Overview

Founded in 1998 and based in Excelsior, Minnesota, Dotcom-Monitor covers several monitoring needs in one service: SSL expiry alerts, keyword monitoring and server monitoring. Its range of alert channels—including email, phone, SMS, SNMP, webhooks, WhatsApp, Slack, PagerDuty, Microsoft Teams, AlertOps, Status.io and ServiceNow—makes it a strong fit for teams that need more than inbox notifications.

The main trade-off is that subscription pricing varies with platform, target count and frequency. The entry price is attractive, but readers should compare the configuration they actually need rather than assume every paid account costs the same.

Key features

Monitoring and alerting

The Free plan supports up to 25 targets, checks as often as every five minutes, two monitoring locations and seven days of data retention. That is a useful starting point for small sites or projects, though two locations and short retention limit its value for investigating issues over time or comparing performance across regions.

The Subscription comparison raises the ceiling to as many as 100 targets, checks as often as every minute and 25 monitoring locations. Private agents and API configuration are included, which gives teams more flexibility in how they set up monitoring. Enterprise removes the target cap and adds 30 or more locations, SSO, MFA and 24/7 priority support.

Platform coverage

Dotcom-Monitor supports web, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. The combination serves teams working across desktop and mobile environments, though platform support alone does not establish which monitoring workflows are available on each one.

Pricing

Free

0.00 USD per free, billed monthly. Free includes up to 25 targets, five-minute monitoring frequency, two locations, email alerts and seven-day data retention. It is a sensible way to cover a modest set of targets without a subscription, but the limited locations, slower checks and email-only alerting make it less suited to teams with urgent response needs.

Subscription

13.33 USD per month, billed monthly. The plan comparison allows up to 100 targets, one-minute monitoring frequency and 25 locations, plus private agents and API configuration. Pricing varies by platform, target count and frequency, so the starting price should not be treated as a universal rate. It is the more practical tier for teams that need faster checks or broader geographic coverage.

Enterprise

Custom pricing. Enterprise includes unlimited targets, 30 or more monitoring locations, SSO, MFA and 24/7 priority support. It is the clearest fit for larger operations that need scale and access controls, but its custom pricing means buyers will need a tailored quote.

Platforms

Dotcom-Monitor supports web, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. The service is relevant to organizations that manage monitoring across these environments, rather than teams seeking a narrowly single-platform tool.

Who it's for

Dotcom-Monitor is best for site and infrastructure teams that value multi-location checks and need alerts routed to communication or incident-management tools. The free tier can cover a small operation’s baseline monitoring, while Subscription is better for teams that need minute-level checks, more locations or private agents. Enterprise suits organizations that need unlimited targets, identity controls and round-the-clock priority support.

It is less compelling for buyers who need a predictable paid bill before choosing a target count and frequency, or for small projects that can operate within a simpler free plan and do not need the broader monitoring and alerting mix.

Pros and cons

Pros: The Free plan supports up to 25 targets, giving small teams room to monitor multiple services without paying.
Pros: Subscription offers checks as often as every minute and 25 locations, a meaningful step up for teams tracking time-sensitive or geographically distributed issues.
Pros: Alert routes include phone, SMS, collaboration tools and incident-management services, so teams can connect monitoring to established response channels.
Cons: Free is limited to two locations, five-minute checks and seven-day retention, which constrains both rapid detection and longer-term review.
Cons: Subscription pricing varies by platform, target count and frequency, making the advertised starting price an incomplete guide to the cost of a particular setup.
Cons: Enterprise uses custom pricing, so teams needing its unlimited targets or access controls cannot compare a fixed monthly price upfront.

Verdict

Dotcom-Monitor is a strong choice for teams that need multi-location monitoring and a wide choice of alert destinations, with a free tier broad enough to cover a modest portfolio. Choose it when those capabilities matter more than a fixed, easily predicted subscription cost; look elsewhere if you need a simpler pricing decision or the free tier’s location and retention caps are too restrictive.
