Overview

Founded in 2018 by three-time CFO Christina Ross, Cube connects business data into a governed layer and syncs it into tools finance teams already use. That approach suits organizations with established spreadsheet habits and multiple source systems; teams looking for a standalone planning workspace may not value those integrations as much.

Cube covers budgeting, forecasting, scenario modeling, variance analysis, workforce planning, financial consolidation, and forecast-versus-actuals analysis. The range makes it relevant across recurring planning and review work, rather than limiting it to reporting or budget entry.

Key features

Planning and analysis

Forecasting and scenario modeling help finance teams examine different assumptions, while root-cause variance analysis and drill-down to general ledger transactions support investigating what drove a result. Natural-language queries offer another way to ask questions of the data. These capabilities can make Cube useful for both planning cycles and follow-up analysis, though the platform’s value depends on teams connecting the systems and using the governed data layer consistently.

Integrations and work surfaces

Cube lists connections to NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, Sage Intacct, Snowflake, ADP, QuickBooks, and HubSpot, and says it can build custom connectors to nearly any system or flat file. Teams can work through Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Slack, and Teams. This range favors organizations that want finance workflows to meet colleagues in familiar tools; buyers with a narrow stack may have less need for that reach.

AI, access, and auditability

The Cube MCP Server connects decision-ready data to Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot, and MCP is included in every tier. Role-based access extends across the app, connected spreadsheets, and reports; AI agents inherit the asking user’s permissions. Cube says it logs queries, answers, publishes, and denied actions with the user, permission scope, and sources used. Those controls are relevant for teams handling sensitive financial data, alongside the company’s stated SOC 2 Type II certification, HIPAA compliance, and encryption in transit and at rest on AWS infrastructure.

Pricing

Cube is paid software with custom pricing; buyers need to contact the company to assess plan costs. Bronze, Silver, and Gold each include full Cube Platform Access, custom roles, unlimited dimensions and users, and unlimited dashboards. Those common inclusions make each tier appear suited to teams seeking the core platform without stated seat or dimension caps.

Silver adds Slack and Teams integration and workflow automation. Gold includes the same features, plus Premium Support. Premium Support+ is available as an add-on with any plan. The published tier descriptions do not distinguish Bronze from the higher tiers by seat, dimension, or dashboard limits, so the practical choice turns on the additional integrations, automation, and support. Without published prices, teams cannot compare the tiers on cost before contacting Cube.

Platforms

Cube is available on the web and via API. Its stated Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Slack, and Teams work surfaces may matter more to daily users than the platform labels alone, particularly for teams that want planning work to fit into existing routines.

Who it's for

Cube says it serves finance teams in software, retail, manufacturing, and nonprofits. Its mix of planning capabilities, broad integrations, permission controls, and familiar work surfaces fits organizations coordinating finance data across systems. Smaller teams seeking a published, straightforward price or buyers who do not need the wider planning and integration set should compare alternatives before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad coverage across budgeting, forecasting, workforce planning, consolidation, and variance work gives finance teams one platform for several recurring needs.
Pros: Spreadsheet and presentation integrations, plus Slack and Teams options, support workflows that stay close to tools teams already use.
Pros: Role-based permissions extend to connected work surfaces and AI agents, with activity logging that records sources and permission scope.
Cons: Custom pricing makes it harder to judge affordability or compare tiers without contacting Cube.
Cons: Bronze lacks the Slack and Teams integration and workflow automation included in Silver and Gold; Gold is the only tier described as including Premium Support.

Alternatives

For a different fit, consider Euna Budget, OpenGov Accounts Payable, Vena, ClearGov Budget Cycle, Jedox, Lucanet, Planful, and Solver. Euna Budget’s Enterprise plan is described for large, complex jurisdictions and its Professional plan for smaller ones, making it an option to compare when jurisdiction-specific budgeting is the priority. OpenGov Accounts Payable is a paid web and API product, so it is a narrower alternative to assess when accounts payable is the need. Vena offers web and Windows access, with Professional and Complete plans; compare it if those platform options or its stated plan structure better suit your team. ClearGov Budget Cycle is a paid web product to consider as another budget-cycle option. Jedox offers Business and Professional tiers, while Lucanet offers Basic and Advanced plans; compare their plan structures if you are evaluating those alternatives. Planful tailors its subscription to company size, user count, and selected modules, a relevant comparison for teams seeking that kind of subscription fit. Solver offers Standard User and Contributor User plans, worth comparing if those user categories better match how your team works.

Cube also sits among options in Budgeting Software, Forecasting Software, Management Reporting Software, Nonprofit Budgeting Software, Financial Forecasting Software, and Corporate Performance Management Software.

Verdict

Cube is a strong fit for finance teams that need planning breadth, integrations, and governed access while working in spreadsheets and collaboration tools they already use. The main reason to choose it is the combination of connected planning and permission-aware AI; the main reason to look elsewhere is custom pricing that makes cost comparison difficult before a direct conversation.
