Overview

HumHub brings communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing into a platform intended for company intranets, knowledge bases, project hubs, and customer or partner communities. Its modular approach can accommodate different needs, but organizations must choose which modules and hosting model fit their setup.

You can run it on your own infrastructure or use managed SaaS hosted on European servers. The maker says its SaaS environment is GDPR-compliant and operates under ISO 27001; with on-premise hosting, organizations keep data in their own environment. That choice makes HumHub relevant to teams with different hosting preferences, but self-hosting means the organization manages its own infrastructure.

Key features

Personalized dashboards, activity streams, configurable notifications, granular permissions, full-text search, file management, and social interactions provide the core workspace. Private spaces, event hosting, and moderation tools also support community use, not just internal updates.

More than 80 optional modules include News, Messenger, Calendar, LDAP, SAML SSO, surveys, and translation tools. Integrations include OnlyOffice, Collabora Online, and a RESTful API. This breadth lets organizations shape the platform around their workflows, though the value depends on selecting and configuring the modules they need.

HumHub is responsive on smartphones, tablets, and desktops, with Android and iOS apps as well as web access.

Pricing

Community Edition is free under the AGPLv3 open-source license and self-hosted on your own servers. It includes access to the Module Marketplace, community support, and free upgrades. It fits organizations prepared to run the software themselves; support comes through the community and GitHub rather than a premium helpdesk.

Professional Edition costs 144.00 EUR per month, billed monthly, for up to 100 users. The displayed indicative price includes SaaS hosting and no onboarding. It adds premium email/helpdesk support, updates and upgrades including security patches, prioritized bug fixing, and long-term maintenance of the latest two major releases. It is the managed option for teams within the user cap that want ongoing support and maintenance.

Enterprise Edition has custom pricing and includes a dedicated hosting cluster, a 99.5% uptime SLA, a dedicated Customer Success Manager, a custom contract, DPA and security review, and multi-site or multi-tenant deployments. It is aimed at organizations needing dedicated service arrangements. Networks with 1,000 or more users require a custom quote.

Platforms

HumHub supports web, Android, iOS, API, and self-hosted deployments. Its responsive interface extends access across desktop, tablet, and smartphone screens, while mobile apps provide dedicated access on both major mobile platforms.

Who it's for

HumHub is a practical fit for small teams, nonprofits, and larger enterprises seeking an intranet, knowledge base, project hub, or customer and partner community. It is especially suited to organizations that value modularity and want a choice between keeping data in their own environment and using European-hosted SaaS. Teams seeking a fully supported managed setup should consider Professional; those needing only a self-managed platform can start with Community Edition.

Pros and cons

Verdict
