Overview

Carrier First Management is a freight marketplace for carriers, brokers and shippers. It is best suited to small fleets, brokers and shippers that want load discovery or requests tied to bidding, shipment updates and paperwork. Its clearest advantage is a shared workflow from freight matching to delivery; its main trade-off is that only brokers get a free plan.

Key features

The load board lets carriers filter open freight by lane, equipment and rate, with new loads appearing as they post. Carriers can bid, but a broker must approve before a load is booked and assigned. That approval step gives brokers control over commitments, while carriers can weigh lane and rate information before bidding. The site says its quotes use real lane data to provide market-based rates. Listed equipment includes flatbed, dry van, stepdeck and hot shot.

Once a load is booked, participants can follow its status through picked up, in transit and delivered. Invoices generate automatically when a load is marked delivered, linking shipment completion to billing without a separate invoice-creation step. The document vault associates insurance certificates, authority letters and contracts with an account. Brokers can also see each shipper’s credit limit, balance and payment terms, which helps them assess payment exposure alongside freight activity.

Accounts are role-checked, with loads, bids and documents shown according to a user’s role. That separation suits a marketplace serving several kinds of participant, though the site does not describe more detailed access controls. Carrier search, booking workflow and load alerts are also listed. Platform support is described as available 24/7.

Pricing

The Broker Plan is 0.00 USD per free, with unlimited load postings, quote and bid management, carrier communication tools, automated invoicing and document management. It is the strongest fit for brokers and 3PLs that want to manage freight activity without a subscription charge. The free plan’s stated scope is broker-focused, not a free carrier or shipper tier.

The Carrier Plan costs 15.00 USD per month, billed at $15/month. It includes unlimited load board access, instant bidding, lane and rate visibility, status tracking on every load and a digital document vault. Billing starts immediately, with cancellation available anytime from the dashboard. Owner-operators and small fleets get the core discovery and load-management tools, but pay from the outset rather than trialling a free plan.

The Shipper Plan also costs 15.00 USD per month, billed at $15/month, with billing starting immediately and cancellation available anytime from the dashboard. It includes instant freight requests, market-based pricing, real-time shipment tracking, invoice history and document access. That is a focused package for manufacturers and retailers arranging freight; it is less attractive to shippers seeking a free entry tier. The published plan descriptions give no seat or usage caps for the paid plans beyond their stated inclusions.

Platforms

Carrier First is available on Android, iOS and the web. API access is also listed, which may matter to businesses looking to connect freight workflows with other systems.

Who it's for

Owner-operators and small fleets are the clearest carrier audience: they can search by lane, equipment and rate, bid on loads, track status and store documents in one service. Brokers and 3PLs may find the most compelling economics in the free plan, particularly if they need posting, bid management and shipper credit information. Manufacturers and retailers that want freight requests, tracking and invoice history can use the shipper plan, but should account for its immediate monthly charge.

Carrier First is less suited to carriers or shippers whose first requirement is a free plan, or to buyers who need plan limits or seat allowances spelled out before committing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Load discovery, broker-approved bidding, shipment status and delivery-triggered invoicing form a connected workflow rather than isolated listing and tracking tools.
Pro: Brokers can use the core broker plan for 0.00 USD per free, with unlimited load postings and quote and bid management.
Pro: Shipper credit limits, balances and payment terms give brokers useful account context, while role-checked access separates loads, bids and documents by role.
Con: Carrier and shipper plans both begin billing immediately at 15.00 USD per month, leaving those users without a free plan to try first.
Con: The service’s strengths are tied to its marketplace workflow; buyers focused on an entirely different freight-network model may prefer a more specialized alternative.

Alternatives

Load Board Software is a useful starting point for comparing load-board options. BulkLoads may suit users who want a free load board alongside forum access, washout search and multiple users. Direct Freight is worth considering for a free starting tier that caps load searches at three per day and includes truck posting, matching alerts, mileage and maps.

FlatLoads may fit users who want free access to load and truck boards, forums and industry features. FreightLink is an alternative for approved members seeking a free service. LaneRunner is another option for shippers looking for a free load-posting plan. RXO Connect may suit carriers and carrier representatives seeking a free platform for commercial use in the United States, Mexico or Canada. Carrier 360 by J.B. Hunt is an option for approved carriers, though some loads are not eligible for instant booking. Amazon Relay is another free alternative.

Verdict

Carrier First Management is a strong fit for brokers who want posting and bid workflows at no subscription cost, and for carriers or shippers who value a connected marketplace workflow enough to pay 15.00 USD per month. Choose it for the handoff from load discovery or request through approval, tracking and delivery invoicing. Look elsewhere if a free carrier or shipper plan is essential, or if you need a different marketplace model.
