Overview

The accounting tools cover designated funds, income and expenses, budgets, and financial reports. They sit alongside people and volunteer management, groups, online giving, check-in, event registration, forms, a sermon library, custom reports, and a church mobile app. That breadth makes the platform a practical option for churches hoping to keep financial and routine administrative work together. The key constraint is eligibility: the vendor’s free core platform is for 501(c)(3) organizations, including churches, parachurch organizations, nonprofits, and mission organizations.

The core platform has no fees and no trial. That avoids a time-limited evaluation period, but churches outside the stated eligibility group should not count on the free offer.

Key features

Fund accounting: Track designated funds for missions, building projects, and benevolence. This is useful for churches that need to keep earmarked money distinct from general funds.
Income and expenses: Record tithes, offerings, donations, bills, payroll, and ministry expenses, with budget tracking and expense management. The range suits routine church finances, though payroll service is an extra-cost add-on.
Reporting: Generate financial statements, giving reports, and custom summaries. These give churches several views for financial oversight rather than limiting the platform to transaction records.
Connected giving: Online giving and donations connect to accounting for automatic recordkeeping, reducing the need to treat giving records as a separate workflow.
Broader administration: The core platform includes people and group management, volunteer tools, check-in, event registration and forms, a sermon library, and customer support. Churches seeking accounting alone may find this broader scope unnecessary.

The accounting page calls the product secure, but does not name certifications or compliance standards. The privacy policy says the company uses reasonable security measures and does not guarantee absolute security. Contact-form inquiries typically receive a reply within 1–2 business days.

Pricing

Your Church Plan: 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever. It includes core tools and is available to 501(c)(3) organizations. There is no free trial because the core platform has no fees or trials. This is the natural fit for eligible churches wanting the accounting suite and wider management tools without a subscription charge.

Church Plan: custom pricing. It includes fund accounting, income and expense tracking, financial reporting, and integrated giving. Churches should compare its scope and cost with the free core before choosing it.

Optional services carry separate charges: a church website costs $59/mo, a branded mobile app $149/mo, and a website and branded app bundle $199/mo. Background checks cost $10 per check. Payroll is $25/mo + $9 per employee, while two-way texting is $29/mo. These costs matter for churches that need those services; the free core does not make them free.

Platforms

ChurchSoftware Accounting is available on Android, iOS, and the web, giving churches a choice of mobile and browser access.

Who it's for

The vendor positions the software for organizations ranging from church plants to multi-site megachurches. In practice, its strongest fit is an eligible church that wants accounting tied to giving and a wider set of church-management tools. Churches seeking only accounting, or organizations that do not meet the stated eligibility, should weigh whether the broader platform and add-on costs suit their needs.

Pros and cons

Pros: The eligible core platform is free forever, with no trial deadline to manage.
Pros: Fund tracking, expense recording, budgets, reports, and connected giving address several church accounting needs in one platform.
Pros: People, volunteer, event, and check-in tools extend the platform beyond accounting.
Cons: The free core is restricted to 501(c)(3) organizations.
Cons: Payroll, web presence, branded apps, background checks, and texting add separate charges.
Cons: The security statement does not identify certifications or compliance standards, which may leave organizations needing those specifics without a clear basis for assessment.

Verdict

Choose ChurchSoftware Accounting if your organization qualifies for the free core and wants church-specific fund accounting, connected giving, and administration tools in one platform. Its strongest advantage is the combination of accounting and broader management without a core subscription. Look elsewhere if your organization is not eligible, needs a different platform scope, or wants to avoid the separate charges for optional services.
