Overview

OpenSlot is an appointment-management workspace for salons, clinics and independent teams that want booking, payments, client conversations and a business website together. It is a strong fit for operators who want core business tools without a subscription charge during launch; the main caveat is that SMS costs extra by usage.

Its scope reaches from client self-booking to team scheduling and website publishing, making it more than a calendar. Businesses that depend heavily on text reminders or waitlist messages should weigh those usage charges before relying on SMS throughout their workflow.

Key features

Booking and calendar

Clients can book at any hour against real-time availability, choose a staff member, pay a deposit, and receive reminders and automatic confirmations. This reduces the need for staff to coordinate each appointment manually while giving clients a way to secure a slot outside business hours. On the team side, drag-and-drop scheduling and conflict detection support calendar changes; SMS waitlist auto-fill can help turn cancellations into appointments, though frequent use adds message costs.

Payments and communication

Payment tools include deposits, refunds, saved payment methods and payment links, with card processing through Stripe. The shared inbox brings SMS, in-app chat and email together, and built-in translation supports more than 40 languages. That combination can help teams keep client conversations in one place, particularly when serving clients who prefer different languages. OpenSlot also lists integrations including Google Calendar, Apple iCal, Outlook, Xero, QuickBooks, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Instagram, Google Reviews, Slack, Zapier, Square Reader, SumUp, WhatsApp and Treatwell.

Website and mobile management

Businesses can publish a mobile-ready site with booking built in, using either a custom domain or a free OpenSlot address. iOS and Android apps support managing bookings, payments and client messages on the go. This makes OpenSlot appealing to operators who want their public-facing booking route connected to the same workspace as daily operations.

OpenSlot says support includes live chat with response times under three minutes, a help centre, video tutorials and onboarding calls. The stated response time is a notable support commitment, though it does not change the separate SMS cost.

Pricing

Business plan

The Business plan costs 0.00 GBP per free. During launch, core business tools are included, with 0% marketplace commission; SMS is billed separately by usage, per message. For a new or small operation seeking booking, messaging and website tools without a recurring core-plan bill, that is a substantial advantage. Businesses using text reminders or waitlist auto-fill often should budget for those messages rather than treating the plan as entirely cost-free.

OpenSlot says a premium plan may be introduced later. There is no paid tier to compare at launch, so the current offer suits teams comfortable with the included core tools and usage-based SMS rather than buyers seeking a choice of fixed-price packages.

Platforms

OpenSlot is available on web, iOS and Android. The mobile apps cover bookings, payments and client messages, while the web workspace and mobile-ready website support the wider business presence. Online booking, staff profiles, custom domains and multi-location support are included capabilities.

Who it's for

OpenSlot is best suited to salons, clinics and independent teams that want to coordinate appointments, client communications, payments and a bookable website in one system. Multi-location support and staff profiles make it relevant beyond a solo operator, while the free core plan lowers the commitment for teams consolidating tools. It is less compelling for a business whose SMS volume is high and whose costs need to stay fixed.

Pros and cons

Pros

Core tools cost 0.00 GBP per free during launch: booking, scheduling and other business functions are included without a core subscription charge.
Booking and calendar tools cover both sides of appointments: clients get real-time availability and staff selection, while teams get conflict detection and drag-and-drop scheduling.
Website, payments and communication share one workspace: custom domains, Stripe-based payments and a multilingual shared inbox extend the product beyond scheduling.
Multi-location support and mobile apps: teams can manage key work on iOS and Android as well as the web.

Cons

SMS is not included in the free price: reminders and waitlist auto-fill that rely on text add per-message costs.
Launch pricing may change in scope: OpenSlot says a premium plan may be introduced later, so the current no-subscription arrangement is not a promise of a permanent tier structure.

Alternatives

Choose Dahree if a free booking website, 24/7 scheduling and basic booking and earnings analytics are the priority; its free plan also includes email confirmations and reminders. Pick Nexaloom if you want a clearly defined free allowance of one staff member and one location with unlimited appointments and email reminders, accepting its 1.85% + 20p transaction fee.

UOVA is the more relevant option for publishing sites with AI-generated content: its free plan includes 250 AI credits per month, up to 35 images per month and unlimited published sites on a UOVA subdomain. Choose FARSET if a booking cap is acceptable on its free tier: it allows 20 confirmed bookings per month, with a £15.00 GBP per month Pro plan for unlimited bookings.

SalonSitePro is a free web option combining a website and online bookings with client forms and follow-ups; Stripe processing fees apply. Zolmi may suit buyers who prefer a paid salon website-builder plan with a stated monthly starting price of 20.00 USD per month; its START plan covers one staff member, charges 3 per extra staff member, limits stock to 10 products and charges SMS from 0.02.

Avantiy and Jiinubi are also alternatives to consider.

Verdict

OpenSlot is a compelling choice for salons, clinics and independent teams that want appointments, payments, messaging and a bookable website under one roof without a core-tools subscription during launch. Its broad workflow and mobile support are the strongest reasons to choose it; the clearest reason to look elsewhere is a need for predictable messaging costs, since SMS is billed separately by usage.
