Overview

Cloudify models composite services across its own services and other orchestration domains using a YAML/JSON configuration language. Cloudify Manager keeps blueprints and deployments, runs workflows, and presents application topology, metrics, and logs. That combination gives teams a way to coordinate infrastructure and cloud-native resources rather than manage each deployment in isolation.

It supports AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack, as well as edge resources. Policy as code, drift detection, resource import, and both state management modes broaden its infrastructure-management scope. These capabilities make Cloudify a stronger fit for multi-environment orchestration than for teams seeking only a focused Kubernetes platform.

Key features

Service composition and workflows: The DSL can model composite services spanning Cloudify and other orchestration domains, while Manager runs workflows. This suits deployments whose components cross infrastructure boundaries.
Integrations: Official plugins cover Docker, Helm, Kubernetes, and Terraform; documented integrations include AWS, Azure, Ansible, and Jenkins. Cloudify also documents CI/CD connections with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI, giving teams several routes to incorporate orchestration into delivery pipelines.
Visibility: Manager displays topology, metrics, and logs alongside blueprints and deployments, helping operators keep deployment structure and runtime signals in one management environment.
Security controls: Cloudify describes secret storage, encryption of internal communication, multi-tenancy, and role-based access control. Its 6.2 release notes state that it is ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certified. However, the plan comparison places users, groups, tenants, RBAC, directory and SAML support, snapshots, and high availability on SaaS and Premium, not Community.
Deployment choices: Community and Premium can run in a Docker container, VM, or Kubernetes using a Helm chart; SaaS is hosted. Self-hosting supports teams that want to run execution in their own environment, but it makes setup part of the Community and Premium trade-off.

Pricing

Cloudify uses a freemium model. Community is 0.00 USD per free with no time limit. It requires Docker or VM setup, and access to a cloud provider is needed to run workloads. That makes it the clearest way to use Cloudify without a paid plan or trial deadline, but Community does not include the users/groups/tenants, RBAC, AD/Okta/SAML, snapshots, or high availability listed for SaaS and Premium.

Premium trial is 0.00 USD per free for 60 days. It requires Docker setup and cloud-provider access to run workloads. The trial requires a valid activation license, and its functionality stops when that license expires, so it is a time-limited evaluation rather than an indefinite free tier.

Cloudify as a Service trial has custom pricing and requires a trial account request. It is hosted and still requires access to a cloud provider to run workloads. No ongoing SaaS price is given here; teams considering it should account for the request step before evaluating it.

Platforms

Cloudify supports API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows platforms. The CLI installation options include Linux and Mac binaries, a Windows EXE, a Python package, and Docker. The range accommodates varied operating environments, while the Docker, VM, and Kubernetes-with-Helm deployment routes offer flexibility for self-hosted Community and Premium installations.

Who it's for

Cloudify is best suited to organizations transitioning to public cloud or cloud-native architecture that need automation across infrastructure and edge resources. It is particularly relevant when deployments span multiple supported clouds, combine services from different orchestration domains, or need policy and drift-management capabilities. Teams that primarily need a Kubernetes container platform, or want Community to include the higher-tier access controls and availability features, should weigh other options.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multi-cloud and edge orchestration, service composition, and workflows address deployments that cross infrastructure domains.
Pro: Docker, Helm, Kubernetes, Terraform, cloud-provider, and CI/CD integrations give teams several ways to connect Cloudify to existing environments and delivery pipelines.
Pro: Community is free without a time limit, and self-hosted deployment is supported.
Con: Community lacks several controls available on Premium and SaaS, including RBAC, multi-tenancy-related user and group management, snapshots, and high availability.
Con: Community and Premium require local setup, and all three plan options require cloud-provider access to run workloads.
Con: Premium trial use ends when its valid activation license expires, even within the stated 60-day trial period.

Alternatives

Kubermatic Kubernetes Platform is worth considering for readers seeking a Kubernetes platform with a free, open-source Community Edition; Cloudify is the more directly described fit for orchestration across clouds and edge resources.
Control Plane may suit readers who prefer usage-based pricing billed monthly without contracts, minimums, or lock-ins; Cloudify offers a no-time-limit free Community plan instead.
KubeSphere is an alternative for readers looking for an enterprise-grade open-source Kubernetes container platform.
OpenNebula offers a Community Edition with the complete core platform and public open-source releases, making it an option for readers evaluating that approach.
Apache CloudStack is a free, open-source IaaS cloud software option.
Google Config Sync is worth considering for readers already using Google Kubernetes Engine: it is included with GKE, subject to supported cluster versions and fleet registration.
CloudBolt is another freemium option.
Xynvera is another paid option.

Verdict

Choose Cloudify if your organization needs to automate infrastructure and edge resources across clouds, compose services across orchestration domains, and run deployment workflows from one manager. Its no-time-limit Community plan makes it possible to begin without a trial deadline, but teams needing RBAC, tenant management, snapshots, or high availability should look to Premium or SaaS. If your priority is a Kubernetes platform rather than multi-cloud and edge orchestration, consider a more focused alternative.
