Overview

Comodo takes a prevention-first approach: a file that seeks access to critical PC resources but has not established trust is treated as potentially harmful. That emphasis can limit damage from new or unrecognized threats instead of depending solely on an already current definition. It is a sensible fit for a single Windows computer, but not for a mixed-device household that wants one subscription across operating systems.

Key features

Defense+ and Auto Sandbox isolate unknown or suspicious files, restricting what they can do to the host PC. This is the product's clearest practical distinction: questionable software can be contained rather than allowed to run freely. Cloud scanning can identify malicious files when local virus definitions are out of date, and cloud-based behavior analysis is intended to detect zero-day malware. Those layers complement conventional antivirus detection, though they do not change the fact that the product protects Windows PCs only.

Quarantine, scheduled scans and spyware scanning cover routine maintenance. Application control gives users a way to manage what runs, while game mode is aimed at reducing interruptions during play. Parental controls add household management. Secure Shopping places banking and shopping transactions in an isolated virtual environment, making it the most relevant extra for people who regularly use a PC for payments.

Comodo advertises 24/7 technical support, online help, forums and ticket submission. The FAQ also identifies Plus and Pro upgrades with 24-hour live support, TrustConnect and a Virus-Free guarantee. Large workstation networks may be better served by centralized endpoint management than by the free desktop product.

Pricing

The free plan is free for Windows PCs. It is also free for business users, which makes it a practical option for a small operation protecting individual machines, although larger deployments have a stronger case for centralized management.

Advanced Antivirus 1 PC costs 29.99 USD per year, billed 1Year, for one PC. It suits a single-computer owner who wants a paid tier, but adds no capacity for a second machine. Advanced Antivirus 3 PCs costs 34.99 USD per year, billed 1Year, and is the more sensible paid choice for a small household or someone covering three Windows PCs. The listed paid offer starts at $29.99/yr and includes a 30-day trial.

A separate Comodo Antivirus plan is priced at 29.99 USD per year, billed $29.99/yr. The free tier avoids a subscription entirely; paid plans are mainly justified when you want a paid package or need several seats. Check the one-PC limit before choosing the cheaper paid option.

Platforms

Comodo Antivirus supports Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7. There is no listed Android, iOS or macOS edition, so it cannot serve as a unified cross-platform purchase.

Who it's for

Choose Comodo for a Windows user who values containment of unfamiliar files, cloud-assisted detection and an isolated payment environment, or for a business user needing free protection on individual PCs. It is less suitable for families with phones and Macs, organizations that require centrally managed workstation fleets, or anyone needing more than three covered PCs under the stated plans.

Pros and cons

Pro: Defense+ and Auto Sandbox isolate suspicious files, limiting the consequences of running unknown software.
Pro: Cloud scanning and behavior analysis extend detection when definitions are outdated or malware is newly emerging.
Pro: Secure Shopping provides a separate environment for banking and online purchases.
Pro: The free edition is available to business users and includes routine tools such as scheduled scans, quarantine and spyware scanning.
Con: Support is limited to Windows 7, 8 and 10, excluding other household devices.
Con: The 29.99 USD paid entry plan covers only one PC; the three-PC plan costs more.
Con: Large networks may need centralized endpoint management rather than the desktop free edition.

Alternatives

Pick Avast Free Antivirus instead if you need free protection on Android, iOS, macOS and Windows, including a one-device free plan. Avira Free Security is another free, cross-platform option that adds privacy tools and performance optimization. Avira Free Antivirus fits readers who want free multi-platform coverage with 500 MB of VPN data per month.

For cloud-based endpoint and mobile protection across Android, iOS, macOS, web and Windows, consider Trend Micro Worry-Free Services; it is paid and uses contact pricing. Comodo Internet Security is the closer Comodo alternative if you also want firewall features; its Premium plan has no listed price and Pro costs 39.99 USD per year. Bitdefender Total Security suits readers seeking a paid cross-platform package for five devices at 59.99 USD per year for the first year, plus applicable sales tax.

ClamAV is a free, open-source antivirus engine for Windows, macOS, Linux, APIs and self-hosted use. AetherAV is a free Windows, macOS and Linux option with no paid tier or upsells. Browse more choices in Antivirus software.

Verdict

Comodo Antivirus is a strong fit for Windows users who want free protection built around sandboxing, cloud scanning and safer payment sessions. Choose it when isolating suspicious software matters more than broad device coverage. Look elsewhere if you need macOS, mobile or web protection, or centralized control for a large network.
