Overview

Participants make business decisions in risk-free team exercises and examine the results. The portfolio ranges across strategy, marketing, hospitality and services, banking and finance, and industry-specific simulations including energy, telecom, retail, automotive, and investment management. That breadth gives instructors options across subjects and training goals, but the product is oriented toward facilitated learning rather than an individual business game.

Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Cesim delivers simulations through a browser without software installation or IT assistance. That makes deployment simpler for classes and corporate cohorts. Cesim offers an unlimited trial account and a live-demo walkthrough, useful ways to assess the format before committing.

Key features

Configurable team exercises

Instructors can tailor default cases, and participants can play in their own languages. Each market supports 3–12 teams, with 2–8 members per team; parallel markets are unlimited. This suits courses organized into small groups and allows multiple markets to run at once, though the per-market limits matter when planning larger teams. Cesim recommends 4–12 decision rounds depending on course length and learning objectives, giving instructors a structure to fit an exercise to a program.

Teaching, assessment and integration

The educator dashboard provides live decision data, performance metrics, reports, quizzes, and engagement insights. LMS integration supports enrollment, grading, and content linking, which can reduce administrative work when a course already uses a learning management system. These tools make Cesim more than a simulation library, although the value depends on instructors actively using the data and assessment features.

AI assistance and support

Cesim AI offers an assistant for instructors and a coach for students within the simulation platform. Cesim says the feature does not access, collect, or transfer personally identifiable information about instructors or students to the large language model. Technical and pedagogical assistance is available through in-game support, with phone support for urgent issues. This combination can help instructors manage delivery, but organizations should consider whether built-in AI fits their own learning policies.

Pricing

Cesim uses a paid model with custom pricing. The trial account is unlimited, and a live-demo walkthrough is available, but organizations need to request a quote to assess the cost of a deployment. There are no published seat prices or fixed-price plans to compare, so Cesim is harder to budget against alternatives with stated free or per-run options.

Platforms

Cesim runs on the web. Browser access without installation or IT assistance favors institutions and companies that need participants to join from varied locations without a software rollout.

Who it's for

Cesim is a good fit for colleges, universities, and corporate organizations that want team-based business practice, instructor customization, and assessment in a browser. It is less suitable for buyers who need transparent, fixed pricing or a simulation experience designed primarily for solo use.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad subject coverage lets instructors choose simulations for different courses and industries.
Pros: Case customization, multilingual participation, LMS integration, and educator analytics support structured teaching at scale.
Pros: Unlimited parallel markets and an unlimited trial account give instructors flexibility to explore and organize delivery.
Cons: Custom pricing requires a quote, making advance budget comparisons difficult.
Cons: Each market is capped at 12 teams and 8 members per team, which may require additional markets for larger groups.

Alternatives

Business Simulation Software is a useful starting point for comparing options across the category.

AnyLogic may suit educators or self-learners seeking a free Personal Learning Edition, or buyers needing Linux, macOS, Windows, web, API, or self-hosted platforms.
Forio is worth considering for a free personal plan with unlimited projects, though its Epicenter Personal plan has no end-user authentication or authenticated projects.
The Business School may fit teachers who want a free, no-card demo before considering a MAT licence quoted after a pilot.
OrgSimulator offers free professor access and student access at 50.00 USD per once per simulation run, a clearer per-run cost for courses with defined cohorts.
CompanyGame is another paid option, with web, Android, and iOS platforms.
Capsim Business Simulations is another paid web-based option.
IndustryMasters is another paid web-based option.
Marketplace Simulations may suit courses needing short exercises: its Individual Microsimulation costs 8.00 USD per once, billed at $8 per student, and takes 10–25 minutes, with replay available.

Verdict

Choose Cesim if you need adaptable team simulations supported by instructor tools, LMS integration, and browser-based delivery. Its strongest case is the combination of broad subject coverage and teaching infrastructure; look elsewhere if your decision depends on published pricing or a lower-commitment, fixed-cost option.
