Overview

The platform combines denied-party screening with audit and resolution, OFAC compliance, export classification and automation, and risk management. Its screening covers lists from more than 180 countries, a useful breadth for organizations handling transactions across markets. That scope is strongest when screening is a continuing business process; buyers looking for a narrow classification tool or occasional checks may be paying for more capability than they need.

Deployment is cloud-based, and the product supports web, Android, and iOS. The mobile restricted-party screening solution is designed for mobile devices. The vendor describes encryption, authentication and authorization controls, secure servers, routine monitoring, and intrusion detection; the Compliance Manager Workflow environment is described as using SSAE16 environments and built-in safeguards.

Key features

Screening and workflow

Compliance Manager Workflow centralizes alerts, screening audit history, rescreening management, and match resolution. It records actions by date and user, helping teams track how matches were handled rather than relying on scattered records. Search tuning and allow/block lists provide additional controls over screening operations.

Business-system integration

Integrated screening supports Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, Salesforce, SAP, Infor, Shopify, NetSuite, HubSpot, and custom-built or legacy systems. This breadth can fit organizations that need screening embedded in established processes, although implementation across systems and departments is a larger commitment than standalone checks.

Support and extensions

The vendor offers training, technical support, regulatory product updates, and dedicated customer success support. Its stated goal is to get each user running within a day with minimal training, but that target does not remove the need to plan for integrations and organizational rollout. Optional capabilities include forced labor compliance, sanctioned-party ownership screening, anti-corruption compliance, adverse media searches, and military end-use screening.

Pricing

Visual Compliance is paid software with custom pricing. The pricing page gives a starting budget of a few thousand dollars a year for basic implementations with small screening volumes and one user; a typical customer screening 50,000 entities should budget around $20,000 a year. Volume and implementation therefore matter materially to the cost, and the product is not positioned as a free or low-commitment option.

Standard includes online, batch, and dynamic screening, search tuning, Compliance Manager Workflow, allow/block lists, automated recordkeeping, a seven-year audit trail, customer support, and training. It is the entry point for teams needing managed screening and an audit history, but not the broader integration and AI-enabled screening included above it.

Mid-Market includes everything in Standard, plus integrated screening for ERP, CRM, SCM, legacy, and other business systems, AI-enabled screening, and a dedicated customer success manager. It fits organizations that need screening in operational systems and ongoing account support.

Enterprise includes everything in Mid-Market, with implementation across departments, business units, and geographies, screening integrated into multiple business systems, and single sign on. It is aimed at distributed organizations with broader deployment needs; those requirements also make it the tier most likely to require substantial implementation planning. Standard, Mid-Market, and Enterprise all use custom pricing.

Platforms

The product is cloud-deployed and supports web, Android, and iOS. The mobile screening option is designed for mobile devices, while integrations extend screening into supported business systems.

Who it's for

Descartes describes use across export compliance, supply chain, logistics, finance, IT, legal, sales, procurement, R&D, HR, and visitor management. It is most compelling for organizations that need several of these functions to share screening and resolution workflows. A single-user operation with limited screening can use the basic implementation budget as a guide, but should weigh that against lighter tools if it needs only a few checks.

Pros and cons

Pros: Screening coverage across more than 180 countries supports broad international operations.
Pros: Centralized alerts, rescreening, match resolution, and a seven-year Standard audit trail support ongoing compliance recordkeeping.
Pros: Integrations span major ERP and CRM products as well as custom and legacy systems, making it suitable for embedded screening.
Cons: Custom pricing and budgets reaching around $20,000 a year for a typical 50,000-entity customer make cost a meaningful buying consideration.
Cons: The strongest integration and deployment options sit in higher tiers, so teams with basic needs may not benefit enough to warrant the broader platform.

Alternatives

Trade Management Software is a category to explore when comparing trade-management options beyond this product.

CustomsLogIQ is a better fit for low-volume classification needs or a no-cost starting point: its free plan includes three monthly credits, single and vision classification, and manual one-item entry, then charges $1 per credit.

GetRegNex offers free access with full Pro access and early pricing, making it worth considering for buyers seeking that access model.

Quickcode offers 10 free classifications per month and a Broker Partner Program at 749.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with 500 classifications and unlimited seats. It is a clearer option for readers whose classification volume and seat needs fit those published limits.

e2open Global Trade Management is a paid, web-based alternative with custom pricing.

AEB Customs Management is a paid web and API option with quote-based pricing; individual components can be used separately or combined.

Borderline Genius is another paid option available through web and API.

Centrade is another paid option available through web and API.

Descartes Global EASE uses a modular platform whose modules can be bought independently or combined into an integrated suite, with pricing by demo request.

Verdict

Choose Descartes Visual Compliance if your organization needs broad denied-party coverage, traceable resolution workflows, and screening embedded across teams or business systems. Its main advantage is bringing those capabilities together with substantial integration reach; its main drawback is the custom-priced commitment, which can rise to around $20,000 annually for a typical 50,000-entity workload. For occasional checks or narrowly scoped classification, a more limited alternative is likely the better fit.
