Overview

Education Walkthrough is classroom observation software for principals, instructional coaches and school or district leaders who want a structured way to record visits and follow up on teaching practice. Its strongest case is a school that needs evidence-rich walkthroughs and shared analysis; the free Basic plan is better suited to a small-scale start.

Key features

Structured visits and follow-up

Leaders can start with a 10-minute template based on the Danielson Framework, choose from a template library or build standards-aligned forms in the editor. Custom rubrics make it possible to align observations with local criteria rather than accept a fixed rubric. Photo and video evidence, saved drafts, and customized PDF reports with a digital signature and school logo give observations a more useful record than a checklist alone. Feedback workflows and professional-growth plans support action after the classroom visit.

Analysis and administration

School-wide analytics help leaders visualize observation patterns and identify growth areas, but those capabilities are absent from Basic. Offline work is saved on the device and syncs automatically after reconnection, which helps keep visits moving when connectivity is unreliable. OneRoster v1.1 roster sync works with ClassLink and Clever; Google Single Sign-On and Google Drive report storage are also supported.

The maker describes the architecture as FERPA-first and offers role-based access control, with CSV or Google Drive data export. Its privacy policy says web cookies store session data without tracking user activity or transmitting information to third parties. Live chat and email support, a 24/7 help center, onboarding and customized professional learning provide routes for setup and ongoing assistance.

Pricing

Basic is free and covers one school, five teachers and 10 walkthroughs per month. It has no analytics or collaboration, so the cap and missing team features make it a trial ground rather than a complete option for a school building shared practice around observation data.

Individual costs 200.00 USD per year, billed annually, per user with one maximum. It expands capacity to 20 teachers and unlimited walkthroughs at one school and adds analytics, but still has no collaboration. It suits a single leader who needs more volume and school-level visibility, not a team coordinating feedback.

School costs 400.00 USD per year, billed annually per user. It allows unlimited teachers and walkthroughs at one school and adds analytics, reports, AI Enhance and team collaboration. For a school that needs shared work and room to grow, this is the more complete fit; the annual per-user charge is worth weighing against the fact that it remains scoped to one school.

District has custom pricing, billed annually, with volume discounts available. It supports unlimited schools, teachers and walkthroughs, plus district-wide reporting, insights and team collaboration, making it the relevant tier for multi-school leadership. The School Teams trial lasts 14 days, and up to 25 people can join during the trial without being billed.

Platforms

Education Walkthrough is available on Android, iOS and the web. Mobile availability pairs naturally with classroom visits, while the web option supports leaders working with observation records and reports.

Who it's for

Principals, school leaders and instructional coaches at a single school are the clearest audience, especially when they need structured evidence, analytics or collaborative follow-up. District and regional leaders may find the District tier better aligned with cross-school oversight. A leader observing only a handful of teachers can use Basic, but its monthly quota and lack of analytics and collaboration limit its usefulness as a shared school program.

Pros and cons

Pros

Templates, editable standards-aligned tools and custom rubrics support consistent observations without forcing one rubric on every school.
Photo and video evidence, drafts and branded, signed PDF reports create a fuller record for feedback and growth planning.
Offline saving with automatic sync helps preserve work during visits where connectivity is poor.
School and District tiers include analytics and collaboration, with District extending reporting across schools.

Cons

Basic is capped at five teachers and 10 walkthroughs monthly, and omits analytics and collaboration, limiting its role in a whole-school process.
Individual adds analytics but still excludes collaboration, so teams need the higher School tier.
School is confined to one school; multi-school reporting requires custom-priced District.

Verdict

Education Walkthrough is a strong fit for instructional leaders who need structured classroom visits, evidence-rich records and, on paid tiers, analysis and collaboration. Its main reason to choose is the connection between customizable observation tools and school-level reporting; its main reason to look elsewhere is the cost and tier boundary for shared use, with collaboration reserved for School and cross-school scope for custom-priced District.
