Overview

ClearML brings infrastructure control, AI development and GenAI deployment into one platform. Teams can use its servers, self-host it or choose managed service options, including VPC, on-premises, air-gapped and hybrid deployments. The self-hosted version is open source, which gives organizations a route to operate the platform themselves; it also means they need to attend to access controls, including restricting exposed ports and configuring web login authentication.

Key features

The Infrastructure Control Plane manages GPUs across cloud, on-premises and hybrid environments, and supports multi-tenant GPU-as-a-Service. This is a meaningful fit for organizations coordinating shared compute. Teams that only need to track experiments may find the infrastructure layer unnecessary.

The AI Development Center covers developing, training, testing and deploying models, with monitoring, pipelines, a model repository and CI/CD integration. Experiment tracking includes comparisons, artifacts, metrics and plots, plus Git version control integration. Integrations span PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, Optuna, Hydra, TensorBoard, Matplotlib and LangChain. Storage integrations include AWS S3, Azure, Google Storage and S3-compatible services such as MinIO and Backblaze B2. Model registry, pipeline orchestration, model serving and data versioning round out the workflow; this breadth is useful for teams seeking a shared system rather than separate point tools.

The GenAI App Engine deploys LLMs on compute clusters and provides networking, authentication, access control and monitoring. Enterprise access controls include role-based access control and LDAP, while SSO is available on Scale and Enterprise. Those controls make the upper tiers more relevant to organizations with centralized identity requirements.

Pricing

Community costs 0.00 USD per free, requires no credit card and allows teams of up to 3. It includes 100GB free artifact storage, 1GB metric events and 1M API calls/month. That is a useful zero-cost starting point, but the team cap and quotas may constrain active or expanding projects.

Pro costs 15.00 USD per month per user, plus usage. Teams can have up to 10, with 120GB free artifact storage, 1.2GB metric events and 1.2M API calls/month; additional usage is charged separately. It suits teams needing more seats and quota than Community, but the usage charges should be included in budget planning rather than treating the per-user price as the full cost.

Scale uses pay-for-what-you-use pricing in a VPC-only arrangement, for organizations with 8–48 GPUs; pricing is custom. It includes private Slack channel support and an SLA. Enterprise is custom pricing for multiple large projects on a VPC or on-premises cluster, with white-glove support, a custom SLA and professional services. It also offers the role-based access control and LDAP integration that suit organizations with more formal access-management needs.

Platforms

ClearML supports API, Linux, macOS, Windows, web and self-hosted deployments. That range gives teams options across programmatic use, desktop operating systems and managed infrastructure.

Who it's for

Choose ClearML if your team needs experiment workflows, model lifecycle tools and GPU resource management together, particularly across cloud and on-premises environments. It is less compelling for teams seeking only a lightweight tracker or those whose needs fit within a narrower tool and whose workloads do not justify the infrastructure layer.

Pros and cons

Pros: Combines GPU management, experiment tracking, model workflows and LLM deployment, reducing the need to assemble those capabilities from separate systems.
Pros: Supports cloud, on-premises, hybrid and self-hosted operation, including air-gapped environments for organizations that need deployment flexibility.
Cons: Community caps teams at 3 and sets storage, metric-event and API-call limits, which can become restrictive as usage grows.
Cons: Pro adds usage charges beyond its per-user price, while Scale and Enterprise require custom pricing, making costs harder to assess in advance.

Alternatives

Weights & Biases is worth comparing for teams looking for a freemium option with a free tier that includes 5 model seats, 5 GB/mo storage and 1 GB/mo Weave data ingestion. MLRun offers a free open-source plan with community support, making it an option for readers prioritizing a free plan. Paperspace Gradient has a Pro — User plan at 8.00 USD per month with a maximum monthly price and hourly billing, an alternative for readers comparing a lower stated monthly price.

ZenML offers an open-source plan with unlimited executions and projects plus self-hosting, so it may suit teams focused on those terms. Opik makes its core observability and evaluation feature set available as open-source code to run locally. Amazon SageMaker Autopilot uses pay-as-you-go pricing with no minimum fees or upfront commitments, for readers who prefer that billing approach. Databricks Notebooks has a free edition with one serverless workspace and limited compute size and usage. Outerbounds is another freemium alternative.

Verdict

ClearML is a strong fit for AI teams that need development workflows and GPU infrastructure under one platform, with deployment choices ranging from self-hosted to managed. Choose it for that breadth and flexibility; look elsewhere if you only need experiment tracking or require predictable costs without usage-based charges and custom enterprise pricing.
