Overview

Edlib brings H5P authoring together with a Hub for storing, managing and finding reusable learning resources. That shared-library approach is more useful to organizations maintaining a collection of learning materials than to someone looking only for a standalone quiz maker. Developed by Edlib AS in Northern Norway, Edlib has been around since 2015.

Key features

Author and reuse H5P content

Edlib supports H5P formats including interactive video, course presentations, flash cards and quizzes. The Hub filters content by type and tags, helping teams find existing resources instead of starting every activity from scratch. Teams includes 40+ H5P content types, unlimited content creation and unlimited usage, a strong fit for organizations producing materials regularly.

Manage sharing, versions and languages

A Creative Commons license selector and private-or-public sharing workflows let teams choose how resources circulate. Versioning and language variants support revisions and translations of the same resource, useful when content needs to evolve without losing its shared identity.

Connect to learning systems

Edlib integrates with learning management systems through LTI, and can send results to the LMS. Its setup guide includes Moodle instructions. The platform also documents integrations with third-party audio, video and image APIs, extending its connections beyond LMS delivery.

Deployment and support

Edlib offers self-hosting as well as web access. Its getting-started guide warns that the Docker Compose setup is for development and may pose a security risk if deployed publicly, so the free edition is not a safe shortcut for teams that cannot manage production deployment. Edlib says it uses encryption and regular security checks, and provides onboarding and ongoing support; support is available at support@edlib.com.

Pricing

Self-hosted open-source

The self-hosted open-source plan costs 0.00 USD per free under GPL 3.0. You can fork, clone, build, deploy and host it yourself without charge. It is the lowest-cost route for teams able to operate their own deployment, but the development-only warning makes deployment expertise a real requirement.

Teams

Teams costs 23.00 USD per month, billed at $23/user/month or $276 per year. It includes 40+ H5P content types, unlimited creation and usage, content versioning, improved H5P library version control and 23 GB of storage. The per-user price means costs rise with team size; the plan's unlimited usage does not remove the stated storage ceiling. A 30-day trial gives prospective customers a chance to assess the paid option.

Enterprise

Enterprise has custom pricing and includes everything in Teams, plus custom integrations, dedicated onboarding, priority support and unlimited storage. It fits organizations needing tailored connections or more storage than Teams provides, but requires contacting Edlib for a quote.

Platforms

Edlib is available on the web and as self-hosted software. The self-hosted route offers control over deployment, but teams should not expose the documented development Docker Compose setup publicly.

Who it's for

Edlib is aimed at schools and businesses providing engaging educational resources through an LMS. It makes the most sense where teams share, update and translate H5P materials, and where LMS result reporting matters. It is less suitable for an individual seeking only a quiz tool or for an organization wanting self-hosting without responsibility for secure deployment.

Pros and cons

Pro: The Hub's filters, versioning and language variants support reuse and maintenance across a shared learning library.
Pro: LTI can send results to an LMS, with Moodle instructions provided for setup.
Pro: The GPL 3.0 self-hosted plan costs 0.00 USD per free, and Teams removes usage and creation limits.
Con: Teams is priced per user and caps storage at 23 GB, which can matter as a team or its resource collection grows.
Con: The Docker Compose setup is for development and may be risky if made public, limiting the appeal of free self-hosting for teams without deployment expertise.

Alternatives

Compare learning content management systems if you want to consider the broader category.

edu-sharing is a free, open-source alternative with Android, iOS, API, web and self-hosted platforms; choose it if that platform mix matters more than Edlib's H5P-specific workflow.
Edu-Suite CMS has a free Starter plan for up to 5 users, with a € 999 implementation fee and a revenue share from 10%; consider it if those entry terms suit your organization.
eXact LCMS offers hosted or on-premises deployment and a free trial; choose it if that deployment choice is a priority.
CloudLCMS uses custom pricing tailored to goals, scale and growth plans; consider it if you want pricing shaped around those needs.
LON-CAPA is a free web and Linux option.
WalkMe is a paid digital adoption platform without a free plan; consider it if you need that kind of platform rather than an H5P learning-content hub.
AContent is a free web-based alternative.
Learninglogics LCMS is a paid web-based alternative.

Verdict

Edlib is a strong fit for schools and businesses that need a shared H5P library connected to an LMS: authoring, reuse, versioning and LTI result delivery work toward the same organizational need. Choose Teams when per-user pricing and 23 GB of storage fit your operation; look elsewhere if you need simple standalone quizzes or cannot manage the security demands of self-hosting.
