. Version 4's Atomic Editor adds Classes, Variables, reusable Components, lighter CSS, and single-div wrappers, giving design systems and repeatable layouts more structure.

AI, ecommerce, and connections

Elementor AI can generate pages, layouts, images, content, and code. Elementor One uses a shared monthly credit system for AI generation, so its credit allowance is relevant for users who expect to rely on those tools regularly. Elementor also supports designing and building WooCommerce stores, making it more suitable for WordPress ecommerce work than a page-only tool.

The builder supports more than 60,000 WordPress repository plugins. Form connections include services such as Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Zapier, Slack, and webhooks, but integration access is plan-gated: plugin subscribers need Advanced or higher, while hosting customers need Business or higher, or Sell+ Pro or higher. MCP connections can connect sites with Claude, Codex, Cursor, and other tools.

Some plans include collaborative notes for team feedback. Enterprise sites receive threat monitoring, vulnerability scans, and performance audits, and the enterprise offer states a 99.99% uptime guarantee. Elementor describes security measures including multifactor authentication, real-time monitoring, encrypted data, and managed penetration tests. It also says it takes steps toward GDPR and CCPA readiness, including data minimization and annual third-party reviews.

Pricing

Elementor is freemium: the free tier provides the core drag-and-drop editor and 32 widgets, with no free trial for paid plans. Paid plan prices are custom pricing, and the displayed paid plans bill annually and renew at the regular rate. A 30-day money-back guarantee provides a defined window to seek a refund.

Essential: For a basic website, with one site and 57 Editor Pro widgets. It includes Dynamic Content but not custom fields or post types, so it suits a straightforward site better than a structured-content project.
Advanced Solo: For a single professional or ecommerce website, with one site. It targets an individual site owner who needs a professional or store-focused build.
Advanced: For professional and ecommerce websites, with three sites. The extra coverage suits owners managing a small group of sites; integration access begins at this tier for plugin subscribers.
Expert: For freelancers who need multiple sites, with 25 sites. Its larger site allowance is aimed at client work rather than a single business site.
One: A toolkit to create, optimize, and manage one site, with 25,000 monthly One credits. The credit pool makes it the relevant option for users who want bundled AI creation tools.
One Agency: An agency plan with unlimited sites and 350,000 monthly One credits, for agencies balancing many sites with substantial AI use.

Elementor Hosting is a separate cloud package combining WordPress, Elementor Pro, Google Cloud, Cloudflare CDN, autoscaling, and security. Buyers choosing it should compare its hosting bundle with their existing hosting arrangement rather than treating it as just another editor tier.

Platforms

Elementor is built for WordPress and is available for self-hosted and web-based use. Editing is desktop-only: users cannot edit on phones or tablets. That is a meaningful constraint for anyone who needs to make site changes away from a computer.

Who it's for

Elementor is a strong fit for WordPress creators who want visual page control, need theme or popup building, or are assembling a WooCommerce store. Freelancers and agencies can choose tiers with broader site allowances, while the free plugin lets a single-site user begin with core tools. It is less suitable for mobile-first editing, WordPress.com users without Business, or projects that need Essential's excluded custom fields and post types.

Law firms can use practice-area pages, lawyer profiles, location pages, and a resource library to organize a service-oriented site. Readers comparing specialist options can also browse Law Firm Website Builders, Dental Website Builders, and Landing Page Builders.

Pros and cons

Pro: A free core editor with 32 widgets offers a real starting point before a paid upgrade.
Pro: Theme, popup, dynamic-content, and WooCommerce tools cover more than page layout alone.
Pro: Site allowances reach 25 for Expert and unlimited for One Agency, which supports multi-client work.
Con: Editing is unavailable on phones and tablets, limiting on-the-go maintenance.
Con: Integration access starts at higher plan tiers, so a user on a lower plan may not get the connections their workflow needs.
Con: Essential's dynamic-content exclusions and the 10-template library narrow its appeal for structured-content sites or users seeking many prebuilt designs.

Alternatives

For other options, compare WordPress page builders or broader website builders. Choose Breakdance if its free plan's unlimited-site use and basic features better match a no-cost multi-site start. Visual Composer is worth considering if its published annual tiers and larger element and template counts better suit a buyer seeking those specific allowances.

SeedProd, Beaver Builder, Zion Builder, GreenShift, Themify Builder, and Pagelayer are other alternatives to compare.

Verdict

Choose Elementor if you want a capable WordPress visual builder with a free entry point, ecommerce tools, and room to scale from one site to agency use. Its plan breadth and creation tools are the case for it; desktop-only editing, tier-gated integrations, and custom pricing are the reasons to look elsewhere if those constraints conflict with your workflow or budget.
