Overview

DataLion combines survey building, research analysis and interactive dashboard sharing in a web-based platform. It suits research teams and agencies that need to turn survey responses and other datasets into reports; sales teams seeking a dedicated forecasting or pipeline tool may be better served elsewhere. Its breadth is a strength, but the free plan is tightly capped and useful sharing and analysis features require paid plans.

Publishing a survey automatically creates a dataset, codebook and live dashboard, linking collection to reporting. DataLion can also bring in SPSS, Excel, CSV, database and API data, schedule imports and combine sources within a project. That makes it a practical choice when survey results need to sit alongside other research data.

The company is based in Munich and was founded in 2014. For broader category options, see our Sales Analytics Software and Market Research Software lists.

Key features

Survey research and analysis

Questionnaires support skip logic and distribution. Analysis tools include crosstabs, significance testing, weighting, regression, ANOVA, MaxDiff, price sensitivity analysis, and sentiment and topic analysis. This range is well suited to structured market and consumer research, but the Free plan excludes crosstabs and AI analysis, limiting its usefulness for teams that need to evaluate the full analytical workflow.

Dashboards, exports and connections

Drag-and-drop dashboard tools include interactive filters, drill-downs and more than 50 chart types. Users can export editable PowerPoint, Google Slides, Excel, PDF, image and CSV files; a Power BI OData feed and AI access through MCP extend how results can be used. The broad output range helps teams move findings into presentations and other workflows, though exports are not part of the Free plan.

Hosting and access

DataLion says its hosting is in Germany in ISO 27001-certified data centers; that certification applies to the data centers and hosting, not to DataLion itself. An Art. 28 GDPR Data Processing Agreement is included. Roles, granular access profiles, optional two-factor authentication and SSO provide access controls, while deployment can be on-premise with Docker or through a dedicated hosted instance. These options may suit organizations with particular hosting or access requirements; SSO and dedicated hosting or self-hosting are Enterprise features.

Pricing

DataLion has a free tier, a 14-day trial and paid plans priced annually, excluding VAT except where the Enterprise minimum is stated. The annual commitment matters for teams comparing these monthly figures with month-to-month subscriptions.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes	Best fit
Free	€0.00 per free, free forever	1 user, 1 project and 100 cases; surveys, AI builder, 75 templates, Excel/CSV/SPSS import and live dashboards. No exports, crosstabs or AI analysis.	One person assessing survey creation and basic dashboards within a small case cap.
Solo	€100.00 per month, billed per month, billed annually, excl. VAT	1 administrator licence, unlimited projects, full analysis, exports, AI analysis, Theme Studio, REST API and Claude/MCP.	A solo analyst who needs the full analysis and export toolkit but not viewer seats.
Starter	€350.00 per month, billed per month, billed annually, excl. VAT	1 administrator and 5 viewers; everything in Solo, live dashboard sharing and the ability to add viewers anytime.	A small team distributing dashboards without needing editor seats.
Pro	€525.00 per month, billed per month, billed annually, excl. VAT	1 admin, 1 editor and 10 viewers; everything in Starter, white label, Conjoint (CBC), BI views and priority support.	Teams that need another editor, branded outputs or the added BI and conjoint features.
Enterprise	From €1,400 per month; minimum fee, annual contract by licence mix, excl. VAT	Tailored licences, dedicated hosting in Germany or self-hosting, SSO, SLA, personal contact, onboarding, training and data consultancy.	Organizations needing customized licences, deployment or service arrangements.

All plans include German-language email and help-center support; Pro and Enterprise add priority support, and Enterprise also includes an SLA and personal contact. The free tier’s single-user, single-project and 100-case ceilings make it a trial space rather than a lasting team workspace. Solo removes the project cap and unlocks analysis and exports, but its single administrator licence does not provide viewer seats; Starter is the first tier built for dashboard sharing.

Platforms

DataLion is available on the web, through an API and as self-hosted software. Its Docker-based on-premise deployment and dedicated hosted-instance option give Enterprise buyers more control over deployment than the standard web offering.

Who it's for

DataLion names market research institutes, in-house research and consumer-insights teams, agencies, HR teams and publishers as audiences. Its survey workflow, specialist analyses and varied dashboard exports make it a strong fit when those teams need collection, analysis and presentation in one platform. Buyers focused chiefly on pipeline analytics, conversion analysis, stage performance or sales forecasting should weigh whether a research-and-dashboard platform is the right center for their workflow.

Pros and cons

Pros: Survey publishing produces a dataset, codebook and live dashboard, reducing the gap between collecting responses and sharing results.
Pros: Imports, scheduled data feeds and multiple-source projects support research that draws on more than survey responses.
Pros: A broad analysis toolkit and more than 50 chart types serve teams doing more than basic reporting.
Pros: Editable presentation exports, Power BI OData and multiple hosting options support different sharing and deployment needs.
Cons: The free plan allows only one user, one project and 100 cases, and omits exports, crosstabs and AI analysis.
Cons: Annual billing and VAT-excluded pricing make the paid plans a larger commitment than the monthly figures alone suggest.
Cons: The €100 Solo plan has one administrator licence; dashboard viewers arrive at Starter, priced at €350.00 per month annually.

Alternatives

For sales teams with fewer than five people seeking pre-built dashboards, MoData offers a free plan with one data integration and any 10 pre-built dashboards; its free plan is also limited, while DataLion centers more on survey creation and research analysis. OptiKratos Email is a more relevant option for email or WhatsApp campaign needs rather than survey research and dashboard analysis. Averisys Sales Performance Intelligence Platform is another freemium sales-performance option.

Wizard AI Forecasts offers a freemium option for buyers comparing forecasting software. Verdonz is another web-based freemium option. Aviso Sales Engagement offers custom proposals and white-glove onboarding for sales engagement needs. Discern Sales Intelligence offers custom API and flat-file integrations. Gong Forecast uses per-user licences and a platform fee based on the number of users supported.

Verdict

Choose DataLion if your research team needs surveys, substantial analysis and shareable dashboards in one platform, with options for imports and controlled deployment. The main reason to look elsewhere is cost and fit: the free tier is too constrained for much team work, sharing starts at Starter, and organizations seeking a dedicated sales forecasting or pipeline tool should compare more specialized options.
