Overview

PacketStream is a residential proxy service that routes traffic through household connections and lets users target countries. It suits developers and research teams collecting public web data who need rotating residential exits or temporary session continuity. Its targeting controls are useful, but availability and session continuity are not guaranteed.

The gateway supports HTTPS, SOCKS5, and HTTP, with HTTPS recommended. Country requests use two-letter ISO codes; when no exit is available in the chosen country, the request fails rather than using another location. That is useful for location-specific work, but a poor fit for workflows that must complete without interruption.

Key features

Rotating exits: The gateway selects a residential exit for each new proxy connection, so applications need not maintain proxy lists. This reduces proxy-management work, though the terms do not guarantee a particular exit or success rate.
Sticky sessions: A session ID can retain the same exit for up to 60 minutes. That helps with tasks that need continuity, but a Packeter disconnection ends the session rather than triggering a replacement exit.
Country targeting: Targeting by ISO country code supports localized research and checks. Requests fail if the requested country has no available exit, so users should not treat targeting as a guarantee.
Developer setup: Guides cover cURL, Wget, Python Requests, Node.js, PHP Guzzle, Go, Scrapy, Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium, Firefox, and Chrome. This breadth makes integration practical across common scraping and browser workflows.
Traffic and security: PacketStream says its systems and Packeter devices process traffic in transit. HTTPS destinations retain TLS encryption, while unencrypted HTTP traffic may be readable in transit. Its stated administrative, technical, and physical safeguards do not amount to a guarantee of absolute security.
Support: The team monitors support email around the clock, though response times can vary. Resellers handle their own end-customer support; PacketStream supports the reseller.

Pricing

PacketStream is paid, with a stated starting price of $1.00 USD per month for each of its two plans. Both have minimum purchases that matter more than the headline monthly price.

Residential Proxies — 1.00 USD per month, billed metered at the gateway: The $50 minimum purchase includes sticky sessions up to 60 minutes. This is the relevant option for users buying residential proxy traffic directly; the minimum makes it less suitable for a small one-off requirement.
Reseller API — 1.00 USD per month, billed wholesale bandwidth: The $500 minimum purchase includes 90 days of sub-user daily bandwidth history. It is aimed at resellers, not individual proxy users, and the larger minimum makes it a substantial commitment.

There is no free plan. Users can request trial credits, but support reviews each request and decides whether to approve it and how much credit to grant, so the trial is not assured. The terms also disclaim guarantees for exit, country, response time, success rate, availability, and uninterrupted sessions.

Platforms

PacketStream supports API access and lists Linux, macOS, web, and Windows platforms. Its protocol support includes HTTPS, SOCKS5, and HTTP.

Who it's for

PacketStream is a reasonable fit for teams doing ecommerce price or availability monitoring, market research, travel fare comparison, public web data collection, ad verification, localized search tracking, brand monitoring, localization QA, or website testing. Its country targeting and rotating exits suit geographically varied requests; sticky sessions help when a workflow needs a short-lived consistent exit.

It is less suitable when a particular exit, uninterrupted session, response time, or completion rate is essential. Users handling sensitive traffic should prefer HTTPS destinations over unencrypted HTTP, which may be readable in transit.

Pros and cons

Pro: Rotating residential exits remove the need for applications to maintain proxy lists.
Pro: Country targeting and sessions lasting up to 60 minutes support location-specific tasks that need brief continuity.
Pro: Setup guides cover a broad set of languages, scraping tools, and browsers.
Con: A $50 minimum purchase on the residential plan makes experimentation or low-volume use costly.
Con: Trial credits require approval, and the amount granted is discretionary.
Con: A Packeter disconnection ends a sticky session, and the service does not guarantee availability or a particular exit.

Alternatives

Webshare is worth considering for users who want a free plan: its Free Proxy Server provides 10 proxies and 1 GB bandwidth per month at no cost, and it supports more listed platforms, including Android, iOS, and extensions.

mitmproxy is a free, open-source interactive HTTPS proxy for users seeking that kind of proxy software rather than PacketStream’s paid residential network.

3proxy is a free, open-source option for users who prefer freeware proxy software.

Privoxy is a free alternative for users who want software they can use, copy, modify, or distribute without registration.

Squid suits users who want free, self-hosted proxy software, with third-party commercial support potentially available.

Bright Data Browser API may fit users who prefer a browser API with a free tier of 5K credits and 1 GB monthly, or a pay-as-you-go option billed at $8 per GB.

Dante is a free option for users who need a SOCKS server and client with complete source code.

Decodo SERP Scraping API is an alternative for users looking for a SERP scraping API with a free plan and trial.

Verdict

Choose PacketStream if your work needs country-targeted residential exits, automatic rotation, and the option to retain an exit for up to an hour. The main trade-off is the $50 residential minimum alongside no guarantee of a particular exit or uninterrupted service. If either the purchase threshold or variable continuity is a problem, a free proxy alternative or another service is a better place to start.
