Overview

Zoho People is an HR platform for organizations that want employee administration alongside common workforce processes. It suits small teams that need records, leave, onboarding, performance management and time tracking in one product, with web and mobile access. The free five-user plan makes it possible to start small, while the five-user minimum on every paid tier narrows its fit for very small organizations that need more capacity.

Key features

The feature set spans employee administration and several recurring HR tasks. Employee records and time-off management cover foundational needs; onboarding, performance management and time tracking extend the product into employee lifecycle and work-hour processes. That breadth can reduce the need to piece together separate tools for these functions, though no workflow depth or usage quotas are established.

Web, iOS and Android support gives employees and HR staff access across browser and mobile platforms. Mobile apps are useful for teams that need access away from a desktop, but platform availability alone does not establish which tasks can be completed in each app.

Pricing

Zoho People uses a freemium model. The Free plan is free and supports up to five users, making it the clearest fit for a very small team evaluating core HR administration. A 30-day trial is also offered. The paid tiers—Essential HR, Professional, Premium and Enterprise—each require at least five users. Paid plans start at 1.25 /user/mo, while each named tier has custom pricing, so organizations will need a quote to compare the tiers and budget for their own team size.

The free plan's five-user cap is a hard ceiling for teams that outgrow it. All paid options start at five users, which may make the transition awkward for organizations with fewer than five employees. The published starting figure gives a point of reference, but the individual tier prices and distinctions are not established, so buyers cannot match a specific tier to a particular need or total cost from the stated prices alone.

Platforms

Zoho People runs on the web and has apps for iOS and Android. This makes it a candidate for organizations whose staff need HR access from both desktops and mobile devices.

Who it's for

Zoho People is a reasonable fit for small organizations that want employee records, leave, onboarding, performance management and time tracking under one HR product. The free plan is suited to teams of up to five users; growing teams can consider paid service, provided they meet its five-user minimum and are prepared to request custom pricing. It is less compelling for a team below that minimum looking for a paid plan, or for buyers who need to compare precise tier costs before contacting the vendor.

Pros and cons

Pros: The free plan accommodates up to five users at no cost, giving small teams a no-cost entry point.
Pros: Records, leave, onboarding, performance management and time tracking cover several core HR needs in one product.
Pros: Web, iOS and Android access supports teams using both computers and mobile devices.
Cons: Every paid tier has a five-user minimum, which can be a poor fit for smaller organizations that need paid capacity.
Cons: The named paid tiers use custom pricing, limiting cost comparison before requesting a quote.

Alternatives

For a free core option with web, API and self-hosted platforms, consider Teammeter; its paid Check-ins plan requires a quote. If the priority is learning software and a quote-based plan fits, Cornerstone Learning is a paid option with Android, iOS, web and API support, but no free trial. Keka is another freemium alternative; its Foundation plan combines core HR, time tracking, payroll and expenses with employee self-service.

For enterprise recruiting, PeopleFluent Recruiting is a paid ATS with pricing on request. Korn Ferry Assess is a paid option with pricing on request. Ramco HCM is a paid alternative with pricing not stated. StaffCircle offers a paid core module with optional add-ons and volume discounts as headcount grows. CatalystOne is another paid alternative.

Verdict

Choose Zoho People if your organization wants several core HR functions in one web and mobile platform and can start within the five-user free plan or meet the paid minimum. Its main advantage is that functional breadth at a no-cost entry point; look elsewhere if a paid plan for fewer than five users or upfront tier-by-tier pricing is essential.
