Overview

The product brings together more than 30 interoperable capabilities for real-time visibility and control across global manufacturing operations. Work orders, shop-floor data capture, and dashboards address daily execution, while batch, lot, and serial tracking records product genealogy and history. That combination is particularly useful when teams must trace a unit through production or investigate a process issue.

Deployment can be on premises or on a cloud platform, including in a containerized environment. A packaged AWS-hosted SaaS offer is aimed specifically at semiconductor R&D labs and fabs, with a fixed annual subscription. The maker also identifies a Customer Portal and Community Platform as support resources.

Key features

The pre-integrated Statistical Process Control module monitors process stability and can trigger operational responses, including putting a lot on hold or stopping equipment. This gives quality teams a route from process signals to action, rather than limiting the system to quality records.

Advanced Planning & Scheduling can optimize resource sequences against utilization, setup time, and delivery dates. Connect IoT is the product’s approach to equipment integration. Enterprise Integration, SAP, and MES-to-MES packages and an extensible interface provide ways to connect external systems; the SAP ERP integration is an optional module licensed separately.

The Data & Analytics Framework can integrate data from SQL Server, Oracle, Excel, CSV, XML, and SAP, and supports Power BI reporting. Security measures described by the maker include encryption in transit and at rest, fine-grained access controls, authenticated APIs, and traceable user actions. Detailed audit trails and site-wide security policies are intended to support regulatory and certification needs. Critical Manufacturing says it has been ISO 9001 certified since 2011 and upgraded to the latest version of the standard in 2026.

Pricing

Critical Manufacturing MES is paid software with pricing on request. The maker describes the semiconductor SaaS offer as a fixed annual subscription, but does not give a price. Buyers should request a quote for their deployment and required modules, and account for the separate SAP ERP integration license if needed.

Platforms

The product supports Android, iOS, web, and API access, as well as self-hosted deployment. It can also run on a cloud platform. The infrastructure constraint is important: full MES workloads require SQL Server running on Windows Server. SQL Server for Linux and managed SQL services such as Azure SQL Database and Amazon RDS are not supported, so organizations committed to those database setups should look elsewhere or reassess their infrastructure.

Who it's for

Critical Manufacturing highlights semiconductor, electronics, medical device, and industrial equipment makers, particularly those with complex discrete production. It is a strong candidate for operations that need work order management, lot and serial traceability, shop-floor capture, quality management, real-time dashboards, and ERP integration. Its scheduling, quality controls, and audit capabilities are most relevant where production complexity makes visibility and controlled responses important.

Pros and cons

Pros: Batch, lot, and serialized-unit genealogy gives teams a detailed production history for traceability and investigations.
Pros: Statistical Process Control can initiate actions such as a lot hold or equipment stop, connecting monitoring to shop-floor response.
Pros: Multiple deployment approaches, broad data-source connectivity, and MES-to-MES integration support varied manufacturing environments.
Cons: Full workloads require SQL Server on Windows Server; SQL Server for Linux and managed SQL services are unsupported.
Cons: SAP ERP integration requires a separately licensed optional module.
Cons: Pricing is on request, so buyers cannot compare a published subscription price before engaging with the maker.

Alternatives

For buyers prioritizing a free entry point and unlimited user licensing, Dexciss ERP offers an unlimited free user license, with services charged separately; it is an ERP alternative rather than a like-for-like MES proposition.

GE Vernova Proficy Plant Applications may suit operations seeking a hosted or on-premises mix across process, discrete, and mixed manufacturing. TraceSense is a CMMS alternative with published monthly plans for asset maintenance, work orders, and reporting. FlowSense Process is another paid option for buyers considering process software.

ABB Nsight is a better fit for energy monitoring, power-quality analysis, and energy-system integrations than for manufacturing execution. BatchLine is another option to consider. For recipe management in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical settings, GEA Codex Recipe Manager is the more focused alternative. Buyers comparing the category can also review Manufacturing Execution Systems and Batch Management Software.

Verdict

Choose Critical Manufacturing MES when complex discrete production calls for detailed traceability, actionable process quality controls, scheduling, and integration across operations. Its breadth and deployment flexibility make it a compelling candidate for semiconductor, electronics, medical device, and industrial equipment manufacturers. Look elsewhere if your full workload depends on SQL Server for Linux or a managed SQL service, or if SAP ERP integration must be included without a separate license.
