Overview

ControlHub covers the purchasing journey from request through payment. Custom approval flows and permissions, policy controls and a request catalog give teams ways to govern who can initiate and authorize purchases. Spend visibility and budget tracking help track purchasing against budgets; the more specifically named Budgets Management feature is part of the Full P2P plan.

That breadth makes ControlHub a better match for organizations that want a connected procurement process than for those seeking only a narrow point solution. Its stated focus is mid-size companies. A notable limitation for evaluating activity is that the company dashboard, reports and analytics are available only on paid plans.

Key features

Requests, approvals and purchasing

Custom workflows and permissions can reflect different approval needs for requests and purchases. The Approvals Plan allows unlimited purchasing requests and requester users, but includes five advanced users; each additional advanced user costs $12 per month. That distinction matters when many people need more than requester access.

The Purchasing Plan adds automatic purchase order generation and receiving. For teams that need the process to continue after authorization, that is a meaningful step up from approvals alone. It also includes virtual and physical cards for US-based companies, so card availability is geographically limited.

Invoice checks, spend and integrations

Three-way invoice matching checks whether a bill corresponds to what was requested, approved and received. That links invoice review to the purchasing process instead of treating the bill as a separate step. ControlHub also offers spend visibility and budget tracking, although Budgets Management is specifically included in the Full P2P plan.

Requests and transactions can sync with QuickBooks or NetSuite. Supplier integrations include Amazon, McMaster-Carr, Digi-Key, Uline and Mouser Electronics, a useful set for teams buying from those suppliers. Enterprise SSO using SAML/OIDC is a Full P2P feature.

Pricing

ControlHub has a free plan and a 30-day trial, but its paid plans have stated monthly prices. The published tiers are billed per month:

APPROVALS PLAN — 249.00 USD per month: Unlimited Purchasing Requests, Unlimited Requester Users, five Advanced Users and $12 per additional Advanced User. It suits teams focused on routing and controlling requests, but does not include the Purchasing Plan's automatic purchase order generation, receiving or cards.
PURCHASING PLAN — 599.00 USD per month: Everything in the Approvals Plan, plus virtual and physical cards for US-based companies. Automatic purchase order generation and receiving make this the more relevant tier for teams managing purchasing beyond approval.
FULL P2P or CUSTOM PLAN — custom pricing: Everything in the Purchasing Plan, with Budgets Management and Enterprise SSO using SAML/OIDC among the listed features. Choose it when those additional controls are important enough to justify a custom-priced plan.

The paid-plan restriction on the company dashboard, reports and analytics means the free plan is not a way to assess those capabilities. The published plan details do not give a free-plan cap, so there is no basis to compare its allowance with the paid tiers.

Platforms

ControlHub is available on web, Android and iOS. That mix supports access across desktop and mobile, though it does not by itself establish that every procurement task is available on each platform.

Who it's for

ControlHub makes the most sense for mid-size companies that want purchase requests governed by custom approval rules and carried through ordering, receiving and invoice matching. It is also a stronger fit when accounting sync with QuickBooks or NetSuite, or integration with one of its named suppliers, matters to the purchasing process.

Teams that need only a small vendor directory or basic document processing may be better served by a narrower alternative. Buyers should also account for the advanced-user allowance on the entry paid tier and the paid-only dashboards, reports and analytics before choosing a plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: Requests, approvals, purchase orders, receiving, invoice matching and payments form a connected workflow rather than isolated purchasing tasks.
Pro: Unlimited requester users on the Approvals Plan can accommodate broad request intake, while custom flows and permissions support purchasing controls.
Pro: QuickBooks and NetSuite sync, plus named supplier integrations, can connect purchasing with relevant accounting and buying channels.
Con: The Approvals Plan limits advanced users to five, with an additional $12 per user per month.
Con: Dashboards, reports and analytics require a paid plan, limiting what free users can use for spend oversight.
Con: The card feature is for US-based companies, and the Full P2P plan uses custom pricing.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Procurement Orchestration Software.

Flowie may suit teams whose priority is low-volume document processing: its free plan allows up to 24 documents per month (300 per year), but offers basic processing without workflows and is limited to one entity.
Vendorfi is the more focused choice for core vendor lifecycle management, with a free plan capped at three active vendors and two user seats; its Core plan is 299.99 USD.
VendrNova is another paid, web-based alternative.
Raindrop Systems is a paid option with API and web platforms.
Zycus Contract Management is a paid, web-based alternative.
Coverbase is another paid option.
Genie Bazaar may fit teams managing assets: its Starter plan has custom pricing for up to 1,000 assets and 10 users, with QR code tagging, a mobile app and API access.
Lio is another paid, web-based alternative.

Verdict

Choose ControlHub if your mid-size company needs request approvals connected to purchase orders, receiving and invoice matching, and you can justify the paid tier that unlocks the workflow and reporting you need. Its main advantage is that end-to-end procurement coverage; look elsewhere if you need only basic vendor or document tools, or if the advanced-user limits, US-only card availability or custom Full P2P pricing do not fit.
