Overview

AdaptiveWork brings demand intake, planning, execution, and financial tracking together, with portfolio reporting for managers overseeing work across teams. That scope can reduce the need to coordinate separate views of delivery and budgets. It is a substantial platform for organizations that need portfolio-level control, rather than a natural fit for teams seeking a narrowly focused task manager.

Key features

Planning and delivery

Demand intake, portfolio management, capacity and resource planning, project timelines, and workflow automation support work from selection through execution. Gantt charts, work breakdown structures, templates, and risk management suit teams that rely on structured project controls. Support for waterfall, agile/scrum, collaborative, and hybrid delivery gives organizations room to accommodate different practices; Jira connections can roll up delivery from external systems when some teams work elsewhere.

Financial oversight and reporting

Budget, time, and expense tracking, utilization analysis, revenue forecasting, and rate cards connect project activity with financial oversight. This combination is especially relevant to professional services organizations managing utilization and revenue alongside delivery. Configurable reports, dashboards, and portfolio roadmaps give managers ways to follow progress, while Slide Publisher can produce branded PowerPoint reports for executive review.

AI and collaboration

Planview Anvi offers project sentiment and risk assessment, conversational project intelligence, summaries, communication and text-editing assistance, and prioritization recommendations. These tools address project review and communication as well as work selection, though the product's broader portfolio scope will matter more to buyers than any single AI feature. Discussions, file sharing, digital proofing, and external-stakeholder collaboration support work that crosses organizational boundaries.

Integrations include Jira, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Salesforce, SharePoint, Box, SAP, Oracle, ServiceNow, Zendesk, and Zapier. Android and iPhone apps support reviewing work, reporting progress, and submitting work items, which helps users handle selected project updates away from the web product. Planview says it independently validates compliance and builds its SaaS products on highly available infrastructure. Its Customer Success Center offers documentation, courses, certification resources, and a ticket-submission option.

Pricing

AdaptiveWork is paid, with custom pricing available by contacting an account executive. There is one named AdaptiveWork plan, with no published seat count or price to compare. Planview lists trials for AgilePlace and ProjectPlace, but not an AdaptiveWork trial on its demos and trials page; buyers should therefore ask about both cost and evaluation access before committing.

With no lower-priced AdaptiveWork tier described, there is no cheaper plan to weigh against reduced functionality. The custom-price approach may suit organizations buying a broad portfolio platform through a sales process, but it is less convenient for smaller teams that need a quick, transparent budget comparison.

Platforms

AdaptiveWork supports web, iOS, Android, and API access. The mobile apps cover reviewing work, reporting progress, and submitting work items; the API gives organizations another integration route alongside the named product connections.

Who it's for

Planview presents AdaptiveWork for project portfolio management, product portfolio management, and professional services automation. It is a strong candidate for organizations coordinating work across projects, delivery methods, and financial measures. Teams needing only simple task tracking, or buyers unwilling to engage sales before understanding price, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Broad portfolio-to-project coverage: Intake, capacity planning, project controls, and portfolio roadmaps support oversight from prioritization through delivery.
Financial management built into delivery: Budget, time, expense, utilization, revenue, and rate-card capabilities suit services organizations linking execution to financial performance.
Flexible delivery and integrations: Multiple work methods and Jira rollups help organizations bring diverse teams into portfolio reporting.
Custom pricing: Buyers cannot compare a published AdaptiveWork price or seat allowance before contacting an account executive.
No AdaptiveWork trial listed on Planview's trial page: Prospective customers should confirm what evaluation access is available before purchase.

Alternatives

Serviceware Performance is worth considering if a free trial is important; it is paid and supports API, self-hosted, and web platforms.

Flexera One IT Asset Management may suit buyers who want a free plan and self-hosted or web deployment. Its paid Flexera One ITAM plan requires a demo for pricing.

MagicOrange is another paid option with API and web platforms.

Omnia Financial Management is a paid alternative with self-hosted and web platforms.

Upland ComSci is a paid web-based alternative.

Yarken is a paid alternative with API, self-hosted, and web platforms; its Forecast plan offers custom pricing and implementation options.

CIO COCKPIT may suit buyers who prioritize a free trial; it also offers a paid five-year contract option and supports API, Linux, self-hosted, web, and Windows platforms.

ISG Inform is a paid web-based alternative.

Verdict

Choose AdaptiveWork if your organization needs one platform for portfolio planning, project delivery, and financial oversight across multiple methods. Its strongest case is the combination of planning, financial management, reporting, and integration breadth. Look elsewhere if transparent pricing or a clearly available product trial is essential before starting a sales conversation.
